Please am not being negative, just stating the inevitable.
Anywhere their is money and desperation is probably going to be abused in Nigeria (like our NIN and whatever that is ONLINE).
Proactive steps needs to be taken (not sitting in delusion say; 'be positive, hustlers/agents would be law abiding').
Anyway, the port system upgrade is a welcome development.
port Only Takes 2 Weeks & Automated Renewal Coming In March 2024 (2 Months Time)
Immigration Gives Two Weeks For port Production After Online Application The Immigration boss said Nigerians would be able to renew their travel ports without human effective March 8, 2024
Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Caroline Adepoju, on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme
…Says less port Renewal To Begin March 8
The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Wura-Ola Adepoju, says it will take two weeks between the point of application for green ports to be produced.
Adepoju was a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Wednesday, alongside the NIS Deputy Comptroller General, Kemi Nandap.
“Because of the screening that we need to do, we are looking at two weeks as timeframe from the point of application to the point of production,” she said while lamenting that there were so many uncollected ports at Ikoyi office of the Service, amongst others.
Adepoju also said Nigerians would be able to renew their travel ports without human effective March 8, 2024.
The Immigration boss said, “From March 8, everyone applying for renewal will be doing less application because for people who have the Nigerian ports, we have their data, we have their biometrics.
“So, from the comfort of their homes, they can apply for renewal or re-issue of their ports and they would be able to deploy their biometrics like their fingerprints which we will now compare with what we have in our database. If everything goes, then we will be able to issue them the ports they applied for.”
On her part, Nandap said over 46,000 applications have been received since January 8, 2024 when the Service began automation of the port application process.
“We are making it as seamless as possible. From inception, that’s January 8 which was when we went live, we’ve received over 46,000 applications (both fresh and renewal),” she said while appealing to Nigerians to input the right information on the Service’s website.
Also, Adepoju said there is provision for change of data on the portal for port application. On whether immigration officials would lose their jobs, she said, “No, the objective of the automation is to make things seamless, the comfort of our application and national security.”
“From March 8, all the people applying for renewal will be able to do less biometric capturing.”
On efforts put in place to ensure non-Nigerians do not get the green port, Nandap said, “We are meeting with critical stakeholders such NPC and ALGON because an average Nigerian will have to go to their local government to get their certificate of indigeneship.
“We are working tirelessly with these stakeholders to make sure that they also have a proper way of documenting these certificates because they give us these certificates that we use.
“Even if we say it’s seamless and less, we still have officers on ground to do secondary checks to ensure that the person sitting in front of you to be captured for biometrics is actually a Nigerian. we have different levels of checks and ways to making sure that nobody who is a non-Nigerian gets our port.”
Someone somewhere is holding a secret that could sabotage a specific kidnapping if they reported. May be due to danger of speaking out or profit, they keep quiet.
Insecurity: FCT NSCDC asks officials to increase intelligence gathering
The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Capital Territory Command, Olusola Odumosu, has charged officers and men of the command to engage in active intelligence gathering to tackle the current security challenges in the territory.
Odumosu gave the charge during a briefing with personnel at the command’s headquarters in Abuja.
The FCT is facing an alarming surge in insecurity, prompting growing concerns among residents and authorities.
Recently, six sisters and their father in the Bwari Area Council of the FCT were abducted by bandits on January 13, 2024. The killing of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, one of the girls, generated anger among Nigerians.
The sisters were among the 23 others abducted by the bandits who reportedly killed a policeman and injured another one during the attack.
One Folorunsho Ariyo was killed alongside Nabeeha by the hoodlums and their corpses and two other unidentified bodies were reportedly dumped around a former military checkpoint behind Idah Junction along the Bwari-Jere SCC Road in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The commandant in a statement signed by the command spokesperson, Idoko Samuel, on Tuesday, decried the influx of bandits, especially in communities located in the hinterlands and the fringes of the FCT.
He urged the personnel to identify the culprits and ensure they are brought to book.
Odumosu said, “The criminals are not ghosts, they are of the various communities we live in.
“We must therefore intensify efforts by fully activating our intelligence architecture to identify them and ensure they are brought to book.”
“We must therefore intensify efforts by fully activating our intelligence architecture to identify them and ensure they are brought to book.”
He maintained that all hands must be on deck, and called for heightened collaboration and cooperation of his personnel with the people for a seamless exchange of necessary information to bring the fight against insecurity to a logical conclusion.
“While our war against vandals is ongoing, we must beam our searchlight on the issue of kidnapping that has become the order of the day in FCT.
“Without information to work with, there is little or nothing the security agencies can do.
“We must therefore do all we can to bring an end to insecurity by harnessing our areas of strength and using credible intelligence as a tool,” Odumosu added.
The commandant assured residents that the security challenges would be surmountable if everyone played their part.
“Security is everybody’s business and not that of the government or security agencies alone.
