Criticism is growing after several top positions go to of the president's ethnic Yoruba group

In Nigerian politics, there has long been an informal understanding: presidential appointments should carefully balance the country's many ethnic and religious differences. Today, there are growing concerns that this is being ignored.
While the constitution requires regional representation in cabinet positions, the broader distribution of other prominent roles has traditionally followed a convention aimed at fostering national cohesion.
Nigeria's fractious divisions have in the past torn the country – Africa's most populous – apart.
Concerns about fairness in presidential appointments are not new, but a chorus of criticism is growing over President Bola Tinubu's picks, with some accusing the head of state – who has been in power for two years – of favouring people from his own Yoruba ethnic group.
The presidency vehemently denies the accusation.
There have long been fears that of one ethnic group would come to dominate key positions – and this means that presidential appointments are closely scrutinised whenever they are announced.
There are over 250 ethnic groups in the country with Hausa-Fulanis, Igbo and Yoruba – hailing from the north, south-east and south-west respectively - being the three largest.
Critics say that Tinubu, a southern Muslim, showed signs of ignoring precedent from the onset when he picked another Muslim (although from the north) to be his running mate for the last election.
Since the return of democracy in 1999, the major parties had always put forward a mixed Muslim-Christian ticket, as the country is roughly evenly divided between followers of the two religions.
Tinubu's appointments since becoming president in May 2023 are facing growing cricisim.

They get to Nigeria alright but they are mostly sold on the black market. Who wants to sell for official rate when they can make more on the black market.
Nigeria truly cannot get the full benefit of remittances if the trend continues.

As regards to Authentication at MOE&MOFA, the standard practice there, you will submit all the original documents you want to authenticate with the photopies, educational stick will be put on the back of your original documents only and they will sign on each of your photopies with pen, then you proceed to foreign Affairs, there your originals and photopies will be signed. The reason been that when you go to embassy for legalization, some embassy/individuals may request/prefer the legalization on the original certificate, why other embassy/individuals will want it to be on the photopies, but on those sign with pen from MOE. ONLY educational documents are taken to MOE, why other goes to foreign affairs ie marriage certificate, birth certificate
I think in your own case, affter authentication will scan the original certificate front and back, showing the educational sticker at the back of the documents and send to them.
This whole process...can I have someone in Abuja do it for me...or it has to be me?

I really dont know what people get by chasing shadows.
Tinubu knows what he is doing by deliberating fighting to stop release of said documents. He just stalling for time and hoping y'all would waste your energy on it and miss key details of his other shortcomings.

If one is currently enrolled and actively studying, you do not need to submit a new study permit. The link you attached mentioned it, unless a student attempt to change schools outside of Canada. Students can switch schools if they meet the conditions. It is a free process.
While it is true that U of M allows you to pay per course ed, ing only one course in Fall or Winter is considered studying part time and is against your study permit guidelines. You can only for one course during Summer which is considered a free term( you can study or decide not to study) unless your program specifies you must study during summer term like their accelerated nursing program demands.
You are right. I mixed it up

Not really sir,i think my point was missed.
I intend to get to get to canada before i withdraw from U of Manitoba. U of Manitoba is sayingi must not take 15percent courseload unless i must pay for the semester which i want to avoid.
I saw on IRCC website that i can only take the 150days if its an authorised leave. Does that mean i can only take the 150 day only if Manitoba authorise it or can i just withdraw and move to another province and resume school in January?
someone told me U/Manitoba allows one to and pay for just one course for the semester....u have to confirm this. You need it as you are required to be enrolled and studying before changing school. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/change-schools.html

I don't mind man. Someone else gave me the information for FREE!
I do fullstack web with JavaScript. Express, NextJS, NestJS and ReactJS. With a little bit of AWS and Python.
My first remote job was a recommendation from a former colleague I was nice to one (Be nice to your current colleagues, you never know).
Current one, I just followed tips from one Tim Okonkwo guy on twitter. He calls it the Cold Email strategy. You beef up your LinkedIn Profile and send random emails to people in positions like CTO, Head of IT, Recruiters telling them how you can use your skill to help them. That is to grant you an interview. Then go ahead and kill the interview. Impress them so well. DO NOT BE HUMBLE WITH YOUR SKILL! I Repeat, DO NOT BE HUMBLE WITH YOUR SKILL. If you know it, show it off. No lie shah or lie for your CV, na big turn off for these guys from my experience.
Good luck brother!
Thanks.
One last thing...how many years of experience and did it help secure an interview?

