I actually know the Nigerian Students Society President of your university. I think they have a facebook page if you search for it, but they are currently on holidays. If you need to him directly, I guess you can find his details on the facebook page or you send me a direct msg so that I reply with his details. Please my recommendation is to him for accomodation advice only by region as he has been there long enough to understand the terrain from a Nigerian perspective. Not to send him any money as he is not an accomodation agent. Best of Luck.

Ha ha ha ha ha. Very funny.

I'm ambidextrous. What I can do with my right hand, I can do it with my left. I write, I sweep, I stir, I eat etc with either of both hands. My mum hit me when I was a kid each time I wrote with left. My teacher flogged me when ever I wrote with left. I hated going to school for fear of the cane but then I stopped and started using right. In my mid 20s, I fell in love with lefties and started practicing to write with left once again. Today, I do it on impulse. I'm more of left than right.

Morale of the day: You can stop a child from doing something at a time. But there comes a time when you can't stop the child from doing that something.

ademo9: Hello house,I seriously need an advice here..I plan on inviting my mom to the UK on my student visa asap but she doesn't use her bank well enough. Is a 3 month bank statement going to work instead of the suppose 6 months.I hope that won't work against her..Thanks

I guess someone has already responded to ur query earlier on. Lemme suggest that you just print out ur mum's statement of 6months albeit it's only been active in the last three months.

At the end of the day, what would be taken into consideration is who's sponsoring the stay, some commitments cum ties your mum have in Nigeria, immigration history etc. Hope this helps.

Actually worry359 was on point with his reply to you, everything he said there is very important. I don't know a single university that provides accommodation for students with kids so you have to rent from private landlords or letting agents.

His comment about child minder is also very true only if you will be coming with a family member who will look after your kids while you are at school OR you them in day-care (depending on their ages) and pick them up everyday after school but its very expensive.

Since you are coming with 2 kids you need to rent 1-2 bedroom flat suitable for family.

Some universities do. Check this out:
University of Essex http://www.essex.ac.uk/accommodation/apply/families/ can offer accommodation for a couple and one child only.

University of Exeter
http://www.exeter.ac.uk/internationalstudents/families/familyaccommodation/

University of East Anglia. http://www.uea.ac.uk/accommodation/students-with-families.
That's only but a few.

cookies:
3sha4lyf, I really appreciate your response, Worry359 I didn't ask for ideas to survive with 2 kids as a full time student but accomodation ideas. I'm not a first timer in the UK and I'm fully aware of what it entails, going with my kids so your response wasn't necessary.

like I said you can try applying with uni. the SU for further info. Guess u fill a questionnaire and that will tell u if you can be accommodated or not. These accommodations are usually in-demand and limited. So one has to apply in time but if it's fully booked, unis can assist with names of renowned privately-owned housing for students.
Some unis have childcare units, some are in close proximity to the study campus so you can put your kids below 5 in while you study, and can range from £450-£700 monthly, depending on location. Also Children from age 5-16 can be accepted at a local state school at no charge.
Hope this helps.

Schools and Universities are set up to accomodate young single people.
How can you look after two children and go to school full time?

You will need money to burn to be able to pay child minders or creche to look after them.
in the UK there are laws about who can look after children or where you can leave them.
It's not free, in fact it's very expensive so you need to bring a big reserve of money!

Please don't say that to scare people from coming to the uk to study if they are not "young single people".
First of all you need to find our how old the kids are and if they are a bit grown, then you should be suggesting schools for them. Most people who come along with their kids here come planning that their kids will study while they study. It's only ideal.
Sometimes we know the truth is better but it's best when it's said in a subtle manner that it doesn't kill who hears it.

Please I need more accommodation ideas as I'm going with 2 kids. Thanks.
Check with your uni... they usually have accomodation for families. I would have suggested sites like zoopla, rightmove, flatshare, etc. You can start from there. Hope this helps.

IjogzK: Ermm I plan on Visiting the UK December this year. first time Visit.

These are my issues.

My port is to expire by July next year.
I am self employed and I am the MD of my Company but tly managed with my younger brother and Dad more like a family company, the company pays tax and I have copies of the company FIRS tax certificate.

I intend on using my savings which is well run alongside a letter from the banking stating that I am a signatory to the as I ain't the sole signatory to check excesses.

