davidodiba:Who gave the continent its name ? Start with that next time. Why didn't you mention Abrahamic religion ? What do the fools in this continents believe, their own spirituality or that of the Jewish, European and Arabs ? What names are they always proud to bear, those of their indigeneous or that of the foreigners ? 1 Like |

Esseite:Your comment is the best and most sensible response to a thread I've read on Nairaland since last year. May I ask if you still believe in the continuation of Nigeria, as a colonial structure, in spite of the inpugnity ? BluntTheApostle:That nonsense is even nothing, what if you're told that in past istrations, there are those in the Airforce who have taken the Nigeria jets to fly interstate just to buy suya meats and back ? You will faint Abi. |

dalass:The UK didn't colonize Nigeria, state your fact well. The British, like their European counterparts colonized a region in this continent and named it Nigeria. You Nigerians should start learning how not to state the occurrence of an event before the fact of that event existence, the vast majority of you, both unread and learned are all guilty of this anachrony. There never existed Nigeria, Ghana, Benin etc long before they (the European imperialist) invaded. We all had our ethnic nationality identified within each ancestral lands. Synord:I already know all of that concerning Trade Secret and as it contrast to patents (disclosing your formula to an authorized body in exchange for protection over a period of time), as for Coca-Cola...I've read years back on 'Reader's Digest' how their uniqueness is based on their trade-secret and all of that, except for the two executives who must never meet, however still....I'm still a huge fan of Pepsi-Cola for life! Just to give you an hint, as at 2004, I've been consuming Pespi at the rate of 15 bottles/plastics/cans per day till date (though it began declining since 2018/19), I nevertheless still manage to gulp a minimum of 5-7 plastics of the carbonated soft-drinks nowadays. Given the name of your moniker, are you an official whose field is linked with patent ing ? Thanks for all the info. |

Patented:Correct Patented:True Patented:Exactly....what I am asking....It is the novelty of a would-be method invented on and by technology to aid and solve an issue within transactioning in a type of financial world, majority of which are now technologized and best referred to as 'fintech'. Patented:I understand there are characteristics by which an idea/invention can be qualified for patenting, nevertheless, you can't expect me or anyone to disclose the nature, or key concept of the idea here just so you can get the full picture and therefore respond advisedly, I have therefore came up with the following analogy. There is noodles (right ?) We have different noodle makers such as Indomie, ChickiChiki, Mimee, Minemee, Honeywell etc So you have an idea on how noodles can be cooked without using water and still would be served cooked and taste better, you went ahead and create it but yet to launch it, the possibility that once you launch it to the consuming public, other makers of noodles may in turn start mimicking the formula by which the idea behind your product is patronized, the question is....can the formula behind the idea be patented prior to been launched into the public ? You may substitute the word "formula" with 'method/business-method. Patented:Agreed but not if my method of doing business was not only the first on the scene, but has become the intellectual property ascribed to a company with a name that is eponymous to the very concept behind the fin-tech method of conduction such business. For instance the word "google" has become an house-hold name that implies to look up something, and the name is eponymous to the company name itself (before it became Alphabet Inc). There were previously other search engines portals before Google came up such as Lycos and Yahoo! and Binge!, but Google came up with a search engine algorithm with an algorithm that's so unique and efficient thereby setting it apart from others, and they filed for a patent to which it was granted. Now, because it is USA, where law is law, Yahoo, AskJeeves, Lycos, Binge and all others would never ever copy or make use of Google indexing search formula, whether be it a trade-secret or open-secret any programmer can do, because that patent law protects them. It is in the same vein, I am asking, but here in Nigeria...where I used the noodle analogy above. Would the patent law be able to deter others from copying, mimicking or cleverly cloning my technologized method of conducting, not just a business transaction, but a type within the fin-tech world of commerce and trade. |

Synord:Ofcourse I am aware of all that. Why wouldn't you guys understand that in all my inquiry to which I'm seeking your good advise on, the idea, as I expect you ought to assume, is ofcourse, within the ambit of after having executed, launched and set into operation, and NOT about embarking on a journey of seeking to patent what hasn't been created. And so I ask again below.... Patented:In reference to the statement of the above attached screenshot....would after launching and executing a particular way of conducting business (and by virtue of its novelty of haven't been done before), would I stand to be protected if a patent is granted, would the patent deter any parties from copying, mimicking, emulating and using my same idea of how the business (transaction, operation) is conducted. |

Synord: Understood. But still, the summary of all I'm trying to get at with my inquest on this thread is summarized in the two attached screenshot below. I will like to know if the principle highlighted in the attached images also apply within the Nigeria patent laws, hence qualifying my company to file for a patent, in order to deter any from stealing my fintech idea by way of mimicking, emulating, direct copying, clever imitation whatsoever. cc: Synord Bcc: Patented Ltherman

