The Enron deal was cancelled in good faith.

I think Simon Kolawole should leave politics for politicians lest he loses his credibility and objectivity.

These boundary adjustments were done during Obasanjo's presidency.

2006 was the year when Odili was seriously gunning for the Presidency and Amaechi was the speaker of the Rivers house of assembly. Could it be that some assets were forfeited for political gains.

OBJ should write an Open letter explaining the controversial boundary adjustments during his tenure.

Nigerians must learn to study their leaders and read between the lines of statements they make.

The current political realignments is not about good governance but a struggle for who shares the national cake. Unless and until we, the followers, learn to look beyond primordial sentiments, we will forever be tossed around by the selfish countrymen we call leaders.

My hope is that Nigeria's greatness would rise out of the ruins of the current political destructions.

Demdem I will have to disagree with you there, his popularity is as a result of his being perceived as someone who brought development to his community; Amassoma by giving them NDU same as Ibori is popular in Oghara due to the link bridge he built and his sharing of money. Achievement wise, Alams was a big failure and the one who started the rot in Bayelsa under the current democratic dispensation.

In my opinion, Ibori was one of the best performing Governors of his time., better than Tinubu, better than Odili.

Fashola's popularity today is due to the position of Lagos as the headquarters of the Nigerian media. Some Northern governors may be better performers but the Southern media, for business reasons, would never focus on them.

Structurally,
PDP is a national party controlled by leaders from every part of the country. ACN is a semi-regional party controlled by a few powerful men.

Performance wise,
Both parties have the good and the bad but PDP with its natural spread, has more diverse groups of underperformers.

A Shehu Shema of Katsina is comparable to a Fashola of Lagos.

The title of the thread is misleading.
Calabar does not equate to Cross River state. Infact the two Calabar LGAs are among the smallest (by land mass) in the state.
Calabar is at least 4 hours from some of the places mentioned.

The only close LGA is Odukpani.

The geography of Cross River state make it prone to natural disasters occasioned by heavy rainfall. Severe erosion, flooding and minor windstorms are common.

Methinks the committee chairman has an axe to grind with the SEC DG.

His line of questioning shows he is not concerned about the dwindling fortunes of investors... I have a strong feeling the guy is just out to rubbish the SEC DG.

One funny question that was asked yesterday was how possible it is for a 1989 graduate to have attained the position of a director. In sane climes where merit is placed above mediocrity and performance is placed above tenureship, such a question wouldn't be asked.

I am very concern about ur method of payment for ur hotel reservation.did u state on ur visa application as having friends or relative in the uk?

I initially stated I had 5 friends and I was asked to state some info about them. 3 of them are students who live in the school accommodation and do not have landlines. The online application program did not allow me proceed to the next section of the application process because I couldn't provide a landline phone number. I had to delete this and stated I had only one friend (he was the ony friend with a land line).

I intend writing a detailed cover letter to explain all the areas where I had issues when completing the online application. I hope this would suffice.

I just want to attend my graduation and return to Naija. Chikena!!!

Has British embassy in Nigeria started accepting online visa application?

Yes they have. See links below

British embassy hardly conduct interviews for visa applicants, its normally paper based decision
My mistake. I scheduled an appointment thru the VFS website.

Can you list all documents you tend to submit?

Letter of intro from my employer
Letter of invitation (from the UK school )to attend the graduation ceremony
Statement of result I got from the school
Statement of (salary )
Reference letter from my bank.
six months payslip
Employment letter

Hello Justwise and ADEGBYTE,

You guys (and indeed everyone on this thread) are doing a great job. Welldone

I completed an online application for a General Visitor visa (my first visa application) some days ago and scheduled a visa appointment for the last week of March. Please I need your opinion on some concerns

1). I earn about 150k monthly (after tax) but my annual gross pay is about 3 million (I get a lumpsum payment of about 800k once in a year). I however receive extra bonuses and allowances of up to 600k. When completing the online application, i used the 150k figure as that is what i get regularly... hope this won't be an issue?

