APC is Not Serious at
All, They have Left the
Field for Jonathan
Prof. Akin Oyebode, a
Professor of
International Law at
the University of Lagos,
UNILAG. He looks at
2015 and how APC is
busy criticising TAN and
the Presidency rather
than conduct early
primaries to present a
formidable Presidential
candidate that will
enough time to
campaign before the
elections:
The purpose of the
opposition is to put the
ruling party in check.
But the opposition the
APC has suffered a lot
from defections. Do
you think it has the
capacity to keep the
PDP in line in 2015?
I’m not a prophet. APC
has suffered a lot of
haemorrhage because
of its failure to get its
acts together.
Ideologically, the APC
looks confused. It looks
like the PDP called by
another name. There
must be a clear-cut
distinction between the
ruling party and the
opposition. In Nigeria
now, it is quite easy to
belong to one party in
the morning, switch to
another during lunch,
and when you are
having dinner, you
change to another.
Nigerians generally
look at the
personalities not the
parties. They vote for
persons. Look at a
party like APC; five
months to the
presidential elections,
there is no candidate.
APC is not serious. A
party that is formidable
and credible should
have presented Nigeria
with an alternative
candidate. The party
has left the field for
Jonathan. And if care is
not taken, Jonathan
will have a landslide
return to Aso Rock,
despite his lapses and
ineffectiveness
.
People call him
clueless. But Nigerians
generally say clueless
or no clueless, at least
better the devil you
know than the one you
are yet to meet...
The parties in
opposition have not
gotten their acts
together. By now, we
ought to have had a
broad national
democratic coalition.
Not just the APC. You
bring Accord, DPP, even
APGA, so that you
have a broad national
coalition because of the
elections. But there is
nothing like that in the
offing, and I am not
sure in the political
landscape whether we
are going to have the
type of thing we are
talking about. It’s only
five months left. Who
is APC candidate? I
don’t know the APC
candidate. And I can’t
vote for somebody I
don’t know. What I am
saying is that for us to
have a virile
democracy, as we say
in Nigeria, there must
be the opposition
winning power.
Ghana has had it three
times, that is why
Ghanaian democracy is
more robust, more
thoroughbred and a
wholesome experiment
than Nigeria’s. In a
place like Ghana,
imperative of the right
to choose is recognized.
Where the people’s
right to choose is
foreclosed, you can’t
talk of a democratic
system.
But we have to blame
those who are in the
opposition for failing to
rise to the occasion. By
default, the APC may
lose the next
presidential election.
So, we are going to
have more of the
same, however
optimistic they are,
however, romanticizing
their prospect. I am a
realist and I am not
impressed by the
opposition, not because
I ire the PDP
either, because the
PDP, for me, is an
aggregation of
incompatibles who just
have one mission – to
exploit Nigeria.

wonders why APC
can't conduct it's
presidential primary in
October? The PDP
already has Jonathan
as its candidate since
January 2014 but APC
wants to have it's own
candidate in the
months of December
2014, and the elections
will take place in
February, just two
months after.
Please, how much time

I don’t need an

I don’t need a cruise missile

I don’t need a mobile

I don’t need a nuclear

I don’t need a nuclear

I don’t need a strategic

I don’t need a stealth

Sukhoi Su-35)
All I need is ONE working
nuclear warhead..! I wouldn’t
mind transporting and
delivering the package BY
HAND to the National
Assembly Complex. Blow up
that shrine of corruption
and put an end to this
geographical expression!
How can I be alive, a Man

