http://www.sportthesis.com/2017/06/can-eagles-fly.html?m=1 As the Super Eagles of Nigeria gets set to do battle with the Bafana Bafana of South Africa and the Indomitable lions of Cameroon in a crucial Nations and world cup qualifying matches on the 10th of june at the Akpabio Stadium in Uyo and August respectively. The question on the lips of soccer loving Nigerians is if we truly have a team strong enough to subdue the roaring lions from Cameroon who are the 2017 Afcon champions? And also the Bafana Bafana who denied us the qualifying ticket to the 2015 Nations cup held in Equatorial Guinea. Only recently the Super Eagles played out an inspiring 1-1 draw against the Teranga Lions of Senegal in a friendly match in March followed by an Uninspiring 1-1 draw against Corsica in May. The head coach of the Eagles Gernot Rorh in his post match conference 'said the Senegalese has given his players an idea of what to expect from Cameroon. The international friendly was also a valuable opportunity for Rorh to introduce two strikers to the squad, with Isaac Success and Olarenwaju Kayode making their international bows. Success and Kayode might have played for 29 and 14 minutes respectively their debut performances against Senegal was quite encouraging. The Cameroonians will be high on confidence having triumphed at the recent 2017 African cup of nations tournament. They will be banking on the firing power of Vincent Aboubakar and Afcon 2017 MVP Christian Bassogog to reproduce their Afcon heroics to propel them to victory. But with Bassogog's recent move to the money spinning Chinese Super League, doubts has been cast about his form as many believe the League is not competitive enough, it is left to be seen if he can produce the spark that endeared him to heart of football fans. The Cameroonians will have the golden opportunity of a summer engagement at the Fifa Confederations cup come June 2017 and they will be taking on world class teams like Chile, and Australia in the group phase. these matches will provide the team with a stern test and also increase their confidence for the Match against the Super Eagles. In a move to make the Eagles competitive the NFF arranged a camping exercise last month in ahead of Matches against South Africa and Cameroon coupled with the previous encounter against the Senegalese and Corsica in March and May respectively. it hoped the Eagles will be in the right fix for the double headers. The plight of Nigerian players of late in their various club sides has been worrisome as they've been churning out inconsistent displays and finding game times hard to come by. Even those who are perceived to be our best legs are having it rough at their clubs. Alex Iwobi who was before now a regular at Arsenal struggled for game time towards the end of the Season. Kelechi Iheanacho who used to be a jewel at Manchester City and a regular fixture was confined to the bench having to make do with cameo appearances. Ahmed Musa was also snubbed by Leicester City's new boss Craig Shakespeare, our first choice goalie Carl Ikeme is presently out injured, the other goalkeepers Akpeyi, Ezenwa and Alampasu are not reliable enough. The recent sojourn of our first team players, captain Obi Mikel, Odion Ighalo and Brown Ideye to money bugging Chinese League hasn't gone down well with Nigerians as they feel the League is less competitive and may hamper their form and by so doing affect the nation's qualification aspirations. Our defenders themselves did not have the best of times at their various club sides, FSV Mainz defender Leon Balogun struggled for game time since his return from injury, new defence trojan William Troost Ekong was sparringly used by Gent, left back Elderson Echiejile has been inconsistent since his loan move to Sporting Gijon in La Liga. But at the end of the tunnel there's always light and light in this sense can be visible from the performances of some other Super Eagles players. A player most worthy of mentioning is Victor Moses the Chelsea fc of England player has had a resurgence under new coach Antonio Conte as has been very impressive in his new found wing back role for the blues, churning out superlative performances week in week out in the EPL, winning the Premier League title and earning rave review from football greats turned pundits Jamie Carragher and Garry Neville. Another player who has caught the eye is Leicester City's new boy Wilfred Ndidi, since his winter move has been impressive and has brought the much needed stability since the departure of Ngolo Kante to Chelsea, And he has often been dubbed the new N'golo Kante. Moses Simon, Olarenwaju Kayode and Portland Timber 's Fernando Adi who has been painting MLS with goals are some of the players who performances are worthy of mentioning, Ogenyi Onazi and Kenneth Omeruo had good spells for Trabzonspor and Alanyaspor respectively in the Turkish league. The National team is a different ball game entirely as dedication and commitment on the part of the players will be key to Success, having started the World cup qualifiers on a strong foot with six point garnered from two matches played and sitting comfortable at the summit of the group standings the Eagles can only draw positives from their victories over the Chipolopolo of Zambia and the fiery foxes of Algeria and they'll hope to replicate the performances against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon. Rorh and his charges should not afford to rest on their laurels Anything less than three point will suddenly blow the world cup group wide open and also in the Nations cup qualifier against the South Africans only a victory will put us in good stead of qualifying as we can't afford to miss out on a third time.

