Removing subsidies only hurts citizens. It merely takes the little relief that the citizens were getting, and saves it for the Government. And what will a corrupt Government do with the savings? Pay national debt? Squander it? The problem is that the "reforms" will not improve or advance Nigeria in the long run. It shows the real problem with Nigeria. Cluelessness of leadership. They have no idea how to advance the country. Even the citizens themselves are just as clueless as the leadership. Nigerians still believe that corruption and tribalism is the reason for Nigeria's backward slide into economic anarchy and insecurity. I laughed the other day when I read that Nigeria purchased $1 million worth of armaments to combat insecurity. Insecurity is a symptom of BAD GOVERNMENT. The problem is lack of ECONOMIC OPORTUNITIES and HARDSHIP. And the Government is fighting symptoms of bad government, instead of restructuring the system in a way that will trigger economic diversification and employment opportunities If you only treat symptoms, the disease will kill you. As a nation, Nigeria is almost dead. Our problem is STRUCTURAL. The United States has more diversity and corruption than Nigeria, and it's still advanced. There's a reason the State of California is the 5th largest economy in the world. While the State of Michigan is poor. If it was Nigeria, both States would be equally poor. This is because Nigeria has been practicing the very opposite of economic system that exist in America, Canada, , Japan and other industrialized nations! Restructure the economy!!!! The drug baron has no idea what to do. Nigerians are just as clueless. Keep blaming corruption. 2 Likes |

For decades, have smart people not been calling for the decentralization of Nigeria's economic system? Have they not been begging for each State to develop their own natural resources and control their own destiny! Have we not sounded the alarm that Nigeria is practicing the very opposite of the economic system that exist in America, Canada, , Japan and other industrialized nations! Have we not been begging the Federal Government to stop the practice whereby we drill oil in one State and allocate the revenue or proceeds to other States? Have we not tirelessly begged our Government that the only way to diversify Nigeria's economy is through decentralization and economic empowerment of States, as it is done in America, Canada, , etc? With economic empowerment, some States will manage their natural resources better than others. So, industries will relocate to those States that provide better infrastructure, like uninterrupted power supply. Yes, some States will experience economic boom, and, unfortunately, some States will lag. But, more significantly, the entire Nation would not be held back by those States that cannot, or do not, want to move forward. But Hausa-Fulani oligarch stubbornly resisted decentralization, thereby preventing the diversification of Nigeria's economy. Decentralizing the economy would mean giving up control. Northerners have been controlling Nigeria like it is their private property. After the counter-coup of 1966, when they seized power, all National policies and decisions have been made with the interest of the North, leading to gradual and continued decline of the country. Northerners have been using Nigeria's resource wealth like it is their private fund. They dominate Nigerian armed forces and National security; they rushed the capital to the North; they built Kainji dam with resource revenue from the South; they blatantly defied the principles of location of industries, and established oil refineries in the North. They don't have oil, but they ran NNPC, and controlled most Oil Blocks. They enjoyed preferential treatment for ission into higher institution - the list is endless. Over-centralization compelled the country to depended on one main resource revenue. And this practice has finally killed the country. It's too late now. 2 Likes |

"The trip was Tinubu’s third to and his 14th foreign visit since he assumed office eight months ago." It's incredible how people in power flagrantly luxuriate in national wealth without any concern or fear of uprising by the suffering masses. Why are Nigerians so ive? 1 Like |

The coach embarrassed Nigeria with his defensive tactic because it made Nigeria look stupid, and totally outclassed. Ivory Coast goal keeper was hardly tested.

Health of the economy does not depend on removing flexibility in the use of Dollar or any foreign currency within the country. The effect this policy will have on the economy is like pouring a cup of water into the ocean. Even if domiciliary s were taxed, will the government use the money judiciously? For instance, will they use the money to provide uninterrupted power supply? I am just surprised that Nigeria has any sort of economic activities without regular and stable power supply. Without stable power here in Canada, industrial activities would come to a halt, and the economy will collapse! The saddest aspect is that Nigerians have accepted unreliable power supply as normal. A lot of comments here are obviously by young people who do not understand the salient issue. If the federal government captures and hoardes foreign currencies, it will make foreign currency scarce, and very valuable within the country. This will inevitably lead to smuggling. Also, people who really need foreign currency might decide to receive them in Cotonou and other surrounding countries. Till date, Nigeria has prohibitive laws that benefit the economies of Benin Republic and Togo. The federal Government is just chasing shadows here, just like they have done for 60 years. Ultimately, the value of Nigeria's currency against the Dollar is based ONLY on exchange of GOODS and SERVICES on the world market; (ie, EXPORT). And Nigeria has potentially limitless export opportunities. But the government is clueless about how to harness, maximize and marshall Nigeria's potentials, so they are making token effort. Nigeria's economic structure needs radical restructuring. We have US, Canadian, German models to guide us. Instead, we are practicing the same backward economic system that was started in the '60s, which equalizes all States in the Federation, nationalizes poverty, and hinders advancement. Every succesive istration follows the old structure because it is in the interest of certain group of Nigerians for the economy to remain OVER-CENTRALIZED. Only the restructuring of our economic system will rescue Nigeria from being a failed State. In fact, it is almost too late. We are already seeing the sign of Nigeria's disintegration through economic hardship and insecurity. It will get worse, because Nigeria recently took delivery of massive armaments from the US. Insecurity in Nigeria is a symptom of lack of economic opportunities, and the leadership spent $1 billion to fight symptoms. |

Don't you realize we belittle Nigeria's greatness by bantering with Ghana? This is exactly what Ghana want. Ghana is an insignificant ant. They gain relevance, significance and importance by being associated with Nigeria. That's why they always try to muscle themselves into Nigeria's business. That's why they created the fiction of Nigeria versus Ghana. Unfortunately, young and clueless Nigerians have foolishly taken the bait. By bantering with Ghana, you are making them great. Just ignore Ghana completely. Ghana is nothing. Stop giving them relevance. 1 Like 1 Share |

It is sad that Nigerians have fallen into the belief that insecurity can be tacked without radical economic restructuring. Insecurity is a symptom of BAD GOVERNMENT. The real issue is lack of ECONOMIC WELLBEING. Economic wellbeing enhances quality of life, breeds happiness and contentment, and ushers PEACE and SECURITY. Insecurity is the consequence of economic hardship. And the Government is fighting symptoms of bad government, instead of focusing on job creation, increasing industrial activities, boosting food production, and improving social services. If you only treat symptoms, the disease will kill you. As a nation, Nigeria is almost dead. |