Patented:As an informed contributor to this thread, I thank you for sharing your insight. Patented:I get your point that IP laws don't exist to deterring poachers from infringing or mimicking what is proprietarily ascribed to an owner, or an inventor (as it would be in my regards), but given the kind of country we are, where rules and laws can be flouted and circumvented, my question is, and one predicated on taking up measure if push comes to shove, would I be empowered by these laws to file a lawsuit against any whom, in anyway, borrowed, copied, mimicked or imitates the novelty core upon which my IP property is based on functioning in the Fintech space, I wouldn't want an idea that took me almost half a decade to conceived, hone and perfected be flagrantly replicated without permission. Patented:Take for instance, someone comes up with a Sport Betting formula that's not only innovative but a game-changer to how various sports matches are wagered online, a truly original and novel mechanism that attracts more s to it, and later on, after a year or more, many of the established old platforms began to cleverly incorporate that exact formula into theirs, and while some did it cleverly, others simply just imitates it, impressing the emerging new ones who simply just plagiarized it, now how does the original creator/inventor of this be protected from having his/her formula lifted (any ignorant may argue it's simply just coding anyone can do, if so why don't we have a multiple of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and SnapChat, ofcourse there may be similar but patent and copyright laws protect the core idea/concepts that makes them unique) In Nigeria, I have noticed that everyone tend to copy each other, and the whole bunch just keep doing the exact same thing, originally started by someone, as it can be observed not just in the Fintech space but in other field too, like in the e-Commerce industry. Patented:Can you please provide me with any real life events involving parties where one's intellectual property (patented or copyrighted) was knowingly/unknowingly infringed upon and there was justice prevail in favor of the infringed (and not the infringer). Thanks. |

Synord:Thank you for the prompt reply. I actually sent you an email, right after I made that post. I get your point and I can say I understand the basic difference between Copyright, Trademark and Patents. Could you just for my sake and those of others, expatiate on the core difference between the aforementioned three especially as it relates with my concerned which I will be elaborating to the contributor 'Patented' below: |

Hi Idowu Appreciate the thread Had no idea an individual like you exist among tech people in this part. I'm more interested in the area of safe-guarding my one of my intellectual property from being blatantly copied, stolen and or mimicked, as it involves coding a unique type of payment solution that has never before done before. A fintech novelty. Because of this I'm learning coding myself and would like to be guided as to how one can patent it before launch. I pretty much understand that one cannot request a patent for an idea or a business idea. One can only be granted an exclusive patent right for inventing, a product or a process that provides a new way of doing something, or that which offers a new technical solution to a problem. My concern is...in Nigeria, does our patent laws exist to genuinely protects the interest of the tech inventor. |

ednut1:Religion and ignorance. Nigerians takes fancy in bearing foreign names in order to sound civilized. For instance, some bear Greek names whose meaning they have no idea how it is linked to Greek's mythological past steeped in mythology and yet claim to be Christians who spits on names associated with the Gods native to their very own ancestral origins. |

OP Truly this country hard no be small but there are things that are too abominable to be even considered unless one lacks certain depth of intellect to know any better. I've been approached by gays 3 times in my life and once online on Kik. They all told me how handsome I'm attractive to them while offering juicy benefits. It's just not my thing cos I'm too straight to be bent. 2 Likes |

clumsydyna:No I'm not. I thought I was. Honestly, I dont know if I'm hailing or dying. The pain is something else. This is the toughest and longest malaria-fever illness I've ever battled. Taken both conventional and unorthodox medicine (drugs, injection, àgbò etc). The plasmodium has built up resistant. My temperature rises at night. I'm advised by a nurse to try and take drip just to flush them parasites out but I'm financially drained for now. Severe headaches, general weakness, shivering to the bones, sudden temperature rise at night coupled with the thought of the January loss of my father, my stolen 256GB iPhone weeks ago, I just come on Nairaland to clear my mind because I don't think a fine, decent guy like me deserve this torture. I never expected it would linger on this far, because I normally get better in a matter of days. All in all, you have no idea how kind of you to empathize . Appreciate your concern. I'll continue to stay positive and hopeful. I'll prevail and get back to you. |

