Education: Abiodun Appoints Best Unilag Graduates Education Ambassadors, Gifts Them N20m. Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has appointed Messrs Samuel Badekale and Haroun Adebakin, who emerged as the best graduating students of the University of Lagos during the institution's 55th convocation, as the Education Ambassadors of the State. The governor also presented them with cheques of N10m each to appreciate their efforts. Speaking while receiving the duo in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the governor said that by scoring a Grade Point Average of 5.0, they not only made the state proud but also set themselves on the path of greatness. According to the governor, his istration would continue to honor individuals who made the state proud in their chosen careers to serve as motivation for others to discover their full potential. He said: "I want to commend you for achieving this great honor for yourselves, your families, the state, and Nigeria, because it is not enough that you come from Ogun State and are flying Ogun State's flag. "We are going to appoint you as our Education Ambassadors. It is our hope that other up-and-coming students, those who are still in school, will see you and find motivation in you, allowing them to emulate your good virtues. "You have to think about how you can and motivate them. As our Education Ambassadors, we are going to develop programs where you can actually go to schools and talk to them because it will be easier for you to communicate with them. "I can talk to them, but I may not be able to communicate with them effectively. However, when you speak to them, you will be able to connect because they can identify with you as you are of the same wavelength and age bracket, and you can relate to what they are going through, including their pains and issues. "I congratulate you as our Education Ambassadors, and I don't want you to be too far away from the Commissioner for Education so that whatever career path you choose, we can you in achieving your potential and all that you aspire to. "But today, we will be ing you with small cheques of N10m each—just a token of our appreciation to you and your parents for what you have accomplished in making Ogun State proud." Governor Abiodun expressed delight that despite the decadence in society, some young men and women remain committed, deliberate, diligent, and intentional about their academics by choosing the right path as a means of emancipation. The governor, who described education as a pathway to success and a means to eradicate poverty, said it provides respect and a platform upon which one can build to become successful in life. "It gives you the platform and port that allows you to apply for different opportunities, whether job opportunities, master's programs, among others. It is what helps you in the process of determination," he added. He noted that their academic success was beyond the ordinary, as their perseverance, consistency, and discipline have helped them achieve the targets they set for themselves. "You set a target for yourselves and decided that you would not settle for second place but strive for the very best. I must say that this is the Ogun State spirit, and I am not surprised that both of you, in the same year and department, studied the same Cell Biology and Genetics. You have both chosen to pursue a very abstract discipline that requires a lot of intellect, and you have not just excelled, but excelled very well. You graduated with a 5.0, the top of your class," he said. Ogun State, the governor noted, is blessed with eminent personalities who have excelled in their chosen professions. "This is the blood that flows in you. I am impressed and excited that you are living up to expectations," he added. He mentioned that his istration has repositioned the education sector by introducing various reforms, such as the Revitalization Agenda with a learner identification system, adding that the state has a Learner Identification Number that keeps track of the number of students, a development which he said has attracted attention from other states of the federation. He lauded the parents of the best graduating students for the values instilled in their children and the sacrifices they made to ensure they are educated, emphasizing that their reward would be the success of their children. Speaking, Adebakin and Badekale expressed their gratitude to the governor for the honor bestowed upon them, stating that their recognition is a testament to the governor's commitment to improving the education sector in the state. They advised the youth to focus on their studies and shun activities that could tarnish their family names, saying, "You can be successful and recognized without engaging in fraud and other unwholesome practices, just as we are being celebrated today by the governor."

