comodo:6 OR 7 midfielders will make the final squad list, with the uncertainty of injuries and need for depth; it will be utterly brainless for NFF to approve a thin midfield in a serious tournament like the AFCON where African teams are ready to break your leg...I expect the usual guys like Ndidi, Iwobi, Onyeka, Onyedika and Aribo as guaranteed in the final squad, then one or two spots will be up for grabs so I tip Alhassan to them cause he has the best profile among the fringe players like Nwakali and Fisayo Dele Bashiru...Nwakali might also make the final cut cause he also very massive PR pushing him. 2 Likes |

Curtisaxel10: I respectfully disagree with you, I know Peseiro isn't particularly smart, but he will be the biggest idiot (and I'll actually consider it an act of deliberate sabotage to Nigeria) if he brings only 4 midfielders to a tournament as demanding and serious as the AFCON...if injuries happen to a midfielder or two then will he play his strikers and defenders in midfield? I personally think 6-7 midfielders will make the final cut cause I think NFF will play a big role in the selection process of the final 27 squad list, cause they know what is at stake if we fail to do well in this tournament (especially with our world cup campaign already off to a bad start). |

elunico:They got to the 2002 AFCON final and got undone by very corrupt officiating against Cameroon in that infamous PK shoot-out...my point is those 1994-2002 guys always knew how to stand tall and deliver in big moments when we needed them, the only problem with that generation was that they were too individually skilled to the detriment of playing as a TEAM, and most of the players were full of ego. The 2006 ouster against Angola was one of those upsets that happen in football. Right now, can you point out one single player from this team who can produce a moment of magic when the chips are down? 1 Like 1 Share |

Samueltemi337:Sarcasm or no sarcasm the truth has to be said. We just don't have elite players, just "decent enough" players to get us by every now and again. Don't expect too much from this AFCON with this team if I were you 1 Like |

Osimhen lacks that elite mentality to win us key games or even carry us in the AFCON like the likes of JayJay, Oliseh, Aghahowa etc did in the 2002 AFCON. I know most of us hate to hear this truth, but Osimhen isn't THAT GUY, no player on this current team has that world class cutting edge ability to carry and lead this present crop of SE players.

How the bloody hell did Emmanuel Dennis out of nowhere get selected over Akpom,, Ejuke or Gift Orban? why must every Nigerian team selection be marred with controversy and drama?

Only thing I missed on here was the sports sub-forum, at least I can now get more updates on the Super Eagles and the AFCON tournament in a few weeks.

If that list I'm seeing is accurate with Ahmed Musa and Emmanuel Dennis included...then It's safe to say either Peseiro or/and the NFF are trolling us at this point...I just hope that list is inaccurate. The midfield looks good though |

AndSunGorilla:Osimhen looked fit yesterday when he came off, must have been a slight knock and was taken off for precautionary reasons but there's not enough evidence to suggest he won't make the AFCON until we see an official statement from his medical team. |

People are being shamelessly disingenuous here and the disrespect to Amunike over a clearly edited video which showed him out in a very bad spot shows we will always throw our own under the bus without proper context. The longer version of the video which Amunike replied "Salah" to was when the interviewer asked him SPECIFICALLY whom he will choose between Hakimi and Salah, the question was precisely framed that way cause Amunike has a decent clout following from his club in Egypt where he rose to stardom...Amunike is popular in Egypt (as he started his career there ) expectedly chose SALAH. Once again it's context-based, but the shorter version of the edited video was posted and Amunike was made to look like he betrayed his own countryman, much more a player he discovered and gave a chance to shine as manager. There's even a more complete video where Amunike was interviewed before the award ceremony on whom his choice of winner was for the CAF APOY, and he unequivocally chose Osimhen as the most deserving winner for the award. Make una dey use Ako nu che before giving a dog a bad name just to hang it. Amunike will never do Osimhen dirty like that, that's a man Osimhen looks up to and owes a lot of gratitude to for giving him the platform to show his stardom. 14 Likes 5 Shares |

Iwobi looks a completely transformed player in Fulham, evidence of a good player who only needed the right environment and coach to finally blossom. Meanwhile Tosin Adarabioyo scored, making a solid case for an AFCON call up if Peseiro and NFF are serious about winning 5 Likes 3 Shares |

Fulaninigger:Lol I hate to get into all this petty tribal fights but all tribes were represented in the man's sexcapades including lots of Yoruba ladies which the OP mischievously excluded. The full list he made is on his Facebook page, even Northern girls had their own exclusive list. I think the man exaggerated the numbers cause disease suppose don kill am if those numbers were true. 2 Likes |

daveP: Surely this Alex Oyowah lad can't do any worse than a div 2 benchwarmer like Aribo who has no business in the national team, there should be at least 3 decent midfielders in our local league that are good enough to make the Super Eagles...then add the likes of Alhassan Yusuf, Ifeanyi Matthew, Nwakali, Folorunsho to the established faces like Iwobi and Onyedika/Onyeka and we should have a solid midfield depth. There's no excuse why any sane modern day coach should be inviting only 4 midfielders when we have OPTIONS. Peseiro is really am idiot for wasting our time honestly. 1 Like |