I have friends in the UK that I can get an invitation later from, but I am not sure of their financial strength but I am very capable of taking care of my self.

My questions goes thus.

1. Should I renew my port
2. I don't pay personal tax as I sometimes transfer money that I need to my anytime I really need money from the company .
3. I don't have a specific amount paid in as salary but I try not to make my balance go below a Million naira and even if it does at anytym it's either borrowed for a business and would definitely be returned either by a larger sum or different breakdowns. Plus I also spend a lot of money from the savings on thousands of things so it's not like I deposited d large sum n keeping it for a certain purpose.
4. My friend is a British citizen but he's not well paid. Do I need a hotel reservation or can I make a reservation and cancel it to stay with him when I get there.
5. My greatest problem is that he stays in Anfield and I don't want to leave North London thruout my stay. I am an addicted Arsenal fan.

1) Not a problem since its more than 6months to expiration.
2) Ok smiley
3) you can note that on your VAF that your earnings are not fixed. And explain that money movements in your s are monies lent to people and repaid, citing one or two if such movements in your .
4) if you won't stay with your friend, and if your friend is not ing you in anyway towards your stay in uk, eg. feeding, tour patner, etc., and/or cannot provide ing documents for you, then you dont need to involve your friend. And if that be the case, yes you need to make a hotel reservation. Hotels hold reservations and cancel them either free or for a fee. Be sure to check their Ts&Cs
5) get a place focal to your intended areas of tourism.

Danito2: Really would that be possible.and will it address it onto the clearance officer..and does he have to write it as a letter to explain our relationship and the benefit of the trip, aside from a simple invitation letter

An invitation letter should really be precise, stating the purpose for invitation, duration and conditions of the invitation. So you may not need to out details like "why circumstances has changed now and applicant is prepared for visa application" or the likes. All these details should be put in the additional section and if need be, continued on another paper which, some prefer it to be letter form. Regardless of whether you put in details, refrain from lengthy sentences, and lengthy pages of letters to the ECO. Each case worker had but a limited time to deal with each application.

I stand for freedom too. But I wish people accept that freedom has limits and the end of your freedom limits is the beginning of the other person's freedom. So don't encroach on others' freedom simply cos u don't lik'em, u don't agree with'em or you're slightly empowered than they are.

Peace!!!

I am not really saying that teleperformance has poor management generally or that this will go on forever, i am just saying that, for now, submitting at VI is a risk one can only attempt at his peril.

UKVI is also to be blamed really, and i do not fancy how they're handling the issue. Maybe because they really don't know what's going on.

But teleperformance has failed in all ramification. This is not their first time to handle visa processing. They're currently providing such services in many countries.
So why this kind of eff up with all their technology equipment and processes.
How can you NOT forward a parcel? Did the parcel got lost on the way? in your office?

Yeah, I see ur point and I can't agree with you any less. However, I also thing it's a big mismanagement on the Home Office part reason being that you can't take a job from a bad worker and give it to a worse worker. Either their management is poor at managing reshoring, or they dunno what their problem is, hence they can't find the right company to help facilitate, for example visa applications.

I think it all boils down to choice and if she's cool with it, no biggie
Here, lots of student tend to go with 11-14 inchers while some lack and go with big screens
I too was initially swayed but most of those laptops while offering portability lack processing oomph cool
If you recall, she said her laptop will serve her entertainment needs too
Personally I use a 15.6 incher but only because I have a 32 inch monitor at hand when I want to blow things up
[s] And do recall its only a recommendation, its not as if she has made the purchase yet [/s] tongue

No darling, no hard feelings... I'm just imagining myself dem days juggling with a lappy with 17". It would have frustrated me much more than the course I was doing. Lol. I back den my sister got a 17" lappy from US, it had the number keypad like that used by cashiers in old Union Bank in Naija. We teased her a lot to the extent that her lappy just turned into her TV catchup box and that's it. She never moved it from the spot.
I'm sure u get. smiley

13' shocked
Well, i believe everyone uses laptop differently.
For me, the wider the better. I am a software and web developer, so i need all the screen real estate i can get. I prefer a 17' and a 32' external display or even wider.
Entertainment is best on wide monitors. Can't imagine myself playing games on a mini

I know that feeling, trust me.
Truth to be told, I had an EDU (32"wink which I used to display my works from my lappy as well as do the major entertainment sturvs or watch all I wanted. But when it comes to portability, esp as I was a student, I enjoyed my 13" oh. When I'm doin short trips yet I got deadlines, there's always space for my 13".