The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has described the ing of Dr. Adedoyin Ajibike Okupe, popularly known as Dr. Doyin Okupe, at the age of 72, as a profound personal loss. Okupe's ing came shortly after the demise of another revered figure, the Alaperu of Iperu Remo, Oba Adeleke Idowu-Basibo. Governor Abiodun paid tribute to Dr. Okupe’s lifelong service to Nigeria, noting that he remained a patriotic statesman and a committed member of the progressive political family until his final moments. Reflecting on Dr. Okupe’s ing, Governor Abiodun expressed his deep sorrow. He said: “Receiving the news of the ing of my elder brother, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has left me with a profound sense of personal loss, especially coming so soon after the transition of the Alaperu of Iperu Remo, Oba Adeleke Idowu-Basibo. Without a doubt, Dr. Okupe’s departure leaves a void that will not be easily filled. "Beyond his political and professional engagements, Dr. Okupe was an affable, easy-going, and principled individual who, despite never flaunting his credentials, played a significant role in Nigeria’s resistance to military rule. Like many other democracy advocates, he endured detention and persecution under military regimes, standing firm in his convictions." Governor Abiodun acknowledged Dr. Okupe’s fluid political journey, emphasizing that while his affiliations changed over time, his relationships with family, friends, and associates remained intact. He said: "Although he shifted political alliances as situations evolved, aligning with the National Republican Convention (NRC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Accord Party, and the Labour Party, he never severed ties with his friends across political platforms. Even after the 2023 general election, he openly ired and aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s progressive vision.” An accomplished politician and strategist, Dr. Okupe co-founded the Royal Cross Medical Centre and held key political positions, including National Publicity Secretary of the National Republican Convention (NRC), Special Assistant to President Olusegun Obasanjo, Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan, and Publicist for Senator Bukola Saraki and Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Governor Abiodun noted that Dr. Okupe’s service in these diverse roles reflected his deep love for Nigeria and its people. “Okupe was one of those rare politicians who could disagree without being disagreeable. He never used foul language, always remained respectful in discourse, and was quick to acknowledge his mistakes while bowing to superior arguments. Humility was his defining trait. "Although he trained as a medical doctor, Dr. Okupe excelled in media and political communications, serving as a spokesperson for various istrations. His writing and public speaking skills were exceptional, making him an influential voice in national discourse. His ion for journalism even led him to establish his own media outfit, further cementing his role as a thought leader in political communication," he added. **A Life Well Lived:** Born on March 22, 1952, in Iperu Kingdom, Ogun State, Dr. Okupe had an illustrious academic and professional career. He attended St. Jude’s School, Ebute Metta, Lagos, Igbobi College, Yaba, Lagos, and the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, where he trained as a medical doctor. He worked in both public and private hospitals, including St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos, before founding Royal Cross Medical Centre (also known as Royal Cross Hospital) in Obalende, Lagos, where he served as Managing Director (MD). "Even in his later years, while battling health challenges, Dr. Okupe remained unwavering in his advocacy for a better Nigeria. Even as he faced health struggles and the frailties of age, Okupe never stopped championing the cause of national development. His voice will be deeply missed. "Dr. Doyin Okupe’s dedication to public service, political strategy, and media communication will continue to inspire future generations. His contributions to Nigeria’s political landscape remain indelible, and his legacy as a patriot, statesman, and media strategist will be cherished. “It is my sincere prayer that Almighty God grants his family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. Adieu, dear brother. May your soul rest in eternal peace. Amen," Governor Abiodun said.

He also acknowledged the exemplary leadership of Chief Obasanjo in the vineyard of God, describing him as a pragmatic community leader. Governor Abiodun added that his istration would continue to be inspired by the achievements and legacies of the former President. "History will continue to be kind to you because the story of Nigeria and your story is closely and intimately intertwined, and the name Olusegun Aremu Okikiola Obasanjo will remain indelibly entrenched in the minds of so many generations to come. "Beyond your successful career in the military, you've continued to demonstrate that you are a true patriot, a leader who is irrevocably devoted to the advancement of Nigeria. "Your resilience, your vision, and your relentless pursuit of excellence continue to showcase you as a statesman, an advocate for peace, security, and development. Your legacy, without a doubt, extends beyond Nigeria and Africa," he said. Our istration Has Constructed Over 1000km of Road-Abiodun ....commissions 3.12km Oke-Erinja-Ilobi road, promises to award Sango-Ijoko-Akute road this week The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on Tuesday said his istration has constructed about 1000km of roads since its inception in 2019. He spoke at the commissioning of the 3.12 kilometers Oke-Erinja-Ilobi road in Yewa South Local Government Area of the state, even as he promised to ensure the completion of the road all the way to Ilobi. The project, according to the governor, marks another historic moment in the trajectory and journey of the development of the state, noting that the road is a pathway to progress and economic development that will enhance the quality of life of the Erinja and Ilobi community. "We have underscored our commitment as a government not just to urban renewal, not just focusing on reconstructing urban roads alone. It is very easy to construct urban roads, but it takes a far-sighted istration to conceive the construction of rural roads. "It takes a far-sighted istration to appreciate the fact that the food supply chain starts from the rural areas. Our rural communities are