My perfect sketch of my ideal Eagles team under a new coach at AFCON, it's a rough set up that reflects the players we need going forward. GKs Jonathan Rasheed/Arthur Okonkwo/ Stanley Nwabili Defence Zaidu Igoh Ogbu Omeruo OR Ajayi Jordan Torunarigha Gabriel Osho Aina Bruno Midfield: Kelechi Nwakali Ifeanyi Matthew/ Michael Folorunsho Alhassan Yusuf Ndidi Iwobi One U20 player (maybe either of Eletu, Akinsanmiro or Tochukwu Nnadi). Forwards: Osimhen Akor Adams Gift Orban Kelechi Iheanacho Simon Moses Boniface Lookman OR Tella (want to see more of him under a REAL coach). My first XI will come from the players listed above, since CAF expanded the AFCON squad list to 27 so new players will definitely be called up. Bench: Chukwueze Awoniyi Bassey Moffi Players to be dropped unless their club situation changes between now and January as far as playing time goes: Joe Aribo Uzoho Umar Sadiq 27 players in total for the AFCON and a new coach Cc: TheSuperNerd, How you take see am? |

GoodLife4live: Honestly as much as I hate getting involved in all this tribalism nonsense on here, I've got to say most of you Yorubas on here are the problems we face on this forum. I'm not sure if it's low self-esteem which is ironical because your people accuse Igbos of always playing victim and always wanting to measure up to the Yorubas...but the opposite seems to be the case. If Igbos want to "chest beat" about the developments in their region why not ignore the thread as long as your people weren't mentioned in the thread? na by force to derail and force yourself uninvited just for tribal fights? some of you really need help sha 6 Likes |

I believe under a REAL coach and some dropping + addition of players we should be back on track, still alot of games to be played. I just want NFF to announce a new coach before AFCON starts so he can use the AFCON to know his players and bed in his tactics before the next round of WCQ next year. At this point I don't mind if they even announce any of Amunike, Finidi or Oliseh as interims, at least those ones are our ex-internationals and will call up enough midfielders as well as scout more of our fringe players doing well in Europe and back home. Just get Gbeseiro abi eiro far far far away from my National team. 1 Like 1 Share |

This is my final take (albeit a short one) on the way forward from this mess. I want TheSuperNerd to give me his opinion on this. My 5 Keypoint submissions: 1. Peseiro surely has got to go now, there's no gainsaying why he shouldn't be fired before the week runs out and his contract severed cause it's more than obvious the man is utterly redundant and gash. NFF should source for funds from wherever they can for all I care and make sure the man is paid off whatever he's owed to avoid another Rohr situation. If the Peseiro to Zamalek rumors are true, then it couldn't have come at a better time. Good riddance to bad rubbish I say. The man has the worst record of any SE manager in recent history. 2. NFF should be in talks with any of Oliseh (as much as I hate this), Siasia (is his ban over?), Amunike, Ndubuisi Egbo, Manu Garba and even Randy Waldrum. Given the short window of time we've got left before AFCON starts, it's impracticable to find a solid foreign coach, and I doubt NFF can afford the money to pay a tested foreign coach anyway. Can we get Pitso Mosimane? A man can only dream. 3. Whoever becomes the new coach definitely has his work cut out for him, for starters more than half of these current crop of players need to be either dropped for good, put on probation and axed if they fail to meet up to tactical expectations. Which brings me to point #4 4. Players that should be retained from this current set of players are Osimhen, Ndidi, Simon, Iheanacho, Iwobi, Aina and Zaidu/Osayi Probation list should be: Chukwueze, Awoniyi, Moffi, Lookman, Onyeka, Onyedika, Bassey, Ajayi, Bruno onyemaechi and Boniface. Players that NEED TO BE DROPPED FOR GOOD: Uzoho, Jamiu Collins, Omeruo, and Awaziem. 5. The players that now have to be called up to show us if they belong under the new coach and tactical system will be: Gift Orban, Akor Adams, Alhassan Yusuf, Nwakali, Eletu, Akinsanmiro, Igoh Ogbu, Noah Atubolu, Jonathan Rasheed, Olisa Ndah, Folorunsho. And if we can manage to get that Kayode kid that plays for Florentina to commit to Nigeria, it will be a massive coup for us. The time to overhaul and rejig starts NOW, let's not wait till after the AFCON before we fire this fat retard called Peseiro, because we all know we aren't getting out of our group under this man. So let's not waste each other's time and get on with the business. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Do we need a national team overhaul guys? maybe these players aren't as good as we make them out to be. Whoever will be the new coach really has his work cut out for him as far as player selections go. I'm genuinely tired and confused, how the fu*k are we struggling so badly in a group of Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Rwanda etc? something just doesn't add up. 2 Likes |
