i know you are great wherever you are. that is why i feel curious for you and your trip.

thx for enlarging my vocabulary, but i also asked lots of other questions, will you condescend to answer them too?

i , honestly , can not hold my contempt to vietnam, i need to be honest to myself, hope this will not affect our talks.

how can you survive eating those pitifully scanty rice noodles ? they leave you hungry again 1 hour later.

how is the attitude they hold towards african ?

...to think this is even coming from someone[ that has no problem calling Chineses peeps d***head and co

igbesachick:

chinese peeps? sounds you have an issue with chinese. is vietnam better than china or what? have you been to china?

are you nigrerian port holder ? how is it going to vietnam ? still in vietnam at this point? they dont kick you out or you fail to buy a plane ticket home? you make a living out of teaching english ??

in my memory, vietnam was a piece of crap, things priced more than they worth, and ppl were mean and parochial, and worst was, their feeding was too small, i needed to take 3 bowls of noodles to make me full.

the whole shiethole vietnam is owned by chinese factory owners and all sorts of businessmen. they are more servile to chinese than nigerian to chinese, although they fvcking hilariously "look down on" chinese.

anyway, i do feel curious for you and your life in vietnam.

Are you sure you're okay like this?

Did you actually read through the thread or at least follow the news to know the happenings here or you're just bent on the noodles?

If the word "Peeps" was your problem, did you stop to at least check out the meaning before your fingers ran faster than you?

Please learn to give constructive opinions on my thread next time.. Not that it matters to me anyways. I'm doing great here

Now let me digress a little...

Some might be wondering why 4000 USD is a big deal. Well, if you're here, it is!

If you earn 4000 USD a month, and stay in a one bedroom like mine, you pay rent of 237 USD. You have 3763 USD left.

From 3763 USD, you spend let's say 100 USD on food or let's live large...200 USD which is outrageous. You still have 3573 USD left.

Let say you decide to drink, party, shop et al and spend the 573 USD every month which again is crazy, you have 3000 USD at the end of each month left

3000 USD
69,474,419 VND
1,144,384 Naira

You dig now bah ?

Accident/Bike issues

Now that up till now, I worked only in the evenings. I was comfy working just a couple of hours in the evening of some days and full time on weekends.

Then I heard that in this same Vietnam, people earn 4000 USD per month and my brain reset. I wanted more. I asked myself why I was wasting my mornings and afternoons and some days altogether doing nothing.

This was partly because the morning jobs available were offering really low salaries to non natives and I wasn't about to commit long term to such and give up sleeping in at the same time. Coupled with the Covid-19 2.0 and August being bad, I knew I had to do something. So I began looking and applying again

Back to the topic....I was low on cash, hadn't worked for a while and then bike started giving me issues. the bike is very important as it enables me go to work at different locations easily so I had to fix it but it was like I earn, spend it on repairs, problem begins the next day, spend again, new problem. Kai, it really wasn't a good month.

September came which is a good time to get new jobs but I was still struggling. after getting a new battery and paying for series of repairs, I decided to sell it off and buy another second hand bike. MISTAKE.

On the way to sell it, had an accident. Back tyre bursted or something but God saved me. I had just got off the highway into one secluded lane and traffic light turned red behind me. Long story short, had to buy a new tire and by the time I got to where I would sell it, the price wasn't even up to all I spent on repairs.

I was desperate, far from home and scared of driving home on that bike so I made another hasty decision and bought a second hand bike.

Later found out I bought it at double what I was supposed to, the place I bought it is full of scammers and thieves and the bike is faulty too..

I did not see cry to cry cos I started the whole earn, repair, earn repair cycle again untop money I did not have. Worse was, I tried selling it and again the price...let me just keep quiet.

It would have been better I added money and bought a new bike but too late. Lesson learned though. We move...

Covid 2.0.

So after the whole saga of Vietnamese guys smuggling Chinese peeps into the country and bringing back the pandemic, some areas were shut down.