our food basket; that is where we have our farmlands. "Ogun State is about 17,000 square kilometers, out of which 12,000 square kilometers of land is arable, and our people are farmers. "How do we unlock their potentials? How do we ensure that we achieve food security if we don't ensure that we construct these roads that connect our farmers from the rural areas to the market? And that is exactly what we have done. "The Ilobi and Oke-Erinja areas are among our food baskets in the state, and today we have prioritized the construction of their roads. "It was not intentional to stop the road at Oke-Erinja. I have heard many times that the Erinja and Ilobi people are like Siamese twins, and I will not separate them. "So, let me assure you, we will complete that road to Ilobi; we will ensure the road ends at Ilobi," he said. The Governor also noted that his istration would award the construction of the Sango-Ijoko-Akute road during the week. According to him, all the efforts of his istration on the Akute-Ajuwon, Alagbole-Ajuwon, Giwa-Oke-Aro, and the Alagbole-Akute roads won't be appreciated if the Sango-Ijoko-Akute road is not completed. "We have not left behind our border communities. In the last two weeks, we have been going to Ifo Local Government several times because of the number of people that migrate between that local government and Lagos every day. "The Sango-Ijoko-Akute road is a road we are soon going to award, possibly this week. It is quite a lengthy piece of road; that road is about 17 kilometers. It is a major arterial road that connects Ogun West to Ogun Central and, of course, to Lagos," he said. Governor Abiodun noted that with work on-going on the other side of the Agbara-Atan-Lusada road, he would soon be inspecting the Inter-Change-Papalanto-Obelle road with Alhaji Aliko Dangote to hasten the completion of the road, which is being constructed with tax credit l. "At the moment, we are reconstructing the Ota-Ifo-Abeokuta road, which will also be of immense benefit to Ogun West. "The Inter-Change-Papalanto-Obelle road is also under construction; it is a great arterial road that serves as the West-East connector of our state. "Very soon, I am going to inspect that road with Alhaji Dangote. I have invited him to come and see how well or how not so well the road is progressing. "We have completed one side of the Agbara-Atan-Lusada road; that was a road nobody believed we would reconstruct. "Today, one section of that road has been completed from beginning to end, so we can travel from Agbara to Atan-Lusada without the usual tears. "We've now moved to the other side, and by the grace of God, we will complete that other section. That is a major road in Ogun West," he said. Governor Abiodun thanked the Olu of Ilaro and Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, other monarchs, community leaders, and the people of the community for their collaboration and cooperation towards the completion of the road, saying that his istration would continue to make promises and fulfill them. Earlier in his remarks, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, noted that the road, after its completion, would aid the development of the community and the state as a whole, adding that the road will also provide access to the Nigeria Police Training College. Akinsanya said the road was in a deplorable condition before its reconstruction, adding that its reconstruction will bring succor to the people. The Olu of Ilaro and the Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle commended Governor Abiodun for bringing development to Ogun West, adding that the Governor has done exceedingly well. The monarch also urged the Governor to extend the construction of the road from Erinja to Ilobi, saying that the extension will further take development to other parts of the town.

Ogun Govt. Begins Tolling Operations on Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, Calls for Total Compliance Ogun State Government has announced the commencement of tolling operations on the Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, starting from Monday, 24th March 2025, for the purpose of sustainable road maintenance, efficient operations, as well as enhanced road safety. It should be recalled that the 14.7km road had been in a poor state of repair for many years, making it a dangerous and unsatisfactory route for commuters. The istration of Governor Dapo Abiodun re-built the road into a modern expressway with up to date facilities, including toll booths. According to a statement on Wednesday by the Director-General, Office of the Public-Private Partnerships, Hon. Dapo Oduwole, the reason for not tolling the road immediately upon its opening for use, despite its PPP arrangement, was predicated on the magnanimity of Governor Dapo Abiodun and his resolve to make life comfortable for the people of the state. The statement explained that the Governor considered the expressway as a strategic corridor for economic activities between Nigeria's commercial capital of Lagos and Ogun State; hence, the urgency for its completion. The Director-General further stated that road s can comfortably ply the road without hindrance of any form, as necessary amenities were provided to make it one of the best in the country. "Prince Dapo Abiodun, upon assumption of office and in the course of deg an effective and efficient transport system that will boost the microeconomy of the state, discovered the economic importance of the Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway. "The government had opted for a public private partnership arrangement in the management of the asset including the collection of tolls. The government magnanimously delayed the rolling operations on that road since 2021 to provide some relief to residents and other road s. "Meanwhile, while considering the interests of the people, we must also take into cognizance the economic interests of the investors for us to strike a balance, hence the need to commence tolling operations on the road after about four years of using it free of any charge. "It is pertinent to note that some road s have been exempted from this tolling obligation. These include emergency response vehicles, such as ambulances, fire service, and patrol vehicles. "Others are government-owned security vehicles, Ogun State Government official vehicles, and any others as determined by the Ogun State Government. "We, therefore, urge all road s to comply with these tolling regulations as enforcement measures will be implemented to the fullest without fear or favor," the statement read.