I agree with this. Buy something that will be very useful both during your degree program + when you start working except you plan on trading in the old to purchase a newer one when you start working.

Yh. But then, the value would soooo drop and in a country where getting a new laptop is as cheap with offers, Ppl will opt for curry's than buy your used one. you may end up dashing it to your younger ones than trading it for monies to add up to buy a new one.

Heard guys won't mind using that kind of screen but I like small things. Used a 13" Sony for my first dissertation and then Apple IPad for all assignments, note taking and even partly the second.

Wish I could manage a big laptop (not computer) like that. sad

Just curios, pls how come no one is concerned bout the size of this lappy screen? 17" screen for studies
LabourParty:
This is what you need:
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/laptops/hp-pavilion-17-e153sa-17-3-laptop-21865580-pdt.html

Maybe I was a lazy student but I don't see myself walking bout or even using a lappy that big. If I wanted something that big, i'll just get a smart TV or desktop and keyboard and do the rest with it. Thus lappy would have been nice if it had the 15" version and probably with the i7 processor.

Plus, something worth doing is worth doing well... when investing in a lappy as a student, think of life after studies... what would you like to use that same lappy for? can it still meet your needs when you start working or you will need to get a new current one? Pls buy one that has a 3-5years initial product life so that come what may, it won't be obsolete by 2016.

To be on the safe side, buy directly from the airline; be it air , Ethiopian air, (pls avoid arik, they are horrible at giving you a nice travel-abroad experience, should you be traveling to uk god the first time).

I find that though agents may be cheaper, if anything happens, eg you have to make a sudden change, it can only be find by your agent and you'll spend more money trying to get them to do it. That's my personal finding.

My quote from my last comment was wgat I found on Emirates as the previous poster suggested.

Your prank worked. It goes to show the level of laziness in naija. People are quick to spread a rumor without doing further research on it.
This Ebola saga, many countries are looking for a cure before it even gets to them, we are banking on who will give us info without doing the investigation and so we are gullible to anything we hear.

Emmysteve: I have received several calls and texts urging me to bath with salt and drink the water afterwards to prevent Ebola virus. I am not a medical personal or practianal, however i am very certain that drinking salt or bathing with it can never prevent Ebola virus. Besides there's no scientific research or orthodox evidence to proof that such method do prevent Ebola apart from the preventive measures we read on newspapers and heae on radio which includes avoiding with the patients, avoiding and so on. Me i no dey bath with any salt. from Kolonut to Salt nawaoh

Please stop this rumours about Ebola entering Abuja, Kaduna, Jos and other states. People should stay calm and avoid large gathering especially those in Lagos and adhere to medical tips on how to avoid the disease.

My dear, can you imagine that my people woke me up this morning, all the way from naija, telling me to bath with salt and water before 5am to prevent the widespread of Ebola, and tell others to do same. I no even reason the matter sef. Not necessarily true, Emirates and Qatar have really cheap one way tickets if you don't mind the long haul flight, meanwhile BA and KLM will nearly cut your throat with thier return prices, which you are almost guaranteed to keep on changing. Also, if you do get a return, make sure its one that can be cahanged. Use wakanow or something to check the prices.

you have to make sure you are buying a ticket that can be changed, as not all return tickets can be.

Okies, so here's what I mean. And this us from emirates.
A return trip from Lagos, Nigeria to the uk, depart on Saturday 9 august, 2014, return 22 Dec, 2014 starts from $1780.10 .

Returning on 30th April, 2015 starts from $3054.00

However, a one-way from Lagos, Nigeria to London, UK departing same 9th of August, 2014 starts from $1175 and getting a return leg for the same 22 Dec, 2014 starts from £785.44 which is equivalent to approx. $1323 (at today's Forex rates) if booking today, as prices may inconsiderately rise during the festive season.

So in the long run, return may appear cheaper to some if all you need is a change of date fee (and any difference in flight fares ; this can be avoided if you do d change in time) and get on the plane.

But then of course, money is a factor here. If you can't get completely money for a full fare, then painfully, one way can help.

Hope this explains better.
