Back in the day, i.e, when I still had few or no work experience, I usually applied for jobs I had no prior experience in. I would keenly read the job description and then google the required skills for the job for better understanding.

My first paid job after NYSC, some 7/8 years back, got me working with a group of Project Managers who were consulting on Technical matters.(specifically, fiberoptics gurus) During meetings, when they discussed technical jargons which I didn't know jack about, I would go straight to google.

I also worked as a web/social media , when I hadn't done it before.

All your friend needs is trusting that he CAN do the job. Let him first understand the job functions, the rest will be easy.

Seeing as this post is somewhat more related to computer and web design stuff, the guy is confused. He doesn't know much about web and social media stuff and the job description is kinda intimidating to him.

He's thinking of ignoring the invite but then, its from a big company.

What do you think he can do? Should he forget it or give it a try?

there are some computer languages u hv to learn: HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, PHP, SQL

U might also need to learn Content Management Systems like Joomla, WordPress...

He knows what to do but if I were the one, I would make research about the position but if nothing is coming forthn I would rather remain in my room than go embarrass myself over something I can't relate to...Wondering how he applied though

He is supposed to be an for the company's social media page.. (similar to MOD on Nairaland).. Thus, they would interview his personality and how often he uses social media (Facebook, twitter, google-plus, linkedin, etc), and how well he reply people while interacting online.

It was a very funny interview cos at a point d table turn around in d couse of d interview and i stated interviewing them n bombarding dem with Qs out of my anger for their wastin my time.....my interviewer said she make 150k weekly and travle out 4confrenc regularly...but after all her lies, i check her shoes and suit, oboy, we we come interview sef dey more dressedup....bsid she look like person wey go never return to 9ja if she step out of 9ja border

IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE. I WAS CALLED FOR A SECURITY MANAGER POSITION. WHAT I DID WAS TO GO AND READ VERY WELL. MEMORIZED THE ALPHA BRAVO ECHO SEIRRA TANGO ZULU. IN FACT I ENDED UP TEACHING THE INTERVIEWER. I WAS NOT TAKEN BECAUSE MY LEVEL AND SALARY WAS BIGGER THAN WHAT THEY PLAN TO PAY. SO MY ADVICE IS THAT YOU GO NOW TO A NEARBY CAFE AND GOOGLE WHAT EVER YOU CAN AND READ THOROUGHLY. GOODLUCK

Did your friend actually applied for the job? If yes, he should go, but then, he should try as much as possible yi learn something about it and if no, he should forget it. if not, he may fell for 419ners. why u say so is this, I too have been receiving various text from companies dat I never applied for from, hence this advice.

A job title such as that mentioned by the OP usually doesn't require in depth technical knowledge. The person is actually just meant to manage the content of the company's website.