we finalise this geographic

The clock is ticking. I am

enriching Plutonium-239

you like go and invite the
IAEA and the UN Security

won’t find me. Once I enrich

Says torture is prohibited>>The Nigeria Police Force has
faulted the report of
Amnesty International,
saying that torture is
prohibited. In a statement
by Force Public Relations
Officer, Ag. Emmanuel
Ojukwu, it stated that there
is a zero tolerance for
corruption and abuse of
power, stressing there is no
Immunity for impunity in
Nigeria Police Force.
READ THE FULL STATEMENT
BELOW:
The attention of the Nigeria
Police has been drawn to
an on-line publication
entitled 'Welcome to Hell-
Fire': torture and other ill-
treatment in Nigeria.
While we do not question
the freedom of Amnesty
International to earn its
relevance and bread, the
Nigeria Police takes serious
exceptions to some blatant
falsehoods and innuendoes
contained in that report.
For one, it smacks of
indecency and intemperate
language to liken our dear
nation Nigeria, to hell fire.
That cannot be true. We
believe that Nigeria is a
growing nation, green and
largely peaceful.
While the Nigeria Police and
other operators in the
criminal justice sector are
undergoing systematic
reforms, and aligning
themselves with the
demands of democracy,
there is no gain saying the
fact that the Nigeria Police
Force has since improved its
operational efficiency and
effectiveness. Since the
dawn of democracy in 1999,
the Nigeria Police Force has
significantly improved on its
human rights records, owing
largely to training and re-
training, community policing,
attitudinal change and
structural transformation.
In its report under
reference, Amnesty
International did it in its
methodology that it visited
some Police Formations and
interviewed some family
of suspects. At no
time in its report, did
Amnesty speak or interface
with the Police authorities.
This obviously shows their
disdain and apparent lack of
character where the
democratic tenets of fair
hearing are concerned.
The report covered a seven
year period of 2007-2014. I
dare say that some of the
issues raised have since
been dispensed with and
settled.
Of a truth, torture or ill-
treatment is not, repeat,
NOT an official policy of the
Nigeria Police.
The Code of Conduct of
Officers, as well as our
Regulations prohibit torture
and incivility to of
the public. We are versed
with international best
practices, and the dictates
of the Nigerian Constitution
as regards human rights. So
the Police do not routinely
torture suspects. It is not
systemic or endemic.
Whenever instances of
human rights abuses are
brought to the notice of
superintending officers, the
offending personnel are
promptly sanctioned in line
with the laws and
regulations. For the
avoidance of doubt, Nigeria
Police Force has a zero
tolerance for corruption and
abuse of power. There is no
Immunity for impunity in
Nigeria Police Force.
Besides, the Nigeria Police is
women-friendly. We do not
target sex workers, nor
routinely adopt rape as a
weapon. Instead, the Police
has established a family
and human trafficking unit
to protect the rights of
women, children and the
vulnerable of our
society.
However, the Nigeria Police
Force shall meticulously
scan through the document,
and investigate any current
human rights abuses linked
to any officer or formation.
Any identified and
established case of
malfeasance or misconduct
shall be treated in line with
the laws and regulations.
We crave the indulgence of
Amnesty International to,
for the first time, furnish the
Police with specific details
of its allegations to enable
us reach the ends of justice
for the alleged victims, and
to improve our service
delivery.
The Nigeria Police Force
remains responsive to the
yearnings of Nigerians for
improved safety and
security.
The Police is your helper
and friend.

1.) Trim Away
Pubic hair untamed can
cause the vagina to
have a ‘funky’ smell.
This is because the hair
traps sweat and drops
of body secretions-
totally not cool. In order
to have excellent
feminine hygiene,
women are
recommended to shave
or trim their pubic hair.
That hairless look is not
just appealing to
women but to their
partners too by al
means trim and tame!

2.) Go Easy On Intimate
Washes
There are a lot of
feminine hygiene
washes and products
out in the market all
claiming to be the best,
ladies are encouraged
to be wary of them.
Products that contain
strong scents, for
instance no matter how
hypo-allergenic can
cause infections which
leads to itching, swelling
and foul-smelling
discharge. Studies
actually reveal the
vagina is self cleansing
so with proper intimate
hygiene, you can do
without the washes.

