I agree with your submissions,bro.
It's not that the Governors in Nigeria are not aware that they are illegally doing the Wrong things, with the Local Govt Funds being highjacked but like so many Other -Illegalities, Unfair and Injustice, they think,it's going to continue for ever.
•The Supreme Court - should take a defiance Position on any Governor in Nigeria that violated this Law, should be removed from Office.
That is the ONLY measure to set a blunt messages to the Governors.
•The Local Governments too, should be Transparent and able to the Grassroots at all times- by rendering the s of Money and Resources at their disposal, promptly and reduce tensions between it and the State governments.

Nigeria is riddled with corruption, it should be brought to an abrupt halt. You can’t hold 36 governors able after their term in office but you want to hold 774 LG chairmen.
Well, best of luck

Everyone is entitle to his opinion, even if the opinion is nonsense. My interpretation of the particular section of the constitution quoted directly opposes the writers interpretation. At the end of the day the interpreter that is able to convince the judges about his interpretation will get the judgment. Perhaps he should have been consulted by the loosers so that he can represent them free of charge at the supreme Court since he is so ionate about only that section of the constitution to win the case.

It's a wonderful judgement by the supreme Court. However, it's an impetus for another do or die contest for local government chairmanships. The governors would do everything humanly possible to influence the local government chairmanships election. They would do all to impose their stooges as chairmen, those idiots they can control and even instruct them to bring some of the money. This is an open avenue and if effectively followed up can make every local government develop. It can provide infrastructure to rural areas and make them more attractive for residence to live in thereby reducing congestion in the Cities. It would also enhance security, accord people to function effectively while also making allowance for provision of employment. It's more of a positive competition with the governors in alleviating the living standard of the citizens. Summarily, it's a good judgement but I have my reservation and that's Nigeria. Nigeria has a thing against developments, against good thing, against anything progressive. However I think, who knows, probably this could be an exception. Hope the Poor will eventually breathe if they can still stay alive for a little while.

That is why there is a proposal to amend the Constitution to scrap SIEC and empower INEC to conduct all local governments election. SIEC is an aberration that needs to go.

Justice Ibori should wait to graduate from law school.
Just imagine the audacity of being a convicted thief being angry that the hole he got through to steal has been plugged. Almost all governors are guilty of abusing local government funds.

It May favour the APC today, tomorrow it might not favour them. That's life.

Tinubu benefited from the local government when he a governor even to an extent creating city councils in Lagos why now is he trying to reduce the power of the governors.

I see state governors ganging up against Tinubu in the future for trying to reduce their power in the state level.

Tinubu has an agenda to stay in power forever

If I had my way into power, I will even ensure we put an end to state government because they have no use to development of the country. If you were very must mature around 18's and 90's when local governments are allow to function, this news would've been a thing of joy to you.

You got it bro.

That judgement makes sense. At least local governments can have their resources and use to develop their areas accordingly.

I think Ibori interpreted according to his understanding of the wordings in English. The struggle for local government full autonomy has been going for ages, with governors refusing to let local governments grow and the citizens enjoy proper developments at the grassroots.

For me, Ibori’s opinion is immaterial going forward.
Local government elections are opportunities for governors to instal their stooges. There is no firm of democracy as the councils are not democratically composed. You have council only belonging to the ruling party in the state. Elections are completely one sided with state electoral commissions conducting what I always term “wayo elections”.

I think NASS should proceed to get INEC to conduct elections at state levels. That way, we can get those we term as our best choices at the local government levels first.

Which inec do u want to conduct local govt elections yakubu inec? cheesy grin

Did the supreme court tell you that they don't know what is in the constitution. The constitution contains a lot of abnormalities. Do we have to wait till when the constitution is amended before we do the right thing. The constitution did not expect the governors to be pilfering with the allocation of the local government, are we now to be looking at the evil deeds of the governors without making a correction.

State and Local Government operate a t . The essence of the State and Local Government t is for the purpose of the state paying 10% of its IGR to the various Local Government in the state.

So with this ruling, does it mean that the 10% will no longer be accruable to the Local government?

This are the conversation we should be xraying

This is actually the part that gets me laughing. Folks like you make it sound like LG chairmen have been itching to develop their areas and it is the govs that has been inhibiting them. What grand delusions!

Most of the LG chairs are former and active political thugs of their godfathers. The few who are not are simply appendages and bootlickers.
Secondly, how many LG chair are actually resident in their LGs as we speak?

Lastly, Tinubu is an hypocrite. When he was gov, he wouldn't let anyone touch his LG funds. He sanctimoniously preached true federalism and devolution of powers. He comes in and he starts taking steps to decimate and whittle down govs and states simply because he wants to control everything even to the smallest. This singular act has repudiated all the talk of federalism from him over the years. Shame on Ariwoola who allowed his court to be used to carry out a coup on the constitution.

You have absolutely no idea of how local government istration works. They are only loyal or becomes political servants to these state governors because of their lack of autonomy. I am 100% sure if you were alive or well mature when local governments were allow to perform their constructional functions, you will not be talking like this.

And contrary to your misinformed believe, Tinubu did not seize LG fund, he was instead created more and finance them from state allocation when OBJ led government refused to release LG fund in the state. Besides, it is quite illogical to say a man who doesn't want local governments istration to work as governor, now turn out to go extra mile to ensure its autonomy.

Have you ever heard of the maxim of he who pays the piper dictates the tune?

What Tinubu is trying to do is to invade the domains of the state govs by using the LGs. He knows like everyone else that the LGs were put under the states by the Constitution. You might not like it but that is how it is. The states are the gateways to the LGs. Expect ALGON, NULGE etc etc to soon release statements thanking Tinubu for this "landmark" move. Expect visits to Aso rock from them soon as well. It is a case of abuja boys vs the govs. If it was not, the NASS would have been the best place to achieve this without the assault on clear provisions of the constitution
So what difference does it make? Tinubu having LGA under his arms and the governors having LGA under their arms?
If your NSSS are effective why didn't stop FG before taking the case to supreme court since there is a provision under the constitution that is against that? And is the supreme Court not aware of such provisions in the constitution?
Mind you Tinubu is not the first president to talk about LGA autonomy, it's been there from OBJ era but for some reasons they didn't do it.

Ibori: a failed system has to be changed. Many Nigerian governors have operated the State local govt t for years, and it has led to areas outside state capital of every state deteriorating, as governors devote the t funds to build what suits them in the state capital but abandon rest of the state to decadence. When you visit some state capitals of Nigeria and other areas outside the state capital, you will not believe that they all belong to the same state. That's wrong. Let the local government councils use their funds to develop their local govt areas.

You are wrong sir. What the SC did was the right thing. State without elected LG chairman should not receive any allocation,It's simple. Any governor that wants local government in his domain to be receiving monthly allocation, they should have elected chairman. QED