The Ogun State Government has announced plans to integrate advanced technology and digital solutions into its water production and distribution systems to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and quality assurance. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Water Resources, Hon. Damilola Otubanjo, disclosed this during an assessment tour of water generation facilities in Abeokuta, the state capital. Otubanjo emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the Ogun State Water Corporation not only produces water but does so sustainably, with a strong focus on quality control. “We need to automate our processes and leverage digital technology to enhance operational efficiency. Some of our existing systems are outdated, and we must explore innovative solutions to optimize water production and distribution,” she stated. She further highlighted key challenges facing the water sector, particularly in maintenance and quality assurance, adding that an improved monitoring framework would be implemented to ensure compliance with water safety standards. Transition to Prepaid Water Metering To enhance revenue generation and ability, Otubanjo revealed the government’s plan to transition customers from flat-rate and postpaid billing systems to prepaid meters. “Currently, a significant portion of our water supply is categorized as non-revenue water due to non-payment by customers who either do not receive adequate supply or are billed on a flat rate. By transitioning to prepaid metering, consumers will only pay for the water they use, ensuring fairness and improving revenue collection,” she explained. She also noted that the government is exploring the deployment of sensors and smart meters to monitor water quality and quantity, allowing for better resource management and revenue estimation. Enhanced Response to Pipe Leakages and Water Distribution Challenges Hon. Otubanjo assured residents of improved service delivery, including a more proactive approach to addressing pipe bursts and leakages. She urged the public to actively participate in reporting such issues to ensure a more efficient water supply system. “We are committed to significantly improving our response time to pipeline damages. Our target is to address burst pipes within 24 hours. We also encourage residents to report any water-related issues through our toll-free helpline (07080601161), and we assure them of prompt action,” she stated. She further stressed the importance of public awareness and advocacy, stating that the government would embark on extensive sensitization campaigns to restore public confidence in the Ogun State Water Corporation. Expansion of Water Supply Infrastructure Speaking on water production beyond Abeokuta, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Jaji, Consultant to the Governor on Water Resources, highlighted the presence of multiple water supply schemes across the state, including: • Papa Water Works – supplying Papalanto, Ilaro, and Ifo • Ota 2 Scheme – supplying Ota • Ijebu-Ode Yemoji Scheme – covering parts of Ijebu-Ode • Apoje Scheme – serving Ijebu-Igbo and Ago-Iwoye • Various Borehole Schemes – catering to communities statewide Jaji urged residents to pay their water bills promptly to sustain these services while encouraging them to report burst pipes to prevent contamination of the water supply. Stakeholder Endorsement Commending the government’s commitment to improving water infrastructure, Mr. Olatunji Oladapo, Chairman of Workers’ Estate, Laderin, Abeokuta, expressed optimism that these initiatives would put an end to water supply disruptions in the estate. As part of the government’s ongoing efforts, the assessment tour covered key water infrastructure sites, including: • Oke-Temidire Water Reservoir, Abiola Way • Ogun State Water Corporation (Old and New Schemes), Arakanga • Alamala Booster Station • Car Wash Booster Station • Panseke Booster Station • Ibara Booster Station • Abeokuta Area Office • Laderin Borehole Scheme The Ogun State Government remains dedicated to modernizing its water sector, ensuring sustainable access to clean water for all residents.