3.) Wipe Clean
After each trip to the
bathroom, always wipe
the outer surface of
your vagina clean. This
eliminates the scent of
urine, sweat and natural
discharge and instead
of rough tissue paper,
use baby wipes instead,
its refreshing.

4.) Wash Often
Whenever possible,
women should wash
their private parts in
order to smell good. Do
not use regular soaps
as it can be really
drying and irritating, if
you have to use soaps
go for soft toilet ones.
Make it a habit to wash
before and after sex to
avoid any
embarrassing
revelations.

5.) Watch What You Eat
Experts say, ‘you are
what you eat’ and that
influences how one also
smells ‘down there’. Go
easy on spicy foods as
well as asparagus if
you want to smell
heavenly. Instead
infuse a lots of fresh
fruits and vegetables to
have a fresh smelling
scent in the vaginal
area. Drinking lots of
water, pineapple juice
and cranberry juice also
help!

6.) Visit A Gynaecologist
Often Trips to the
gynecologist can be
pretty daunting and not
usually common
around here but they
are recommended and
really help with the
process of maintaining
good feminine hygiene.
More importantly,
gynecologists offer
valuable information on
how to maintain the
cleanliness of the
vaginal area and also
recommend feminine
hygiene products
according to a woman’s
specific pH level....

The Edo State Police
Command has arrested a
37-year-old man, one
Augustine Obodeke; for
having carnal knowledge of
his 17-year old daughter
(Favour) and impregnating
her three times. The bubble
finally burst for Obodeke
when his daughter became
pregnant the third time and
was unwilling to go for
abortion.
According to police report,
the girl had cried out to
neighbours who then
reported the matter to the
Ugbowo Police Station in
Benin City.
The bubble finally burst for
Obodeke when his daughter
became pregnant the third
time and was unwilling to
go for abortion.
According to police report,
the girl had cried out to
neighbours who then
reported the matter to the
Ugbowo Police Station in
Benin City.
Following the report, the
police arrested Obodeke
and he is currently cooling
his feet in a police cell.
Narrating her ordeal to
Sunday Sun, Favour said her
father started having s*xual
intercourse with her after
the death of her mother.
“He first impregnated me
and we went for abortion.
My father impregnated me
the second time and I went
for another abortion. He had
arranged a doctor at Uselu
who has been doing the
abortion. “My father
impregnated me the third
time and told me that we
should go for another
abortion but I ran out of the
house. He then threatened
to deal with me if I told
anybody what has been
happening between us.
“I have to cry out early in
the morning which
prompted our neighbours to
intervene. Since my mother
was late, anytime my father
requested for s*x, I felt I
had no choice than to allow
him have s*x with me,”
Favour explained.
In his own ,
Obodeke accepted that he
had been sleeping with his
daughter and had
impregnated her thrice. He,
however, attributed it to the
death of his wife and his
inability to remarry. “It is
true that I have been
having s*x with my own
daughter. When she
became pregnant the first
time, I took her to one of
my doctors at Uselu
Quarters who terminated
the pregnancy. I
impregnated her the second
time and I took her to the
same doctor who
terminated the pregnancy
again.
It was when I impregnated
her the third time that she
refused to follow me to the
doctor for the abortion. “I
decided to be have s*x with
my daughter because my
wife is late and I have not
remarried.
I decided to enjoy my own
daughter by having s*x with
her. I want my daughter to
forgive me because I have
sinned against her. Nobody
told me that what I was
doing to my daughter was
an abomination.
I thought I was enjoying
the s*x with my daughter,”
he said The Edo State
Commissioner of Police, Mr.
Foluso Adebanjo said the
man was arrested on
November 22, 2013. He also
explained that the doctor
who terminated the first
pregnancies was still at
large. He however assured
that the suspect would soon
be charged to court to face
the consequence of his
action.