http://www.sportthesis.com/2017/05/epic-uefa-champions-league-final.html?m=1 Millennium stadium Cardiff Wales is the Venue, June 3rd is the date and history will be in sight when two giants of European football clash for the most glamorous prize on the continent. Can Real Madrid C.F defend the title or will Juventus win the UEFA Champions league for the first time in 21 years? No team has ever succeeded in defending the coveted trophy and Real Madrid are seeking to be first side to break the jinx while Juventus will be aiming to win their third European Champions Cup/UEFA Champions league trophy having lifted it 1985 and 1996. One man who will be eager to taste victory is Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, widely regarded as one of the finest goalkeeper to grace the round leather game. it is hard to believe the shot stopper has never won the biggest prize in European club football, He has suffered heartbreak on two occasions in the final against AC Milan in 2003 and Barcelona in 2015, Buffon will be hoping to erase the painful memory of both occasions. Real Madrid are unarguably the most successful European club side while Juventus has been the most unluckiest in European cup competitions loosing six finals. Both teams will be high on confidence based on current form with Juventus sealing the SERIA A title and also boasting of the best defensive record in this season's competition conceding just three times in their run to the final. Madrid have just clinched the La Liga title at the expense of Barcelona their first since 2012. Real Madrid will be banking on the resurgence of their prolific talisman Cristiano Ronaldo to propel them to victory. Ronaldo had a relatively quiet start to Madrid's bid for a 12th European cup triumph, netting just twice in six group-stage appearances but he has made amends in the knockout stage scoring an impressive 8 goals in four matches against Bayern Munich and Athletico Madrid and Real will be hoping he can replicate such form in the final against a very stingy Juve defence. Juventus are not short of quality either, In Paulo Dybala they have a player capable of winning matches for them. Dybala was very instrumental in the defeat of Barcelona scoring twice in the first leg. The 23 year old forward has been likened to a young Iionel Messi and it was easy to see why he smashed two goals just inside 22 minutes at the Juventus stadium and made Gerard Pique look rather silly. Juve will also be banking on the ever reliant Dani Alves who has never lost a UEFA Champions League Final while at Barcelona. this Juve side looks a lot more stronger and balanced than the side that lost to Barcelona in the 2015 final. Samir Khedira and Miralem Pjanic have formed a strong midfield partnership, Juan Cuadrado and Mario Manzukic are playing through their skin at the moment attacking as well tracking back to offer defensive , Gonzalo Higuain has been banging in goals since his purchase and he will be hoping to overcome his travail of misfiring in major finals most especially with the Argentine National team. Giorgio Chiellini, Mehdi Benatia, Leonardo Bonucci and Alex Sandro are marshalling the defence well and their record is proof, old warhorse Buffon is always a stumbling block for oppositions. With all this in place Juventus are well equipped to claim victory. Real Madrid is always an explosive team to play against and of course they won't be an easy nut to crack, the team remain unchanged from the side that conquered Athletico Madrid in last season's final so they have that element of continuity, consistency and experience going for them, the trio of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casmeiro are always capable of dictating play from the midfield. they have efficient full backs in Carvajal and Marcelo they are both dangerous on the flanks providing assists for their front men, and when it comes to goal scoring no defender does it better than Sergio Ramos, the defender has always proven to be the man for big occasions, scoring vital goals when it matters most. In the world of football today hardly will you find a team that possess the quality of the Real Madrid bench, Alvaro Morata, Isco, Asensio and James Rodriguez are players capable of walking into the first eleven of any team, yet they warm the substitute bench of Real Madrid but this players have all been impressive whenever they are been called upon. Isco is even touted to play ahead of Bale in the final, the Welshman has been ravaged by injuries and has also been struggling for form this season. Real are vulnerable at times at the back conceding cheeky goals with goalkeeper Keylor Navas the major culprit, Madrid need to work on this as Juventus will be looking to take advantage of their defensive frailties. The game will be very explosive and highly intensive, it's a 50- 50 chance for both sides and it promises to be one of those Glorious nights of European club football.

Kristina Mladenovic reached the third round with a comfortable 6-2 6-3 win against Sara Errani of Italy. Defending French Open champion Garbine Muguruza survived a scare to beat world number 99 Anett Kontaveit The women's draw is wide open, especially after world number one Angelique Kerber and British hope Johanna Konta went out in round one. In the men's draw, another home favourite, 12th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, was given only the briefest of reprieves as he lost 7-5 6-4 6-7 6-8 6-4 to Argentine Renzo Olivo . The match was postponed from Tuesday because of bad light and Olivo needed only one game to turn his overnight advantage into victory. He will now play Briton Kyle Edmund in the second round. Austrian sixth seed Dominic Thiem was broken just once in a 7-5 6-1 6-3 win over Italian Simone Bolelli. Bulgaria's 11th seed Grigor Dimitrov is also through after beating Spain's Tommy Robredo 6-3 6-4 7-5. Nine-time winner Rafael Nadal and defending champion Novak Djokovic both won in straight sets to reach the third round at the French Open. Nadal, the fourth seed from Spain, looked at his very best in outclassing Dutchman Robin Haase 6-1 6-4 6-3 in under two hours. Serbia's Djokovic, the second seed, beat Portugal's Joao Sousa 6-1 6-4 6-3 in two hours and seven minutes. Nadal and Djokovic are seeded to meet in the semi-finals. Djokovic, a 12-time Grand Slam winner, goes on to face Argentine Diego Schwartzman while 14-time Grand Slam champion Nadal takes on Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia. Eight-time Grand Slam champion Andre Agassi watched Djokovic once again, having taken over as the 30-year-old's coach on a temporary basis.