Hello Nairalanders,
I have this decision bothering me. I know it is a personal problem, but I believe everyone need some guidance at every point in life.
Straight to it, I have been considering Japa for over two years now and I think the opportunity might be here but I am having a cold feet.
I recently started working for a foreign company as a software engineer and the pay is decent when converted to Naira. Enough to live an averagely comfortable life. But my challenge now is that, I have been talking to some friends that are outside the country and they keep telling me how life is not easy there and cost of living is super expensive out there.
I currently earn $3000, which I plan to either save and travel or startup a business here in Nigeria. Please, Nairalanders with experience, is it worth japa to live an almost average life for almost the rest of your life or investing here in Nigeria and growing wealth?
The healthcare and quality education benefit is there as an advantage for japa though.
Thanks in advance for your responses!
bro what area of software engineering are you into and how did you secure the remote work?
hope you dont mind sharing

A BBC investigation has found evidence suggesting some results from Nigeria's presidential election may have been manipulated.
The winner Bola Tinubu is due to be inaugurated on 29 May but the opposition is challenging this.
The BBC has uncovered significant anomalies in Rivers state, a key battleground, although not sufficient to change the overall national outcome of the election, which took place in February.
There are also questions over the identity of an election official who read out some of the unexplained results.
Oyigbo election official, Dr Dickson Ariaga, announced his name and that he worked for the Federal College of Education in Omoku.
On the recording, the word "Omoku" is indistinct, but there is only one Federal College of Education in Rivers state.
Dr Ariaga then read out the results for each party in alphabetical order, including for all the smaller parties.
They all matched those on the collation sheet the BBC had obtained. But when he reached Mr Tinubu's APC, instead of saying 2,731 as written on our photograph of the sheet, he read out "16,630".
Then for Mr Obi's party (LP) the figure changed again - instead of the 22,289 seen on the sheet, he announced "10,784", more than halving his vote.
The mystery surrounding Dickson Ariaga
We asked the electoral commission if we could speak to Dr Ariaga, but they would not give us his details or reach out to him for us.
We spoke to the election official seated next to Dr Ariaga, but she told us she wasn't authorised to talk to the press.
So we sent a reporter to the Federal College of Education in Omoku, about two hours drive north of Port Harcourt, where he'd said he worked when introducing himself.
The Deputy Provost Moses Ekpa told the BBC: "From our records, both from our payroll and from our human resources, there is no such a name in our system and we don't know such a person."
Moses Ekpa says the Federal College of Education in Omoku has never heard of Dr Ariaga
We tried tracking him down on social media and eventually came across another Facebook for someone in Port Harcourt, whose profile details had the name Dickson Ariaga.
When we compared an image from this to the television pictures of Dr Ariaga using Amazon Rekognition software, we achieved a match of 97.2%, indicating a very high probability they're the same man.
Dr Ariaga did not respond to messages sent by us to this .

Nigérians are not victims of bad leadership, we are accomplices.
Even those who criticize Okowa today pray to get there someday so they can do worse than him.
About time we said it.
Nigerians are the problem not the leaders they like to blame.
The leaders are only a reflection of the state of the society.

Hey guys I purchased treasury bills of 364-day tenor and got paid a rate (9%) which is lower than the rate at the auction (14.74%)
What could be the reason? Is this normal?
From ChatGPT
It is not unusual to receive a rate lower than the auction rate when purchasing Treasury bills, and there could be several reasons for this.
One possible reason is that the auction rate represents the highest rate at which investors are willing to buy the bills, but not all successful bidders will receive that rate. The actual rate paid to individual investors is determined by a competitive bidding process, where the highest bidders receive the bills at the auction rate, and lower bidders receive the bills at their bid rate.
Another possible reason is that the rate you received may be based on a different pricing mechanism than the auction rate. For example, the auction rate may be based on a yield-to-maturity calculation, while the rate you received may be a discount rate....
