APGA is winning in many wards in Onitsha so far. However this election leaves a lot to be desired. MANY people didnt and couldnt vote despite the fact that they had valid voters card. In many polling stations, Names like ADEKUNLE, HARUNA, WHITE, with no faces are in the . INEC is bungling this election. It might be free but doesnt look fair with many people not voting. And oh, PDP is really trying to mess things up. Despite the huge police presence, man, there are far too many menacing PDP thugs hanging around.

All these polls, opinion polls, whatever polls, the funny thing is that MOST of those voting (abi rigging it) are either not from Anambra state or not resident in Anambra state and on Saturday WILL NOT even cast their vote for anyone. Those of them that are from Anambra state do not even have valid voter's card nor do they know the name of their wards or polling booths! Those that will vote are in the villages, the streets clutching their cards, waiting to vote Peter Obi in.

Anambra: Soludo escapes mob attack
By Chukwujekwu Ilozue and Emmanuel Nzomiwu

• Keep away, elders warn Anenih, others

ment

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governorship candidate in February 6,2010 election in Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, narrowly escaped being lynched on Saturday night in Agulu where he allegedly castigated Governor Peter Obi before his [Obi’s] own people.

This is coming on the heels of serious warnings issued by elders of Anambra State to former chairman of the PDP board of Trustees, Tony Anenih and other non-indigenes of Anambra State to steer clear of the governorship poll and let Anambra people choose their governor.

Soludo had arrived St. Peter’s field, Agulu, at about 7pm and was well received by people who were eager to hear from him why they should vote for him instead of their son and brother, Governor Peter Obi.

However, when Soludo began to speak, he asked Agulu people to weep for themselves because Governor Peter Obi was not a worthy son they could be proud of. He wanted to know what Obi had done for them since he became governor. Soludo asked them to vote for him so that “light will shine on them”, and they would see the difference.

But the crowd appeared infuriated on hearing that Agulu had no son they could be proud of in Governor Obi as they began to chant war songs, saying they would follow Obi wherever he led them.

At that point, some of the youths gathered behind the podium and hauled stones and other missiles on Soludo. They also blocked the exit to the field. Sensing that Soludo was facing imminent danger, his police orderlies circled him and hauled him into his jeep. They shot into the air to scare the youths and make way for his escape as the youth were by then in frenzy.

When asked for his reaction to the incident, former President- General of Agulu Patriotic Union, Anthony Oguejiofor, said he does not encourage violence coming from anybody. But he noted that Soludo was being childish and deliberately exposed himself to danger by castigating Obi even in his own town.

“When you look at it, did Soludo do well? Other candidates have been campaigning in Agulu and there has been no incident. People want to know what the candidates will do for them if they win the election, and not a castigation of their opponents. Even if Soludo made such remarks elsewhere other than Agulu, he has no justification. Tell the people what you will do for them that is all,” he declared

Oguejiofor advised candidates to approach the campaign with decorum, and engage on politics of issues and not of name calling.

Meanwhile, elders of Anambra State under the aegis of Anambra Elders Forum have warned that they would not condone any attempt by external forces to influence the result of the February 6, 2010 election.

The elders were apparently responding to a statement credited to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), chieftain from Edo State, Tony Anenih, and saying in the media that he would not mind to change his name in order to deliver his candidate in Anambra State.

Baring the minds of the Elders in an exclusive interview with Sunday Independent, former President- General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Acting Chairman of the Forum, Dr. Dozie Ikedife said that it sounds “inimical and criminal” for somebody from Edo State to change his name in order to influence the outcome of an election in Anambra State.

Ikedife, who reiterated the elders resolve to seek observer status for the February poll, noted that such an utterance did not bear any form of civility and therefore advised politicians in the country to play the game within their various constituencies.

According to him, there are many individuals in the race and many aspirants who are anxious to become governor of the state following the election of 2010, but only one person would be the governor.

His words: “The individuals may have their wishes but you know that God can’t grant the same wish to so many people. It will be one person at the end of the day. But what is uppermost in my mind is that we try to clean up the act of election rigging in Nigeria, starting with Anambra State. That is to say, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will do its duty and do it cleanly. The electorate will be given opportunity to cast their votes and the votes counted. If that is what we do for development of democracy in Nigeria, then I think that we should have contributed sufficiently and significantly.