Gov. Abiodun Promises State-of-the-Art Facilities for National Sports Festival ...as Ogun speeds up preparation The Ogun State Government has stated that preparations are in top gear for the 2024 National Sports Festival Games to be hosted by the State in January 2025. Speaking after inspecting the ongoing renovation of facilities at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, and the Ijeja Sports Centre, all in Abeokuta, the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, said his istration is committed to providing state-of-the-art facilities for the games. He said: "This stadium is probably anywhere between 30-35 years old since it was constructed, and this is the first time it is witnessing such a level of reconstruction. We are doing it with a sense of commitment and dedication, the way we are committing to and implementing all other projects across the State. "It is in line with our Ogun standard, and I have no doubt that by the time the whole reconstruction is completed, this stadium will rank as one of the best in the country and will remain one of our legacies." Abiodun expressed satisfaction with the level of work done so far and the competence of the contractors handling the projects. "I have come here today to see for myself the level of progress being made in the reconstruction work ahead of the Gateway Games 2025, which will start on January 12, 2025. "I want to say that I'm impressed with the level of activities that I have seen at the stadium. I have been to the site where the Olympic-size swimming pool is being constructed, as well as the tennis court and the handball court. Now I'm here at the main bowl where the pitch is being removed, the surface is being prepared in readiness for concrete work, and eventually the turf. "The track itself has been totally removed, and the drains have been opened. They are going to ensure that the pitch is canvassed so that when it rains, the water drains into the drains. The track is also getting ready, and I'm satisfied with the level of professionalism being demonstrated by the contractors. "I believe that they are very experienced; they know what to do, as some of them have worked here in the past. So, they are very familiar with this facility. I have pointed out a few things to them, and I have seen what they are doing with the scoreboard, floor lights, and VIP seats. I will review the final drawings of the VIP seats to ensure that they conform to what we have in mind," he added. The governor, who also visited the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, regretted that the centre had been neglected for long but expressed the commitment of his istration to put it in good shape for the successful hosting of the games. "We are excited that the Alake Sports Centre is also being totally reconstructed. The last time anything was done there was merely painting. We want to have a world-class sports festival. It will be a festival where all the athletes are in one location. There will be a Games Village where they will come from one location to where sports activities will take place. "It is a reflection of our commitment to sports development. We have consultants who will ensure the success of the games. We believe that besides that, it will put our state on the map during that period," Prince Abiodun noted. He said the festival would serve as an opportunity to bring the youth together for meaningful engagement, as sports not only trains the mind but also teaches teamwork and leadership skills. "We are convinced that after the games, there will be other individuals who will come and take concession of this stadium to make it a sporting centre of excellence where our youth from the length and breadth of this state can come and train, discover their talents, and proceed to compete nationally and internationally," the governor noted. The games will start on January 12 and end on January 26, 2025.

APC Hails Ogun State Govt. For Attracting $25 million Foreign Investments The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has hailed the State Government for attracting $25 million foreign investments in the last one year. In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abeokuta, the state capital, by the State Publicity Secretary, Tunde Oladunjoye, the party said, "The recognition of Ogun State by Statisense, a pioneering AI data company as one of the top five leading states in Nigeria to have attracted huge foreign investments in the last one year is highly commendable and recommendable. "Specifically, the report listed Ogun State as the fifth state to have attracted the highest amount of foreign investments in Nigeria between June 2023 and June 2024. "Within the period, our dear state attracted $25 million foreign investments, ahead of oil-rich Rivers State ($6.00 million) and others. "Our dear state is in the same league with others like Lagos ($5.95 billion), FCT ($2.59billion), Abia ($150.09 million), Akwa Ibom ($33.95 million) which attracted huge foreign investments within the period. "We reckon that this commendable and recommendable feat would not have been possible without the leadership, foresight and uncommon business acumen of our focused Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON. "It is for this reason that we wish to commend Mr. Governor and his team for the excellent work they are doing in attracting both local and foreign investments and making Ogun State a true economic and industrial hub, and an investors destination of choice “. The party urged the Abiodun-led State Government not to rest on its oars but to remain focused, adding that, "as it is said, the reward for a job well done is more work". |

