President of Rwanda Major General Paul Kagame has reportedly ordered for the immediate deportation of 18 Chinese nationals who are said to investors who were allegedly mistreating their Rwandan employees.
Kagame, well known for his uncompromising stand on a number of socio-political issues, came down hard on the so-called investors as he booted them out of the country.
“The 18 investors were found guilty of mistreating Rwandan workers and grabbing land on which they operated their business,” Kagame reportedly said as he gave the deportation order.
“Chinese investors exploited Rwandan people and also took advantage of them by making them work abnormal hours like slaves. Africa is for Africans. We can't be slaves in Africa. We don't tolerate the nonsense of discrimination here," Kagame added.
China and Rwanda have strong bilateral ties which are inextricably linked to the shared benefits of trade, aid and investments between the two countries.
According to data released by the Rwanda Development Board, 24 more companies from China were ed in Rwanda in 2020, bringing in investments totaling 300 million U.S. dollars. These investments are in the sectors of construction and real estate, mining, ICT, manufacturing and hospitality.
However, according to our sources, Kagame is a patriotic leader who refuses to allow such relations to cloud his judgment.
"Rwanda is for Africans and those who mean well for us. I am directing the 18 Chinese investors to leave Rwanda immediately and must never return back. Rwandan people must enjoy their rights in their country. Let this be a lesson to the remaining Chinese investors," Kagame warned.
The alleged mistreatment of Rwandans by Chinese investors will probably take a downward turn thanks to this deportation order, and the potential for more of the same.
As the national convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is underway, former Senate President, Ken Nnamani and two other presidential aspirants have stepped down for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
APC chieftain and Chairman, Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Kabiru Gaya, disclosed this while briefing Channels Television on Tuesday in Abuja.
Although he didn’t mention who the other aspirants are, there are speculations that they are ex-Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun, and a Deputy Majority Leader of the Senate, Ajayi Boroffice.
Noting that the ruling party has decided to zone the presidential slot to the South-West region, he stated that the aspirants are expected to address the delegates shortly.
“We have Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Bola Tinubu; it comes down to the South-West. I’m aware that a few aspirants have stepped down for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. They are Ken Nnamani and two others. I think that will be announced later,” he stated.
“Whatever the number the party decides; it is up for because the people need to come and address the party and tell them if they are stepping down, why are they stepping down, and for who. If they are not stepping down, let them tell Nigerians what they intend to do to improve the situation in the governance of Nigeria.”
The Chairman, Senate committee on INEC, Kabiru Gaya, briefs Channels Television on the update of the APC National Convention in Abuja on June 7, 2022.
According to Gaya, the APC took its decision to give its presidential ticket to the southern region in the spirit of equity and justice.
He believes that the ruling party has sent a signal to Nigerians that it is not a regional or sectional association but one that is meant for all the masses.
“In principle, we have President Buhari from northern Nigeria that is serving seven years going to eight years; I think naturally, the power should shift to the south. That is what we have been talking about for over two years. I believe that Nigerians will believe that APC is the party for all. It is not a sectional or regional party.
“In any decision you take, it has merits and demerits. When the merits are more, then you say ‘we’, that is the majority. So, the majority of Nigerians accept that let the leadership of the presidency of APC or Nigeria go to the south and we all agreed to that,” the lawmaker said
BoltAndUberAbj:
Bolt will ask their drivers for every single form of ID in this country, from BVN to National ID, driver’s license, port photograph. But to be a enger/rider all you need is just a SIM card.
So many drivers have been killed because of this lapses.
It is this path that annoys me the most. Why can't they profile riders?
Lanrelagboi:
As the APC primaries draws close, politics gets more interesting.
Note that the Igub state governor, Dapo Abiodun s Vice President Osinbajo but seems Lagos West Senator and Ogun West Senatorial district candidate, Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola has better ideas though