“Then the candidates, some are good, some are better. Looking at their antecedents for example, Ngige is there, Ngige did very well when he was there as Governor. Peter Obi is doing well. There is need for continuity between these two gentlemen and perhaps the lady (Uche Ekwunife) and Charles Soludo, Andy Uba and Nicholas Ukachukwu, Nwosu, good luck to all of them.

“But people should play within their constituencies. For somebody to come from Edo State and want to change his name in other to change the result of the election, I think it is criminal, it is inimical. It is certainly not the civilized way. You want to change your name to influence the result as if the people in the state can’t write their names, they can’t make their choice.

“This meddlesomeness should be stopped. I seize this opportunity to warn people who are not from the state to keep away from the State politics. Rather than saying you want to change your name to influence the outcome of an election, it is unnecessary provocation, it is meddlesomeness, and it is unnecessary stirring the waters of Nigerian politics. Such people should be warned,” Ikedife stated.

Ikedife insisted that if INEC plays its role, the chances of people going to private houses to write election results would be minimized, stressing that INEC should ensure that voters is displayed so that people know where they should vote and voting materials made available where they are wanted and on time and the personnel are there, fully equipped to do what they should do.

This Soludo man is too arrogant. How dare he come to someone's backyard to insult him. I believe he will get the shock of his life on Feb 6th. Hopeless con man

For me, its Peter Obi of Anambra State. Given the bottom pit Anambra state has been and the level of infrastructure, roads, hospitals, the number of schools fixed, and the FACT (if you doubt this, come to Anambra state and tour the towns and villages) that anambra state bar Abuja, has the BEST network of roads in Nigeria.

Enugu state is just Enugu city that is seeing good things. Lagos has been the Federal Capital and has solid structures for sustainable growth. And both of them have the Majority of their legislators in the same party

In Anambra state, Until Ngige did some roads, nothing good had happened since Ukpabi Asika Regime in the 70s. And to perform with the PDP hawks around, is so amazing.

Almost every village has at least one Good tarred road (177 villages!), primary health care center.

Compared to what is coming in and what the man is doing, i will give it to him anyday. Though he can certainly do better in his next tenure
themano: 11:15am On Nov 29, 2009
@Mikeansy, first of all i can posit here that you dont live in Anambra State. So obviously all you know about the state come from hearsay and news media. To infer that the Present Governor is only collecting allocations and paying salaries is the biggest crap to spill here. Good managers of resources are those that are able to do much with the little they are given and not those that are waiting to borrow millions to show what they can do. You can refer to the parable of the talents by our Lord Jesus Christ to know more about this (Today is Sunday).
Its not by how much you borrow to satiate fanciful, fantasy projects that will make anyone a great leader. Take a cue from most of Scandinavian countries if you want to lecture us about debts. There are sensible and sensless debts. Soludo's debts will become sensless. See what Soludo will borrow money to do

"Sir Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu International Airport (a public-private partnership with Anambra Airline taking Anambra to the world, and bringing the world to Anambra)
Anambra Shopping World (biggest shopping mall in Africa)
Anambra Wonder Gardens (tourism and entertainment)
The Nollywood Studios"

He is really a hopeless theorist. Talk is cheap. Talk na do.
themano: 9:52pm On Nov 28, 2009
@Mikeansy, there are good dreams and there are bad dreams. Soludo's dreams are dangerously bad dreams, that will plunge Anambra state into disaster. Do you know what it took nigeria to pay off our debts. Have you noticed that a lot of states are no longer able to even fund recurrent expenditures not to talk of taking on capital projects and most of them are in massive debts. Bros, what Anambra state needs now is a balanced, realistic manager of resources and not some day dreaming fanciful talking theorist. Soludo is a daydreamer. Let him turn his Isuanioma autonomous community first into a Dubai, then his Aguata Local Government, before turning Anambra.
themano: 9:46pm On Nov 28, 2009
@Papebrowne, You must be living a borrowed life if that is your preference. You borrow to buy a car, borrow to build your house, borrow to marry, borrow to pay school fees, and you try to show off to people that you are affluent. Only for debtors to come knocking one day. Guess what will happen to your cars, houses and stuff. Is that life?