This decision was revealed after a meeting of the State Government led by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, and the leadership of the Organized Labour in Ogun State, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the t Negotiating Council (JNC), to discuss the implementation of the new minimum wage. Talabi said the meeting was at the instance of Governor Abiodun, who he stated has directed that no worker in the state should earn less than N77,000 starting from the month of October. He stated that Prince Abiodun means well for the people of the state and has proactively taken steps to further ameliorate the suffering of the people, adding that the Governor has also advised the organized private sector to take a cue from the policy, as their workers are not exempt from the economic realities in the country, to improve the living standards of people in the state holistically. The SSG also noted that the Governor has therefore advised that the private sector should dialogue with their relevant stakeholders to arrive at a commensurate minimum wage for the sector while he will set up a monitoring team to see how it is implemented by the private sector to ensure no one is short-changed. On his part, the State NLC Chairman, Comrade Hameed Benco, said the organized labour in the state is very pleased with the Governor having approved the N77,000 in consultation with labour leaders, which today is the highest in the country. Benco noted that some states that have implemented the new minimum wage are paying N70,000, while some pay N70,250 or less, adding that the other sectorial salaries will be affected accordingly. He also mentioned that the government has graciously approved the submission of labour that the new basic salary should not be taxed. In the same vein, Comrade Akeem Lasisi of the TUC and his counterpart, Comrade Isa Olude of the JNC, commended the government for being worker-friendly, while they noted that consequential adjustments for pensioners and other matters will be announced after due consultation with the relevant stakeholders. In his reaction, Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, said the approval of the generous minimum wage for workers underscores the responsiveness and sensitivity of the Governor and the government to the plight of the workers and the general populace of the state. Onasanya expressed optimism that the gestures by the government will further boost the morale of the workers in committing themselves to the implementation of the government's policies.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has called for the establishment of a military Forward Operation Base in the eastern part of the state to help curb criminal activities in that area. Governor Abiodun made the call on Wednesday when he received the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Farooq Mijinyawa, who paid him a courtesy call in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. Abiodun noted that the high volume of commercial activities in the eastern part of the state, also comes with criminal activities, hence the need to beef up security in the region. The governor said a military presence is needed in the area to keep at bay criminals who migrate from neighbouring states to Ogun to cause havoc. He said: "I think one of the things you can do to help us sustain the peace that we have been enjoying in Ogun State is to think of putting some base, maybe some form of Forward Operation Base in the eastern part of the state. "Right now, we are at the center where we have the state capital. We have a presence in Ogun West, but I think because of the level of commercial activities that are beginning to evolve in the eastern flank of the state, particularly with our airport there, you are going to see an exponential increase in business activities. "Because every now and then, there are issues that want to test our resolve to maintain peace and order, and as you know, as a law enforcement expert, it is the speed with which you respond to these issues that determines how quickly you neutralize them. "The Brigade Commander has often had to respond with dispatch through OP-MESA to places like Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode when we have issues. In fact, at times, we had to put men to stay there, and Sagamu-Ogijo is where these bad boys are constantly traveling between Ikorodu, Ogijo, Sagamu, and at times have issues with cultists, which sometimes get very bad. We cannot have such news emanating from Ogun, which is the industrial hub of the nation. "We cannot have news filtering out of the state that will make potential investors uncomfortable, and you know that part of dealing with criminals is to be proactive by discouraging them. When they see your presence, they want to go to places where they can easily perpetrate their crimes. "I think we can have men of the Nigerian Army there permanently, and we as a state will provide whatever it is that you need to facilitate so that it can happen immediately. If we have something around the Remo axis that will make it easier for the Army to deploy within minutes." The governor emphasized that security is vital for economic activities, adding that his istration could not have implemented its vision in a chaotic environment, even as he lauded the Army for playing a critical role in the state's security apparatus. He said that although Ogun is one of the most peaceful states in the country, its geographical location has put pressure on the government to provide not only infrastructure but also security to the people at all times. Abiodun described the new General Officer as a round peg in a round hole, stating that his education, training, and exposure have adequately prepared him for the top military position. While calling for more cooperation and for his istration to maintain peace and order, the governor promised to assist the Army and other security agencies in the state to optimally perform their constitutional duties. Speaking earlier, General Mijinyawa appreciated the governor for his constant to the Army, especially in the area of welfare for the wives of fallen heroes, annual Army celebrations, and needed logistics. "I have ordered my officers and men to continue the good work they are doing in the state to ensure that the peace that we have continues to thrive. Let me assure you that we will step up our efforts to ensure improved security in the state," General Mijinyawa concluded.