2). I intend travelling to the UK to attend my graduation ceremony ( i did one of these online degree programmes) and this coincides with my annual leave. The letter of intro I got from my employer only states that I should be on leave during the period I intend travelling. I don't intend spending up to a week in the UK cos I have some other special plans for my annual leave. I wrote in my application that my main reason for travelling is to attend my graduation.
Hope this won't affect my chances?

3). I made an hotel reservation and I got a confirmation email, I was however requested to pay for one nights accommodation. Though, I have a dollar mastercard, I couldn't pay with it as I didn't trust the payment process so I gave a friend my reservation details and he went to the hotel and paid cash for 3 nights.
The confirmation email I later got states clearly that I paid cash.
Hope this is not an issue?

4). I lent out about 400k to a sibling since August last year and he paid back about two weeks ago. This led to about 25% rise in my balance. I hope this won't be misinterpreted?

Your advise is needed so I can put measures in place to ensure the outcome of the visa interview will be positive.

Thanks.

Has British embassy in Nigeria started accepting online visa application? British embassy hardly conduct interviews for visa applicants, its normally paper based decision.

Can you list all documents you tend to submit? Please check very well about the online form you completed, i'm not sure BHC has started online visa application for Nigerians.

@Beaf,

I can confirm there was indeed a protest yesterday in Warri.

I am presently in Warri visiting family and friends and one lane of the DSC expressway was blocked yesterday by protesting youths.

I couldn't get into Edjeba (near DBS) from the expressway cos of the rowdy atmosphere.
ThinkRait: 5:02pm On Oct 23, 2011
@Beaf and Jason,

Please please stop justifying Uduaghan's failure.

I grew up in Warri and I know what Ibori did during his tenure. Uduaghan is just a waste of time.

Now I'm beginning to wish Ibori spent some more years as governor.

And please stop comparing Delta with Osun state.

Delta should be comparable only to the FCT and Rivers (forget Lagos)
ThinkRait: 9:18am On Oct 23, 2011
The current reality

The area around Effurun roundabout is overgrown with grasses.

Airport road is filled with potholes.

All the drainages in Warri are blocked.

NPA-DSC express way has many failed portions ( eg. opposite Wellington hotel)

There is a huge refuse dump along the expressway to NPA.

All d streets in Okumagba layout are filled with water satchets and dirts.

Polokor market is something else.

I can't take pictures cos I'm afraid of Uduaghan (Effurun and Itsekiri) boiz ,

Should I continue ?
ThinkRait: 7:27pm On Oct 21, 2011
All the drainage channels in Warri are blocked and there are no drainages in Asaba. So I wonder how we expect the roads to last.

I advise Engr. Igbini to mobilise his men (or get the appropriate govt agency) to clear all the drains in Warri.

Are you suggesting that the constitutional responsibility of a PDP Controlled house/senate is to impeach a government, elected by the people, because they(NASS --not the people) are simply want to do so, even when no impeachment offence has been committed?

I don't believe any one leader can accurately predict which way the people will vote in any scenario, no matter how robust the planning. The best a leader, any leader, can do is find a way to work with those who are there to get the job done, and if that is not possible . . . call on the people for help!

It is common knowledge that opposition-controlled legislatures all over the world, armtwists (or attempts to arm twist) the sitting executive.

Democracy does not necessarily deliver the best results, it delivers the results of lenghty negotiations and political arm-twisting.

My concern is that Buhari thinks he can do it alone. A PDP controlled legislature can legally frustrate his efforts. That is why I think his strategy of focusing more on winning the presidency is faulty.

As for calling on the help of the people, you and I know how docile Nigerians are. An evil politician can readily whip up religous and tribal sentiments and Nigerians would start seeing one another as enemies.

Fellow Nigerians or the high and mighty who control the police and the military.

The earlier a war breaks out in Nigeria, the faster US prophecy of Nigeria's disintegration comes to .

Lets not allow Buhari, Jonathan and the other politicians fool us.

C is a small party with practically no power except that which the ers give it ! The party does not have enough names to even take the senate or the house, if it had wanted to go for that instead.

It is really in the hands of Nigerians to decided if they will have a PDP-controlled NASS, and honestly, I hope we do not make such a mistake.

