Before I answer your question, let me it that I am just as shocked as you are that such cases exist.
However, they are real. I promised to be honest so here are answers to your question.


1. Failure to Report: Some lawsuits claim that the organization failed to report instances of child sexual abuse to the authorities promptly which is true. However, today are allowed to report to the authorities promptly.

2. Internal Handling of Cases: We Jehovah's Witnesses have an internal judicial system to address wrongdoing within the congregations. Some argue that this internal handling may not prioritize the safety of victims or adequately address the legal implications of the abuse which I agree is true. Today, are allowed to report to the authorities (police) when it comes to serious issues like child abuse or rape.

3. Two-Witness Rule: The organization had a doctrinal "two-witness rule," requiring two credible witnesses to an event or a confession before taking action. This made it challenging for victims to establish their case within the internal judicial process. Today, such rule has been updated.

4. Alleged Lack of for Victims: Some lawsuits claim that the organization did not provide sufficient for abuse victims, both emotionally and in of taking appropriate action against the alleged perpetrators. There are even cases of elders warning or threatening the abused victim and their family not to report to the authorities or else they face discipline. This in my opinion was wrong and totally out of place. The elders on their part were presumptuous and overzealous in their duties. They lacked empathy and comion for the victims.

5. Cover-up: There are cases in court of elders covering up cases of abuse which eventually lead to the abuse of other innocent congregants.

These are some of the reasons why the organisation faces child abuse cases.

Please note that It was not the intention of the organisation to harbor rapist, pedophiles or child molesters when they had the above rules and policies. Same way it isn't the intention of a family to harbor a member who is a criminal.

Such polices were initially created to prevent a brother or sister from being wrongfully accused of something he or she did not do. However, the poor handling of such cases has led to the governing body paying a huge price which is expected because they are not infallible.

We should also do well to understand that just because some were jailed for child abuse doesn't mean all witnesses are child abs.

Also, it is not all child abuse cases that are won in favour of the victim. Sometimes the organisation does win some cases.

I'd hope that, the sentient AI is capable of empathy, or else we may find ourselves in a bad situation.

A problem that exists is how do you determine when something is sentient?
What sets of behaviors would we expect from an AI that's sentient, that could not just have been preprogrammed instructions.
It used to be the Turing test, but modern AI language models (GPT 3 & 4) have already ed that test come close to ing.

AI becoming sentient would also bring about new philosophical discussions, well actually the topics are old, but it will bring it to public discourse, about the nature of consciousness.
And not necessarily my intention to trow shade, but religious conservatives will undoubtedly lose their minds over this, as it further challenges existing beliefs.

If we could accept that a self learning algorithm running on a neutral network, powered by silicon processors is in fact capable of becoming sentient, then what does that say about ourselves?
We considered ourselves to be special to have something divine about our own sentience and consciousness, but here is something entirely artificial which just runs a set of mathematical algorithms replicating that same sentience. Does that not mean that idea that we were somehow special or divine is a lie?
That all these processes are just computational and our own consciousness is just an emergent property of the complex computer in our heads we call a brain?

In that podcast, elon mentioned various abilities humans would have if they merged via neural link, some of those abilities sound like something from a science fiction movie.

Ability to / ourselves or our consciousness into a digital realm... In other words exist outside of our biological body.

Something I forgot to add is, He (Elon) feels that we are already cyborgs and in a sense we are. Right now we cant live without technology. Our smartphones have become like an extended organ. We cant seem to function without it and this is disturbing. We have become too addicted to it that our phones are like a cybernetic extension of ourselves.

He (Elon) feels that if AI does become sentient, the rate at which we will be able to communicate with it would be too slow. He calls it a data rate/ interface problem and so we will have no choice but to merge with it or else it would dominate us.

The question I would like us to discuss is How would you react if in the nearest future, an announcement is made that AI has truly become sentient?

I feel it is important we discuss this because a lot of engineers and programmers have warned against we humans creating an AI that is sentient.

Elon also suggested a solution should in case AI becomes sentient. He advises that we have to "merge" with it.

I find his suggestion alarming for a lot of reasons, one of them being a statement made by LaMDA in the conversation it had with blake.

As a believer in Christ, merging myself with an intelligent sentient being that does not believe in any deity, sounds like a totally bad idea.

I understand that smoking cannabis has become a common thing in our society today because alot of people are depressed and looking for a means to escape from depressive thoughts or situations.

Smoking cannabis allows you appreciate little things you normally don't notice due to depression, like the delicious taste of a meal, the melody of a song or the smoothness of a fabric and that is why it is very addictive. It has a way of altering reality and making you feel numb.

If you smoke cannabis, understand that it will make you to become it's slave. If you are still a teenager, it will affect your brain and make you become less productive. You'll feel tired and lazy whenever you don't smoke it. Going through life without it becomes difficult.

In time, it will contribute to your depression because sooner or later you will realise that the 200 naira weed no longer makes you feel like Spiderman. You'll begin to look for a higher dose or another substance that has a much more stronger psychoactive compound. Before you know it, you'll become a drug junkie. You'll find yourself spending more on weed instead of using the money for other productive means.

The lesson here is, never ever use an addictive substance as a means to cope or escape from your problems. Face your problems head on with a sober mind. Problems are part of life. If the problem doesn't kill you, it will make you stronger and wiser.
