And you think that what Trump is doing does not favour Russia? By stopping US aid to Ukrainian army and demanding repatriation of US involvement?

You think Putin doesn't know the politics Trump is playing in his favour? And that he can't repay same with Iran?

Like I said, Putin will prefer to backstab Iran than to have a war with Ukraine. Which is clearly the easier decision.

Trump and US does not have much option as regard the event in Ukraine because Russia is winning. Whether America force Zelenesky to the diplomatic table or not Kiev will never defeat Russia on the battlefield. They don't have much card.

Tehran has an Independent foreign policy, they cannot be controlled by Moscow. Their bilateral relationship is that of cooperation and partnership unlike how Washington bully their European allies.
Iran is the only dependable and powerful Russian ally in the Middle East which has an Independent thriving military industrial complex. The likes of UAE, Qatar, Saudi, Jordan, Bahrain are no match for Iran even though they maybe richer. Just like you have Israel as America's largest military base in the same region.

Putin will simply tell Trump to go and negotiate with Khamenei. Khamenei has come out to say they're not ready to negotiate with Trump grin grin. In other words, make Trump do him worse. Dem no dey fear am.
Trump only has four years to stay.

Supreme Court actually sentenced a farmer to death for defending himself against Fulani herdsmen..

This country called Nigeria, smh

The prosecutors argued that, having overpowered the man and collected his knife, he should have walked away from the scene.

Self defence is not absolute. You have to show that the attacker left you with absolutely no choice but to kill him.

I have reasons to believe his lawyers blew up the case.

Not sure to what extent lawyers would blow a case to that a clear act of self-defense skips manslaughter, or even the average sentence for murder (25 years) and climbs all the way to a death by hanging that's the maximum allowable sentence for that sort of situation.

While you are right that self defense is not absolute , I believe the farmer has shown enough evidence that the attacker was out to kill him and left him (the farmer ) no choice but to kill him ( the herdsman ) .

I have read through the facts of the case from the moment it was in the lower court and all evidence shows that the farmer has suffered a great miscarriage of justice by our legal system . Everything about this sentence shows what is wrong with our judicial system .

To start with , the herdsman tresed on the farmer’s property and has no legal justification to be on the farm at that time . He further proceeded to attack the farmer with a weapon that was capable of inflicting fatal injury on the farmer . It was reported that the farmer was stabbed severally before he overpowered the herdsman and inflicted a fatal blow on him.

Normally the case should not have even gone on trial but because it happened under Buhari’s government when Fulani herdsmen were treated as the most important set of people than any other person in this country , they took it to trial and charged the victim with murder . This in itself is another grave injustice; the farmer should’ve been charged for manslaughter if he must be charged but they deliberately charged him for murder .

You suggested the farmer’s defense team may have bungled the case but that is actually not the case . The defense team right from the lower court consistently pointed it out that the trial judge’s reasoning has been illogical from the start and inconsistent with the universal interpretation of self-defense . It is illogical for the trial judge to expect a farmer who has been stabbed by his assailant to just walk away after he was able to overpower his assailant . What if he wanted to walk away and the attacker picked up any object like stone , a log of wood , etc to end him from behind ?

I think there should be a serious uproar about this case and hopefully the case can be reviewed . If not , this case will leave a very bad precedent and will embolden more criminals to get justice against their victims

According to our criminal code, for self defence to fly, these three ingredients must be satisfied

1. That the victim was attacking or about to attack the defendant in a manner that grievous hurt and or death was possible, and he had to defend himself

2. That the self-defence was instantaneous and
contemporaneous with threatened attack

3. That the mode of defence was not greater or
disproportionate with the threatened attack

While this case clearly satisfies the first two, the judges were not convinced it satisfies the third.

If a man stabs you on the leg, you find a way to overpower him, collect the knife and stab him in the the neck with intent to kill, I don't think your defence can be said to be in proportion with the attack.

I think they relied too much on the self defence angle.

I believe there are other loopholes they could have tried to exploit.

The case satusfies all 3 elements u listed up there .

The farmer was stabbed with a knife and he stabbed the herdsman back with the same knife . His self defence was not in any way disproportionate.