A good percentage of Nigerians, especially in the North, are not tired of PDP. The Sai Lamido, Sai Buhari episode can attest to that. IMHO, they are simply unhappy that Jonathan is attempting to take their birthright.

I would love a situation where all politicians with a taint of corruption to their names, would be flushed out irrespective of their party.

Does that imply that we take one step at a time? Should the people rise against their elected legislators for deciding to carry out a constitutional responsibility?

Shouldn't robust scenario planning and foresight be a major attribute of every leader?
ThinkRait: 1:11am On Apr 03, 2011
I don't think the statement was a slip of tongue.

Most people are not interested in the National Assembly elections. Many Nigerians don't even know the contestants.

The truth is, If this happens during the gubernatorial or presidential elections, Nigerians will not accept it. Most people will start throwing stones at GEJ and his team.
ThinkRait: 12:59am On Apr 03, 2011
One of the realisations I got from yesterday's postponed elections was the futility of the aspiration of Gen Buhari to effect meaningful change in Nigeria.

Everybody I spoke with didn't even know the name of the senatorial or house of reps member they intend voting for. They only came out to vote for whatever candidate Gov. Fashola's party presented. Someone actually asked me if Fashola was PDP or AC (please note: AC not ACN)

I assume millions of eligible voters are that ignorant.

My challenge with Gen. Buhari's aspiration is that he is only concerned about winning the Presidential elections, not really minding who wins the Governorship elections or who controls the National Assembly. With the Sai Shema, Sai Buhari shouts of the Katsina people and the Sai Wammako, Sai Buhari shouts of the Sokoto people, we can assume that one of the few seats the C may win is the presidency.

My question is: If C wins the Presidency and PDP controls both arms of the legislature, what happens to bills sent to the PDP legislature?
What can Buhari do if PDP bigwigs like IBB, Danjuma, Dangote and Obasanjo decide to incite their 'boys' to push for Impeachment of the 'intruder'?

Aside that, I have a few questions for Buhari (his NL campaigners may provide the answers if they want to)

Does Buhari have what it takes to prosecute Obasanjo and IBB?

If he does, can he honestly say Obasanjo's alleged corrupt practices started in 1999?
If no, why didn't he prosecute Obasanjo when he was head of state for 20 months?
Was he not aware of Obasanjo's forceful acquisition of vast farmlands in many states of the federation under the pretext of Operation Feed the Nation?

This is the aftermat of our mismanaged education system! Below is what the man said; the bolded explains it clearly:

That is in a state, a constituency may have the logo while another may not have it; so it is possible that your constituency has it and sm other constituencies do not have the logo on their ballot papers.

A party's logo would only appear in the ballot paper in constituencies where the party presented candidates for elections.
INEC cannot afford to include over 50 party logos in every constituency in Nigeria.

@ Topic,

I got accredited somewhere in Lagos and more than 30 persons had voted before we got the announcement.
Out of 820 persons that ed in my ward, only 170 came for accreditation: about 21% of ed voters.

With the indelible ink already applied on the right and left thumb, how does INEC hope to prevent arguments come monday?

@ Topic,

I have issues with many items in Buhari's manifesto.

They sound like the usual political statements.

Building airports in each state shouldn't even appear is the manifesto of someone contesting to be the president of a country where over 70% live on less than 2 dollars a day; a country where corruption is endemic; a country where states are created as though communal land is being shared; a country whose economy is controlled by foreigners who care less about developing the people; a country whose industrialist succeed only on government patronage or favouritism; a country whose population is insecure.

We need real change. We are tired of hearing baseless manifestoes.

If all men react before thinking, the world is doomed.

Some 5 years ago when then Vice President Atiku Abubakar visited Rivers State, Port Harcourt's best road- Aba Road- was closed. Why?
Ex- President Olusegun Obasanjo visited Rivers state about 13 times during his eight-year tenure and each visit comes with not only traffic gridlock but also fuel scarcity. Why?

Most MD/CEOs in Nigeria move around with Siren blaring security convoys. Why?