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday promised that the construction of the Laderin train station road in Abeokuta will soon be completed. Governor Abiodun, who decried the idea by the Federal Government to conceptualize and build the train station without an access road, said that his istration, upon the construction of a world-class airport at Ilishan, deemed it fit to open up a new access road directly from the Sagamu-Benin Expressway, even as the Ilishan and Iperu roads still exist. The Governor stated this during a special church service to usher in the 2024/2025 Legal Year held at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta. Prince Abiodun said that the contractor handling the road project has just completed the construction of two big box culverts (mini-bridges) that will channel water away from the road, while earthwork and drainage will soon commence. He said: "We don't understand why a train station is built without an access road as part of that project conception. Today, we have built a world-class airport in Remo; can you imagine that we built that airport without considering the access road to that airport? "There are other existing roads to that airport. However, we have begun the construction of an access road that tees off the Sagamu-Benin Expressway. If you are coming to that airport, you don't need to go through Ilisan or Iperu; you make a left turn straight to the airport. This is what a project from inception should look like. "In this instance, this train station was conceived, built, and completed without an access road being part of the project. "As a responsible governor and government, we have taken it upon ourselves to award the contract for the road leading to that train station, and that contract is currently ongoing. However, the construction of two big box culverts that will channel stormwater away from the road has been completed. "Earthwork and drainage will start. I will, however, personally urge the contractor to ensure he finishes on record time." He said the legal year provides an opportunity to collectively reaffirm commitment to pursue justice as well as continually improve the istration of justice in the state. Abiodun said the outgoing year witnessed the resilience and dedication of the judiciary system despite unprecedented challenges confronting the nation, adding that the judiciary has, however, remained the beacon of fairness, integrity, and independence. "As we all know, the judiciary is the bedrock of democracy, the pillar that upholds justice, equity, and fairness, which safeguards our rights to freedom and ensures the stability of our society. "The commencement of the new legal year offers the chance to reiterate the importance of justice in society, a time for introspection on the ethics of the profession, principles of justice, and commitment to serving the public good," the governor said. The maintenance of law, order, and istration of justice, Prince Abiodun emphasized, is intricately linked as essential to ensuring healthy politics and achieving a just society. He expressed the hope that of the state judiciary would individually and collectively fulfill their constitutional roles, just as he expressed confidence in their unwavering commitment to uphold the rule of law, ensuring justice and safeguarding the rights of every citizen. "I am confident that Law Officers will continue to perform their duties with the highest level of professionalism and dedication in alignment with the state government's vision of a fair, just, and equitable society, free from anarchy and tyranny," the governor noted. In a sermon titled "Let Justice Flow," the Archbishop of the African Church, Most Reverend Solomon Ojumu, stressed the need for judges to always deliver impartial judgments while judicial officers should also ensure quick dispensation of justice, as justice delayed is justice denied. Taking his text from Amos 5, verses 21-23, the clergyman noted that there are injustices in the land as people are oppressed by the powerful in society, adding that as the last hope of the common man, judges ought to be champions of the poor by delivering sound judgment to all manner of people regardless of their social status. Archbishop Ojumu called on Nigerian leaders to do the needful to reduce suffering in the land as there is hunger and desperation among the poor due to the sins of the few elites. The Chief Judge of the State, Hon. Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu read the only lesson of the service taken from Romans 12, verses 9-21.

The Ogun State Executive Council has approved the construction of five additional roads across the State. Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya dropped the hint on Thursday during a press conference while giving an update on ongoing road constructions in the State. The five additional roads are Alagbole-Ajuwon, Akute-Ajuwon, Toyin-Giwa Hercules road, Oke-Aro, all in Ifo Local Government Area in Ogun Central Senatorial District. Others are Oke-Erinja and Erinja in Yewa South as well as Awokoya road in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area. Engr. Akinsanya spoke on the readiness of the state government to continue with the reconstruction of the remaining 17 kilometers Akute-Ijoko road, stating that it would be divided into two phases starting from Akute to Oke Aro where the issue of flooding would be addressed while the next phase starts from Oke Aro to Ijoko. Giving an update on the Lagos-Ota-Sango-Abeokuta road, the commissioner disclosed that contract for the reconstruction of the road was awarded on the 28 of March by the State Executive Council to Craneburg Construction Company which was accepted by the company in April, with necessasy istrative process still ongoing at the federal level, expressing the hope that they would move to site soon. "The job will be done in phases beginning from Sango to Abeokuta with four gangs working at the same time. Though there are still some paperwork to be done, the governor decided to start the reconstruction of the road to relieve the people of the pain they go through on a daily basis. "In addition to this being done by the State, the governor has facilitated more projects with the federal government. For example, the Laderin Train Station road phase one. That project is into two phases. From Laderin to the train station with the channelization of storm water to the