In a tragic incident, militants associated with Islamic State carried out an attack on a private secondary school in Mpondwe town, Uganda, resulting in the loss of at least 37 students' lives.

Reports indicate that the terrorists also abducted six individuals.

The victims included students, a guard, and two of the local community, who were fatally attacked outside the school. The assailants employed various means, such as setting fire to a dormitory and resorting to gunfire and machete violence, causing the students' untimely deaths.

The Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces, along with the police, initiated a pursuit of the attackers who fled towards Virunga National Park, situated across the border in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Kidnappers killed one of the victims abducted in Gaye village, in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as 11 other villager abducted along side with her were rescued.

The deceased, identified as Tarma Tsugnigo, and 11 other villagers were kidnapped from the community last month.

Eleven of the villagers were among over 50 kidnap victims [url]rescued[/url] by operatives of the FCT police Command at the weekend.

The FCT police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, explained that a gun duel between police operatives and the kidnappers claimed the life of a kidnap victim, Tama Jonathan.

According to the PPRO, Tama sustained injury during the rescue operation and died on the spot.

In what will come across as a really startling development, a Dutch man has had to undergo reconstructive surgery on his penis after a cobra bit his manhood during a safari trip in South Africa — causing it to rot.

According to the New York Post, the 47-year-old victim suffered scrotal necrosis after the cold-blooded serpent, which was lurking in the toilet bowl, attacked, according to Urology Case Reports.

In what the medical journal described as the first case of “snouted cobra envenomation of the genitals,” the unidentified man had to wait three hours before he was flown by helicopter to the nearest trauma center some 220 miles away.

“His penis and scrotum were noted to be swollen, deep purple in color, and painful on hospital ission. Scrotal necrosis was diagnosed, and he received multiple doses of a non-specific snake venom antiserum and broad-spectrum antibiotics,” according to the medical report.

The man reported vomiting and a burning sensation as well as pain that shot up from his groin into the abdomen and upper chest – though he developed no neurological symptoms during the ordeal.

He required hemodialysis due to acute kidney injury before undergoing reconstructive surgery.

“The scrotal necrosis was reported to involve the entire fascia (skin to internal spermatic) and was excised with extensive margins. Primary closure was performed, leaving a drain in situ,” Urology Case Reports said.

“The defect in the penile shaft was treated by superficial debridement and a vacuum assisted closure pump. After 9 days, the patient was repatriated to the Netherlands,” it added.

A plastic surgeon later performed a “penile shaft debridement, with extensive resection of dead tissue extending into the corpus spongiosum to the fold of the preputium.” A graft from the groin was then placed over the penis and he has made a full recovery.

Necrosis – or necrotizing fasciitis, commonly referred to as the “flesh-eating disease” — is a potentially deadly condition caused by bacteria infecting tissue. The condition, which spreads quickly, requires immediate treatment with intravenous antibiotics.

Nigeria's Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has denied reports that he's the owner of the land and the 21-storey building that collapsed in Lagos on Monday.

Osinbajo described the building collapse as a horrible tragedy as he condoled with the families and relatives of all those who have died and those who were injured or affected in the collapsed building.

Reacting to allegations that the said land was sold to him by Chief Michael Ade Ojo, Chairman of Elizade Motors; and reports that he some time ago intervened with the regulatory authorities in Lagos State to unseal the said property, Osinbajo maintained that he has never been involved in the development of any land since he became Vice President.

A statement issued by Osinbajo’s Senior Special Assistant on Media & Publicity said, ”At no time whatsoever did the VP buy this or any other piece of land from Chief Michael Ade Ojo, or entered into any transaction for the sale of that land or any other piece of land from Chief Ade. Ojo or anyone for that matter.



”All property and assets owned by the Vice President have been publicly declared.



”Also, the Vice President has never spoken to the Governor of Lagos State or any other official of the State Government regarding the unsealing of the said building on Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, which subsequently collapsed. He has, indeed, never acted to influence any other regulatory action on the collapsed building, or any other building for that matter, in Lagos State.”



Osinbajo further explained that he has no interest and has never had any interest, in the land, the building or development.

”The wickedness and viciousness of a lie that seeks to utilise a tragedy where so many people have lost their lives, even as rescue efforts are ongoing, and in wanton disregard to the feelings and untold grief of their loved ones for political gain, reveals a dangerous desperation, as well as the heartlessness of the perpetrators of such despicable lies.” the statement reads in part.

The Vice President added that he has referred the ‘disgraceful’ publication to his lawyers for prompt legal action.