Please forget your campaigns for Soludo. I know for sure he aint winning nothing. He is a fake dreaming con man.
themano: 8:30am On Nov 28, 2009
Soludo, Soludo!, Soludo!!

This is the type of mess you want to plunge anambra state into. Find another masterstroke because it wont fly.

Dubai my foot. Skylines, Shopping malls, blah blah, all on borrowed monies without organic growth and strong foundations. Reminds me of Transcorp. Fake
themano: 8:11am On Nov 28, 2009
We are waiting for him to tell us. The real man Peter Obi has told us how he will get his own for his Master plan and is not owing any body a dime, despite the massive achievements he's had.

Paddy_lo oh pls! Did you see the Soludo manifesto

Anambra Shopping World (biggest shopping mall in Africa)
Anambra Wonder Gardens (tourism and entertainment)
The Nollywood Studios
Bla bla

These are fanciful private sector initiatives that he wants to undertake by borrowing funds. We already have the largest Markets in West Africa in Onitsha and he wants to build largest Mall. Is Mall our problem now in Anambra sate.
He is talking of Skylines in Onitsha and sounding Dubaish in all his talk

The man is a theorist. Simple. He will put us in massive debts for generations to come and wont even reduce poverty levels. He is not the man. See the realistic man below.

@Papebrowne and all the Soludo dreamers, see below

http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=160862

Dubai has crashed the world's stocks and are in massive debts that will surely bring them to trouble. This is the kind of mess you want Soludo to plunge anambra state into. Anyway, most of you are kids and dont have big business experience. Even Soludo has NO business experience (which company has he successfully run?).

May the Good lord never allow this con man and dreamer to smell Anambra state government house Awka. He can go to Dubai and continue his dreams there
themano: 11:40pm On Nov 24, 2009
"Ours is a grand vision and a plan for sustainable prosperity. Within the first 90 days of assumption of office, our istration will organize development study tours of Dubai, Taiwan, and Singapore for selected Government officials, State Assembly, Judiciary, organized private sector, labour, media, clergy, traditional rulers, and academia. The goal is to understand what it takes to build and manage modern, prosperous cities. Within the same period, we would organize the “Anambra 2020 Summit” to harness the contributions of all Anambra people, other knowledgeable Nigerians and our international partners towards the “Anambra Solution 2020”." - Chukwuma Soludo!

@papebrowne, you must be Soludo's campaign hirling or something, to be cheering for this type of trash. The man has no vision. He wants to tour dubai, taiwan and singapore with everyone in anambra state for 90days on a jamboree and you are excited.
Thereafter he will do another jamboree and talkshop called Anambra 2020 summit, and you are excited. By the time he is through, touring dubai and doing summits, 4 years would have ed on and wasted.

Its folks like you that have made nigeria perpetually in bondage, because the leaders know how to manipulate and keep you in perpetuall awe. This con man Soludo has nothing to offer. He is just a fantasy dreamer.

Does this write have a horse in the race too? You guys dont know this man yet.

"'Marketers of the Soludo candidacy were on television the other week and submitted that their principal, and now candidate, was actually on his way to Harvard to take up a teaching appointment when he was importuned or, to be quite exact, begged to come and become the PDP candidate for Anambra State. He was compared with the other candidates who were described as illiterate and unexposed. Soludo is (correctly) said to be very brilliant and such a hot sell all over the planet. One personal inference from this is that people should follow the man about with a fire extinguisher, since he is very hot. But the actual inference of the speakers was that Anambra people should be grateful that he is condescending to allow them elect him as their Governor. And that is the problem, or at least part of it. Superiority complex is the greatest danger in leadership, politics, group mobilization and networking. Soludo needs to come closer to reality (ka awuo ya ukwu na ani, ka okwulu chim!). His close associates must manage him better, or hand him over to physicians who can at least ameliorate his allegedly incurable love for only his own ideas, lest he ruin himself and the ticket of their party. Fortunately, very fortunately for him, his running mate has his two feet on political terra firma. That is if Soludo allows him any role at all. But back to the question of the ijeleness of an Ijele for Anambra State."