drainages," he said. He noted that the governor played a major part in 14 different ongoing projects across the state, like the Ilisan Market road to Babcock as an example. The commissioner also stated that his ministry is collaborating with the federal government to rehabilitate an additional 21 roads across the state beginning with Ado Odo/Ota, Yewa North and South, as well as Abeokuta North and South. Akinsanya said: "One of the key projects the governor has played a major role is in the reconstruction of Sango-Atan-Owode-Idi-Iroko road. That project is ongoing. The governor facilitated its commencement as the project has been on paper for so many years. "We have two bridges along that road, and this will bring relief to the people, especially those at Oju-Ore and the roundabout where there is a major problem. That problem will resolve with a flyover at the location. Then, moving from there to Canaan Land, there will be another bridge, and the road will go all the way to the Idi-Iroko border." Engr. Akinsanya attributed the cause of damage to roads in the state to the dumping of refuse on drainages and buildings on waterways that result in flooding. While assuring the citizens that government is taking notes of roads in all the local government areas, the commissioner, however, said criteria would be used in prioritizing them, appealing to the people to exercise patient as government makes efforts to put the roads in good shape.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has named the 12.5 kilometres Kemta-Idi Aba-Somorin road in Abeokuta, after the Noble Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka. Governor Abiodun, who spoke at a reception organized by the state government to celebrate the 90th birthday of the Noble Laureate, in Abeokuta, on Wednesday, said the naming of the road after the world renowned playright was as a result of his achievements in the academia and literature that has brought honour not only to Ogun State and Nigeria, but the black race. Abiodun said that apart from using his writings to expose human conditions, Prof. Soyinka also showcases the rich and beautiful African culture to the outside world. "Prof. Wole Soyinka is a towering figure in literature and a Noble Laureate whose works have echoed across the world. A shining star of our great nation, his life and work are great testaments as a great genius. His intellectual prowess and his unwavering dedication to the advancement of humanity are without question. "As a colossus of our era, he continues to exemplify the spirit of resilience through his unwavering commitment to truth and justice. Throughout his life, he has continued to challenge oppression, using himself as a mighty sword against injustice," Prince Abiodun said. The governor noted that attaining the age of 90 is a testament to the grace of God who had spared his life, thanking President Bola Tinubu for renaming the National Arts Theatre, Lagos after the erudite scholar, noting that it is a well deserved honour. "His writings are powerful weapons for social change and enlightenment, rich in symbolism and depth that have captivated audiences globally and transcending cultural boundaries. "His career span academia, literature and activism exemplifying a profound commitment to creating a just and equitable world," the governor added. Recounting some of the travails the literal icon went through to ensure an egalitarian society, Governor Abiodun said he was imprisoned during the Nigerian civil war on charges of conspiring with the Biafran succesionists where he spent 22 months, adding that despite that, he still remains resolute for a better society. He congratulated the celebrant for attaining the age of 90 and prayed for more fruitful years ahead. The former Secretary of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, while supervising the cutting of the birthday cake, described Prof. Soyinka as a champion of democracy and the promoter of human dignity. PLANNED PROTEST: EKO O NI GBAGBAKUGBA By Olaseni O. Egbeyemi It has been widely circulated that some groups are planning what they term a "Mega Protest." Every Nigerian, regardless of where they live, has the right to protest against injustice. The current situation affecting the standard of living is dire and disheartening. The high cost of food and essential items is appalling, and the masses are suffering. It is often said that a hungry man is an angry man. People are genuinely hungry and angry. When pushed to the brink, they are likely to react in ways they may not be able to control. We have witnessed both peaceful and violent protests in Nigeria. The last End SARS protest was particularly intense and destructive, resulting in significant loss of lives and properties. During that protest, organized by the youths, several lessons were learned by the organizers, the government, and the general public. Unfortunately, some elements used the protest as a cover for vindictiveness and the destruction of government and private properties. In the end, it was revealed that the protest had sinister motives with political undertones. The regrouping of certain elements in and around Lagos to organize another protest is uncalled for. Yes, the masses are hungry and angry, but it is alleged that some individuals, mainly from a specific section of the country, are calling for these protests as a continuation of their unfinished End SARS agenda, which caused chaos in parts of the country. Anyone willing to protest should do so in their states of origin. "Our Lagos" is a center of excellence, not a center of destruction. The Lagos State Government, security agencies, and responsible citizens should condemn and prevent these plans. Many have come to Lagos seeking greener pastures and have found success here. Destroying Lagos or targeting properties for destruction should not be tolerated. The efforts of government to alleviate this suffering should be ed and encouraged, not called into question with another destructive protest. Nigeria is not Kenya. Lagos is not Nairobi. We must protect the Lagos we inherited and continue to prosper in it. We cannot stand by while those who left their villages to thrive in Lagos rise to destroy it. "Eko o ni gbagbakugba" Let the protesters go to their villages and protest there, not in "OUR LAGOS." The right to protest is not the right to destroy. E FI EKO SILE... EKO O NI BAJE, O BAJE TI. LAGOS IS RISING. 11 Likes 3 Shares |