If the herdsmen had hit the farmer with a stick
And the farmer retaliate with a knife stab u could’ve had a point on the self defense method being disproportionate.

You are making the same mistake the trial judge made by misinterpreting the principle of self defence .

Why do u think there’s an uproar to the extent that the American human rights activist had to appear on Arise TV last week? It’s because the judgement was totally illogical . If person carry knife wan end me and I overpowered him and ended him, the law is not supposed to punish me for that considering the assailant even treses on private property .

Do u know how many times home owners in America have shot at burglars fatally and have to walk simply because they acted in self defense ?

The law doesn’t sit down and start thinking maybe the herdsmen intended to stab u in the leg and not the chest . That’s not how the law works and the defence team knows that , which is the reason they pointed out at the illogical conclusion of trial judge .

There was also the issue of the judge not giving judgement within the stipulated period as per the constitution . There’s a lot off about this case .

NIGERIA UPDATE: Onwards to the future

As a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), I have fond memories of working with other compatriots to negotiate the merger of political parties that created the APC. It had been my hope since 2013 that my personal values and that of the APC will continue to align up to the time I choose to retire from politics.

Developments in the last two years confirm that there is no desire on the part of those who currently control and run the APC to acknowledge, much less address, the unhealthy situation of the party.

On my part, I have raised concerns in private and, more recently, in public regarding the capricious trajectory of the party. Therefore, at this point in my political journey, I have come to the conclusion that I must seek another political platform for the pursuit of the progressive values I cherish.

Founders rightly feel attached towards institutions they helped create, but one must be pragmatic enough to it when a divergence appears unbridgeable. I have diligently served the APC and made my contributions to its viability as a political platform, but I recognize that the party has since strayed and left me stuck in the vision of its well-meaning founding fathers and mothers.

As a loyal party man, I worked to help secure the APC’s election victories in 2015, 2019 and 2023. I was one of the many governors elected on the party’s platform in 2015 and 2019, that stood for certain democratic and progressive principles to advance nation-building. My eight-year tenure in Kaduna State was devoted to implementing progressive policies to advance human development in education and healthcare, as well as expand infrastructure, promote equality of opportunity, create jobs and attract investments. These records count for little in the current APC that has castrated its organs and treated its hip with contempt in the last two years. I find this no longer acceptable.

Today, 10th March 2025, I have submitted a letter reg my hip of the APC to my ward in Kaduna, effective immediately. Prior to this step, I had concluded consultations with my mentors, colleagues and loyalists across the country about the future. I have now decided to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and adopt it as the platform for our future political engagements and activities.

Without prejudice to this decision, as a member of the SDP, I will focus on engaging with and persuading other opposition leaders and parties to us and congregate under a unified democratic platform to challenge the APC in all elections and bye-elections between now and 2027 by the Grace of God. I therefore call on all our ers and other persons concerned about our country’s future to us in the SDP in the journey towards making Nigeria flourish as a beacon of pride for Africans and the Black Race.

Thank you and God Bless the Social Democratic Party.
God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

I think the meat of the matter is given the peculiarities of his situation, why should the accused be getting a death sentence, and not manslaughter, or the standard 25 years for murder if they choose to go that route.

The foundational guy is a stupid guy that thinks anybody that challenges his point of view is either obidient or IPOB. I don’t take his opinions serious at all, he’s always biased in his takes . You should have seen how he was hyperventilating during the Afe Babalola-Dele Farotimi saga.

As for Timi Agbaje’s example , he’s comparing apples to oranges . He’s using the example of a robber being overpowered and being shot at . In the farmer’s case , he was actually stabbed by the herdsman before he overpowered him and stabbed him in return .

How can you logically say someone who stabbed me and was about to kill me , I don’t have a right to defend myself by stabbing him in return ? The law they claim to be lawyers under is not illogical at all. They should stop making it so .

Not all lawyers are actually smart like they claim to be , hope u know that ?

I wanted to say this.

The two scenarios are different. The herdsman was the person who stabbed the farmer. How I go collect him knife, and walk away?

Even the judge wey that sentence cannot walk away.
