When other nationalities say there’s nothing good about Nigerians, we’ll revile them thoroughly but here we are not seeing any advantage of being a Nigerian. @OP: Just one very good thing I have noticed about average Nigerians, we are very very confident. Here you will see a Naija man defending the CV of 5-10yrs working experience and will talk their way through an interview. They’ll be learning the job while getting paid for it once employed without their employer knowing he has never done it before. And I’m talking of a job paying up to £300 to £600 a day, not just ordinary cleaning job. We have balls, we are very smart and most of us have ‘can do attitudes’ and that’s why you see Naija illegal immigrant working in the Home Office or as a security officer in Downing St. I think all these take guts and ability to survive under any circumstances. There’s no doubt we have our bad sides too but I’m a very proud Nigerian. |

What's the definition of an icon? There's a difference between icon and role model. In your book, is Bob Marley an icon? Think we should learn to appreciate one of ours. He's more popular outside Nigeria than many of your supposed role model Nigerians. Yes, he's definitely a Nigerian icon. |

Tipping is a choice and not a must. Tipping is more appreciated in Nigeria than abroad though because next time you are there for the same or another service, you will be recognised and probably be given a better and a prompt service. From bars, restaurants, supermarkets, banks and even barbing salons, it’s more like ‘egunje’ anyway. If you tip a cashier in the bank, trust me, you won’t have to that long queue on Fridays again next time you are back there, lol. While in abroad, I don’t really think they give a damn about the last tip you gave because it doesn’t go directly to the person that serves you. They all share it at the end of the shift or it sometimes goes to the management. They are not allowed to ‘pocket’ the money like Naija but I still do give sha, depends on my mood. Some of the bartenders can be dodgy too, sometimes in the club or restaurant when they know you’ve had few drinks, they’ll handover the payment terminal to you with the option of adding tip amount before you enter your pin, that’s ridiculous and it’s a deal breaker for me, I won’t add a dime to it. @ AjanleKoko, that wagamama terminal is actually optional, you don’t really have to see that option but the waiter just want to trick you into tipping, lol In a nutshell, tips in Naija will go a long way while tips in abroad doesn’t really count as much. Just my opinion though. And I rarely go to a restaurant or bar without tipping either in Naija or abroad except the service was really bad. And I totally disagreed with Javalove, there are many places you will go in Naija with very good customer services and you will be impressed to even give some tips. Customers are king to some businesses in Naija too o, not just in Addis Ababa, lol |

Googler: Spot on!!! I think you can clearly see one of the problems we have in this country from the responses in this thread. We can't see beyond our noses. There's no doubt that Mr Fashola is doing a great job but there are thousands if not millions of ordinary Nigerian citizens with similar problem that requires the same or similar help. It would have been much easier for this celebrity to raise that money than ordinary Nigeria citizen. I still dont believe it's a money well spent though even though I'm a huge Fashola's fan. |

Rehab shouldn't be scary and it depends on what part of the world you are. Getting professional help is the best way for you but I think you can do yourself a favour by gradually cutting it down and improve on your diet. I think the fact you are trying to cut it out at once is making it difficult. Maybe instead of going 3 straight days with none, you should reduce it gradually. As you are talking of starting a family, I think your partner can be of help to you too, because it sometimes takes two to get over an addiction and the good thing is that you are not taking any pleasure from it anymore and I’m sure will be willing to help if approached realistically. Best of luck |

This Vincent guy is just plainly stupid and I think he believes he's untouchable and to some extent, he is. With good lawyer, he's not going to be deported because of his situation and the years he's been in the country. He's is automatically qualify for indefinite stay because of the years he's been here but with all his criminal records, that will be difficult. I think stopping ALL his disability benefits will put some sense in his head! I still cant believe we are talking about a Nigerian man of 40yrs old here! What's he thinking? |

What happened to your confidence? I'm sure you have watched the Phat Girls film, it's fiction tho but then you really can't get anything done successfully with self-pity attitude. I personally even think there are more white fat peoples in London than blacks. Been fat is not an excuse for not been in a relationship because even the white skinny girls are also struggling and that’s a FACT! There are many guys out there that still wont go for skinny girls! Someone is out there that will take you for who you are! |

You need to be very careful, it's difficult to manage any business from abroad except the one you have established yourself and you have bunch of trusted staff and you know all the loopholes in the business so that you will always know what the business will give you in the worst day, week or month. Good luck! |

ifyalways:Hello u ![]() @poster-Yes, I was able to meet and speak with few guys from here while I was in Nigeria. The fact still remains the same, it's a very good business but as everyone mentioned, it's also very risky no doubt about that but I will advise anyone reading this that, don't give your truck(s) to individuals if you are not going to be on ground yourself. (no matter how much they sweet-talk you).Although there are some small companies that manages one or two trucks, I still considered them to be individual as they are not well established. You need to mitigate the risk and put a contingency plan in place, so 'No Individuals' was number one on my own risk list, yours might be different because the level of risks we are all willing to take is not the same. A good established company is what I mean in this case, companies like, Coca-Cola, BUA, Guinness, DHL or Cadbury. I was able to visit these companies and their and conditions varies and it now depends on what you actually want. Some of these companies will take just the truck head from you but then, the minimum required in some cases might be 5 trucks but BUA and DHL is likely to take one from you but please try and go there yourself to this as I think who you speak to in the company matters. They'll pay you what you agreed on and these companies cannot disappeared from Nigeria because of one or ten trucks that you will give them, that’s the difference between small companies with no recognized name and an established ones. One mistake that I made that you guys might want to avoid is, I bought two trucks without having much idea what jobs they’ll be doing when they get down to Nigeria. That slowed things down for me a little bit but thank goodness, I bought one of them with a tipping bucket trailer. If you are planning to go into this business, do your home work thoroughly because there are many sectors in haulage and they are all very good sectors but it depends on what s you have in each sector and again, the level of risk you are willing to take. You need to know which trailer you will need to buy with your truck because sometimes the trailers can be more expensive than the actual truck, building or buying a 33,000 liters tanker is more expensive than the truck. Also, you can easily buy a flatbed or box trailer with your truck and load it with some things before you ship it down to Lagos instead of looking to buy or hire one in Nigeria. Insurance is very important, I don’t know how to emphasize on that more but you don’t want to put your whole savings on the road in Nigeria without insuring it. And so is Goods-In-Transit insurance. In my own case, I’m going back to Naija again next week and I’ll definitely keep you guys updated. In theory, it’s looking good but keep fingers crossed for me o ![]() |