Memory specialist SanDisk
has created an SD card
with 512 gigabytes
(512GB) of storage space -
the highest capacity ever
released.
The card, which is the size of
a postage stamp, will go on
sale for $800 (£490).
The launch comes a decade
after the firm released a
512-megabyte (MB) SD card
with one-thousandth of the
space.
Experts believe SD cards
could eventually hold up to
2 terabytes (TB) of data,
about 2,000GB.
The new card is aimed at
film-makers shooting in the
high-quality 4K format.
The 4K format - which is
four times the resolution of
HD - requires large file
storage. Depending on
compression, a single
minute of 4K shooting will
typically take around 5GB of
storage space.
"4K Ultra HD is an example
of a technology that is
pushing us to develop new
storage solutions capable of
handling massive file sizes,"
said Dinesh Bahal, vice-
president of product
marketing at SanDisk.
The SD card format is one
of the most widely used
standards of flash storage,
popular with digital cameras,
camcorders and other
mobile devices.
While camera types,
resolutions and settings
vary - a 512GB card could
potentially hold around 30
hours of HD video.
Cloud worries
John Delaney, a senior
mobile analyst from IDC,
said innovation in physical
storage was critical to the
future of our devices - even
if a lot of people are turning
to cloud storage instead.
"The thing that is driving
cloud storage is multiple
devices usage - which solves
the, 'Where's my stuff?'
problem: if you use cloud
storage for everything,
whatever device you have
with you can be used to
access your content."
But he added: "So far there's
still a strong preference for
local storage.
"People just feel more in
control and more able to
rely on being able to access
the content when they
literally know where it is.
"Storing in the cloud means
you literally don't know
where it is."
Mr Delaney added that
recent high-profile security
issues around cloud storage
- such as the celebrity
picture leak last week -
would play on the minds of
consumers.

With over 200 schoolgirls
abducted in April still
missing, many Nigerians
are outraged that the #
BringBackOurGirls hashtag
is being adapted as a political slogan for
President Goodluck
Jonathan's re-election.
In one sense, you can
understand what the
president's ers were
thinking. The
#
BringBackOurGirls hashtag,
calling for 200 school girls
abducted by Boko Haram
militants in April, became
one of the world's biggest
ever social media
campaigns. So why not
borrow the slogan for the
president's re-election
campaign?
The hashtag #
BringBackGoodluck2015
seems to have first been
used on Twitter by a group
campaigning on behalf of
the president. On 30th
August, they tweeted: "There
is no vacancy in Aso rock

unclear whether it has been
officially endorsed but it has
been widely used on printed
banners at campaigning
events across the country.
But the slogan seems to
represent a dramatic
misreading of Nigeria's
public mood. The abducted
school girls are still held
captive, despite repeated
promises by the
government - and President
Jonathan himself - to secure
their release. So far, the
government has not taken
military steps to rescue the
girls, arguing that if force is
used to rescue them, they
may end up being killed by
the militants.
There's now a major
backlash against the
hashtag, as people have
taken to Twitter to label it
as insensitive. It has
appeared more than 1,500
times in the last 24 hours,
and the vast majority been
used to criticise the slogan.
"That hashtag is not only
inappropriate but it is
insultingly silly. And it is
bereft of any political tact,"
said one. Another said the
slogan's inventor "has the
combined IQ of 500 frogs.
Why not coin another
hashtag?". "I didn't realize
Boko Haram had kidnapped
the President!"
said a third.
Japheth Omojuwa, a
columnist at Nigerian
newspaper Punch, told BBC
Trending that he felt the
decision to use the slogan
was "absurd".
"They are using variation of
our hashtag #
BringBackOurGirls to
campaign for the president,"
he said. "These are people
that failed to secure the
release of these girls over
150 days since their kidnap."
Terrorist attacks carried out
by Boko Haram are still rife
in the country. Research by
Amnesty International
suggests at least 2,000
people have been killed as
a result of the conflict this
year.