Luckily, it was controlled pretty fast. However, many Centers went on a two weeks break. By the time they resumed, some were too broke to continue or had lost students or had issues of scared parents who didn't want their kids to resume just yet.

This in turn affected we teachers including me. I lost about 3 of my classes after staying indoors for 2 weeks. August wasn't a too good time for me but I managed to pull through with what I still had.

Finally, things picked up, I never got those classes back but at least I was back in class ...then my bike started giving issues

@Whyna, after searching and searching about how to get the Vietnam work visa, I finally found some but they sound suspicious.

I've spoken to like ten of them but I'm still not convinced. What I noticed is that, most of them told me they are going look for job for me and get me an accommodation ($150 a month). Lol...the offers looks too good to be true. I'm still skeptical about it. This thing no easy o. I'm thinking of not going for my NYSC and place all my focus on this journey.

Some of them sent me some documents but they are not convincing enough.

A first timer cannot get a temporary residence card. You get a visa first, then when it expires, you can apply for TRC

$150?? What province biko? Is it shared apartment? Best thing is to book a o e week accommodation which can be done online. Withiin that one week, you will find an apartment that suits your taste within an area you like

One more thing, if it's an African you're talking to, be extra careful. Those guys have sweet mouth like Yaba boys till you ask for proof that they are genuine.

They will tell you things that even you did not ask for.

No I can't sorry. I don't want stories that touch the heart and then they come back here and say Whyna planned and dupped us.

If I was the one handling the visa processing, then I can be held able if something goes wrong and you can drag me my name to any length. I can't take same for someone else

what's BTA, and what was the certificate you obtained from MoE and MFA
God bless you for sharing

BTA is basic travel allowance. It's the cash you carry on you while traveling to help you settle in till you get a job

I didn't obtain any certificate there. I only went for authentication. Please check previous threads

Little update....

As at today, there are only 151 active Covid-19 cases. These guys really know how to take control

Schools are back in session. It's the beginning of a new school year. Everything is back to normal although you are still required to wear a mask in public places

Flights in and out of the originating city of the second wave of the pandemic in the country has commenced. This goes further to show how well they controlled the second outbreak.

Entry for people from 6 Asian countries:. Seoul, Guangzhou, Tokyo, Taipei, Cambodia and Laos will commence on the 15th

New visas are not granted yet even for those who are in the country. The government has been giving those who their visa expired during the pandemic free extension and now, their visa has been extended till December.

Some students who got ission also said the school asked them to either study online or wait till next year.

Putting two and two together, they might not be opening borders to all countries this year. TET festival is in Jan/Feb and I'm sure they wouldn't want to keep people from celebrating due to a 3rd outbreak.

I might be wrong though as no official announcement has been made. Borders remain closed sha except people coming from the countries listed above. You can however, leave the country

The demand for teachers are still very high, the weather is becoming cooler as it's raining now. It's Autumn season

But it's not the first time I'm mentioning this na. I've told you guys what I earn per hour.

I also told you guys I've rejected jobs that offered $8-12

So when @Joohan said that, I had to make him dream bigger.

Again I advise, use this time wisely and start brushing up yourself. Yes I know there's no practice or experience like the main thing. I personally believe in learning by making mistakes but then try

@WhyNa, hope you're safe? Been long we heard from you.

Hey guys, sorry I've been quiet.

My Centers are all back to business so it's back to being busy busy busy for me.

My heart wanders here once in a while but truth is, there is really nothing to update. Maybe soon, there will be

The number of cases and death is still increasing but not so much. Schools are back to normal including businesses.

There is a very high demand for teachers now and teachers are doing shakara sef. All these schools that offer $8 per hour are gradually seeing shege. But the truth remains that you'll also always see people who even in this time of plenty are willing to collect that sum

Also, it's not looking like the borders are opening soon. Let's see what happens come October/November.

Cheers