clumsydyna:Well, I like to think and type a lot on a norms, but I'm seriously 'Down With The Sickness' (a track by a hard-rock band called Disturbed used as the soundtrack for Queen of the Damned starring the late Aaliyah). Thing about me with malaria fever is sometimes if I fold up cringing on a spot for too long, the whole feverish thing tend to overwhelm me and grows stronger, but as I try to find one activity or another to do as I'm used to on a norms, I kinda fight it back. But this one stubborn oo! I'm told to get a drip. As per that Yorùbá adage, the "dance" word was only used in a metaphorical sense, it can be interchanged with anything depending on the context of interpretation. The point is "if you use money marry wife, na another money bag wey get money you go steal her go" just like it could be anything. Love and relationship should go beyond money is all I'm saying. What about qualities that don't fade, like sense of humor, intellect, shrewdness, prudence, ability to invoke tranquility etc. Do you agree that most of the relationships in the western world and arab world are not peculiarly based on money and like I said I get all your point, but I'm not in for the 100% thing, be it in Nigeria or anywhere, why should money be the overall reason why we are in a true and loving relationship, what if something unexpected happened (like a bad investments) along the line and all the money vanished, the woman/lady/spouse/girlfriend would definitely go. I'm guessing you understand Yorùbá and possibly a speaker too. I'll respond to your other comments later on, I just have to go and find a way to sleep. |

clumsydyna:DELAYED REPLY I've been terribly under the weather battling serious malaria-fever. I'm just using agidi-okunrin to do things when I should be resting. TORTUOUS LOVE You wish you knew the heart of men! well...I wish I can read the thoughts and mind of not just women, but humans. Unfortunately there is no juju nor any means to acquire or develop telepathic ability. EMO/GOTH/HARD-ROCK MUSIC Hell yeah you're right, it was reminds one of the original track titled 'In The End' by Linkin Park from their very first album called Hybrid Theory and a slurry remix of the same track on their second album named 'ReAnimation' titled 'Enth E Nd'. That original one it reminded you of was a banger back then, this Mellen Gi remix version featuring Fleurie is the most beautiful female rendition of an Alt. Rock-Rap music I've ever heard in my life, it has the power to pacify a troubled soul. Only that, I got to notice that some TikTok and Instagram s kept using it as their background music in all manners of videos, whether it befits or not. Kinda makes me sick. ZODIAC In as much as I'm a deeply rational entity I can't help but to agree with you that those horoscopic revelation usually tend to be true and near accurate, I fall under Cancer, the reason why I asked you is because there are those who just go on to check their zodiac compatibility and I am always like WTF! because it has long been disregarded as fringe-science in the scientific world favored by charlatans who clinging on to the pseudo-science remnant of Astrology! NB: Astronomy (scientific) was derived from astrology (junk/trashed science) in the same vein Alchemy (pseudoscience) beget Chemistry (scientific). So I ask, would you consider zodiac compatibility before dipping your toe in a promising relationship ? MONIKER PREFIX ORIGIN Could your clumsiness have anything to do with not getting right when painting your nails yourself or finding it hard to navigate your way to the treasure trove during a wallet-rape session (lol)? If I guessed wrong, I wouldn't mind knowing if you don't mind telling. MONEY IN RELATIONSHIP I agree, but weren't there true love and the expression of it in the ancient world were money was never in existence ? Anyways, for the same reason money helps to define the expression of real love from one love-bird to another, same money has proved itself to play a major role in the corrupting and destruction of relationships, and I don't lack of, I mean both in adequate and ample amount of, so I will pick 50% and leave room for others to share the remaining 50% in regards to factors like...always been there, achieving together, loyalty, faithfulness, bla bla bla... the kind of love that would make a Tom Cruise to risk it all just to save his wife in Mission:Impossible 3. He understood his wife 100% so much that he could read her lips from afar, and I suppose his wife knew the things he fell in love with her hubby for. Yoruba proverb says "obinrin ti wan ba fi ijo fe, ijo ni wan ma fi gbe lo" which literally translate to "a wife who was swoon into marriage by the performance of a superb dancer would eventually be whisked away by another great dancer" so the 100% money thing kinda tend to crumble there if you can apply it as an analogy. Don't get me wrong, I understand that immense hardship and widespread poverty in the environs and of the mind, has eaten deep into the fabrics of our reality here, ceaselessly twisting the minds of the majority as intense love for materialism as replaced love for the immaterial, while Abrahamic religions continues to provide the avenues for most Nigerians to engage in debauchery, ignominy and hypocrisy. A lot of abnormality as become normalcy 'norms' permeating our once rich but now fallen society. Forgive my musing, all I'm trying to say is....it's hard to find realness in such a fallen society as ours, whether money is 100% injected into a relationship or not, note that I said "realness" instead of "true love" which is has gone into extinction long before the days of Secret of The Sand, it just took us a long time to notice. Do you believe true love may still exist (hiding somewhere for bonafide true-lovers to find it) or it has never even existed (a pipe dream) ? Good morning! |
![]() |
clumsydyna:Can't ? I can't help but to wonder if that why you picked 'clumsy' (lol), as for not been a Yorùbá...I dont mind, I just wanted to know. I don't discriminate. If I may ask, do you fully (or somewhat) subscribe to the Horoscopic reading that specific signs of the zodiac has bearing on our personality, fate and morals as are influenced by each human born under a month specific to a zodiac sign. If by any chance, you have listened to 'In The End (Mellen Gi remix) ft. Fleurie' how does it make you feel ? Do you accept that guys want love if it's torture as resounded in Blank Space ? And finally, though I agree money is not just important, but very very important (particularly in Nigeria), to be honest what percentage would you ascribe to the importance of money as the major contributing factor for even the truest of relationship founded on genuineness in order for it to last the test of time? 10%? 30%? 40%? 100%? |

Why don't we like to bear name s that truly define our identity or that appropriately reflects the tribes we originate from. A German would name his child a Deutsch name as would a French and a Japanese person, but why do Nigerians find it cool to accept the naming of their children with not just a Jewish or English names, but mere words found in an English lexicon. Phenomenal16:Yes, and why phenomenal? Are you phenomena by real name, if not tell me what's so phenomenal about you that's yet to be unraveled by science ? Nigerians are fond of bearing funny names like Constance, Anointing, Phenomena, Blessing, Gift, Bright, Smart, Patience, Innocent etc You can add yours. 2 Likes |

clumsydyna:It's kinda my style. clumsydyna:Life is balance, relatively speaking, it's in a 5th world country like Nigeria such statement appears to hold sway. clumsydyna:Ofcourse that's pretty much known but you seem to have misunderstood me. I'm not seeking for an opposite sex that totally reflects me. That would be foolhardy to embark on, but a lady whose taste and predilections completes mine and whose action complements me, just as I, hers' See, what's important to me, is a no-negative female that brings peace of mind. Not one unduly attitudinal, antagonistic, self-entitled, emotionally-toxic, boring, bland, materialistic, mundane, unoriginal, egocentric and insolent drama queen, or those phlegmatic bimbos of the stolid type who can't do without having her screws loose at every unreasonable second. That "key" you called understanding is something I very much have an abundance of, but Nigerians tend to mistaken it for gullibility. clumsydyna:Yes, but my ọbẹ usually have this "ask for more" taste in quality. I hope my partner knows how to cook better than I am because I can't cook everyone food which I wish to know how. I'm unable to cook for a while now due to where I am currently wherein lacks the opportunity. clumsydyna:Truth is I don't like dogs, though I can tolerate them but you see cat ehn! They are just too hilarious, relatable and usually cute to adore. Felines are far more interesting than Canines, and also hygenically cleaner. clumsydyna:Lol! I'd rather you not spite me with a PlayStation-5, the specification is worth breaking the bank for. clumsydyna:So glad to know, I hope the aspect of rap musicals you like the rhymings, it takes lot of creativity to come up with sensible ones. What band/artists makes up your list of emo/rock. And are you Yorùbá and a Lagosian? |

clumsydyna: And yet all actions begins with a conversation, at least some sort of it, unless except in cases where the other party has aquiesced to be taken for granted prior to the enaction. clumsydyna:That's anyone, I'm not anyone, I'm someone who knows what he desires. clumsydyna:In as much as that's true, would she feel irked if I, as a way of loosening up, chose to play the reverberate heavy sounding So Cold by Static-X on a Saturday morning I don't think that's how it works although some might argue to the contrary. Even partners and couples in the same line of work get along fine. clumsydyna:I'm not cool with the word 'specifications', that's a word much suited for inanimate things like a device or machinery which the female is not, I'd rather you used 'feature' or 'attributes'. To me, I see it more like a predispositions she could have, and if not, won't feel irked by, better if she doesn't feel bothered which can be mutually appealing, as would someone with a specific kind of kink Interlocks with a partner who's into that same kind of kink. I'm a sucker for cats, and let's say she is only into dogs, it can still work, I don't like animes and soap-drama and those two are exactly what believes the TV was created for, we can still work, I can cook, but let's say she doesn't know how or lacks, it could still work. But you see those I listed....ha! o gbọdọ tàbí diẹ ninu rẹ. Speaking of cooking sef, I'll see if I can still find a pic of a fine ọbẹ I cooked few years back. Haven't had the chance or opportunity to ever since bit e still dey body. |

clumsydyna:It's like saying I enjoy driving Volvo cars, it doesn't mean I can't drive others. Ofcourse I listen to most genres too, Tecno, Rave, Grunge, RnB, Adult Contemporary like Brian McKnight, Carl Thomas to certain oldies like Barry White and few I cant for now, to many down right home based genres like Apala, Sakara, Fuji to old school dub reggae to some good old Calabar/Ghanian hi-life and even some raw shaku-shaku trashy tracks, yes I know how to enjoy them all with those who , but my all time favourite that connect to the soul still remains emo/gothic/hard rock and some gangster rap tracks the likes of D-12, Eminem, Ice Cube and Fela Kuti. The items listed sure are not the only criteria for accessing compatibility, and unless you were expecting me to state my favourite color and zodiac sign, you could have dropped your suggestion. |