“All of us are involved and it is time to forces to restore peace and security to the FCT”, the commandant urged.
Wasn't he the one that was disgraced soon after leaving office (like the very next day)?

It shall never be well with those who spearheaded the release of these murderers
Even people who kill by accident often has problem killing again by accident (not to mentioned these guys that would look a INNOCENT person in his eye and use kitchen knife to slit their head off).
Why not call them by what they are? They are Jihadist terrorists.
The eyewitness described them as terrorists
“ I was sitting outside with some of my friends around 9pm when we first heard gunshots. We stood up to run from the place but the terrorists shouted that we should stop because they were security agents sent to protect us.
“ They knew that when they said they were policemen or soldiers sent to protect us, we will believe them, and that was what happened, ” the source narrated.
The source reiterated that residents were deceived and began to gather at the village square, not knowing that the intruders, some of whom wore military camouflage, were not security operatives but bandits.
He said, “ When the terrorists had circled the residents, they told them to follow them into the forest. That was when I knew they were not security agents. I slipped out of the group and ran back into my house.
“ As of now (Monday morning), we have counted 31 people who had been taken away. Some of them were abducted when they ran outside into the bush because several terrorists were stationed outside the village to lay ambush. ”
The CURRENT process has been taken over by scammers, especially targeting the lines of older people, Nigerians in diaspora, and those with significant bank transactions (allegedly).
If authorities are serious about solving this issue, they should investigate and prosecute those who allegedly duplicated subscribers' NINs (isn't that fraud punishable by up to 2 years in jail?).
Why SIMs are being barred despite linkage to NINs – NCC
The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has said that the duplication of National Identification Numbers is responsible for the new wave of complaints from subscribers who have had their SIMs barred despite linking them to their NINs.
This, according to NCC, is due to the activity of third-party agents who duplicate NINs for unsuspecting telecom subscribers.
The commission revealed this at a recent media briefing in Lagos.
Commenting on the issue, the commission’s Director of Compliance, Mr Efosa Idehen, said, “On the issue of already ed SIMs and NIN, the issue is that some of those SIMs were ed with duplicated NINs.
“When an audit of the system is carried out, actual owners of the NINs reclaim them. We have a lot of things that people do within the industry, especially SIM-NIN linkage for money purposes. Yes, people their SIMs and try to link their NINs but the agents doing those registrations do a lot of damage.
“We are seeing this and want to correct it. We want a situation where when people say they are the owners of their SIMs, there is no doubt.”
This comes from recent complaints by some subscribers that their lines had been barred by telcos despite linking their NINs with their SIM cards.
They came on bikes, but knew people would be suspicious (if they sighted soldier & police on bikes), so they faked a gun battle outside, then entered on foot to direct everyone to their den
JUST-IN: Bandits Disguised As Security Operatives, Kidnap 30 In Katsina
Gunmen suspected to be bandits dressed in military uniforms have kidnapped 31 villagers in a coordinated attack carried out in Tashar Nagule village of Batsari local government area of Katsina State.
A credible source in the area disclosed that the armed men in large numbers appeared in military uniforms inside the community on Sunday night and seized both women, children and men, numbering about 31.
He explained that the assailants had first besieged the community before sending some of their men through the main entrance to kidnap the villagers, while their motorcycles were left outside the community.
“I was sitting outside with some of my friends around 9pm when we first heard gunshots. We stood up to run from the place but the terrorists shouted that we should stop because they were security agents sent to protect us.

LEADERSHIP reports that Batsari LGA and its environs have been under constant attacks of bandits recently, forcing many residents of the area to flee their homes to seek refuge elsewhere in more urban centres.
Meanwhile, the Katsina State Police Command was yet to make any official statement regarding the latest attack as the time of this report
A lot of candidates have issues ing due to NIN and incorrect info.
JAMB say don't hurry to if your info do NOT match (as they try to resolve the issues with NIMC).
UTME 2024: JAMB, NIMC set to meet as applicants face challenges over NIN Following complaints by applicants over challenges posed in their efforts to access or link their NIN with their phone lines, and the incorrect information in NIMC’s record, JAMB said a meeting of the two agencies has been fixed.
One week after the commencement of the sales of forms for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), prospective applicants have expressed frustration over the challenges faced in their efforts to either link their mobile telephone lines with their National Identification Number (NIN) or ‘INCORRECT’ information contained in their NIN details.
UTME is an entrance examination for candidates seeking ission into Nigerian tertiary institutions- universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and monotechnics. It is conducted annually by the t issions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
JAMB has mandated candidates willing to participate in the examination to use their NIN for the application process. It is part of the examination body’s measures to counter malpractices like impersonation.
But following increasing complaints by applicants, their parents, or guardians, JAMB said it already scheduled a meeting with the leadership of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC)- the body in charge of NIN.
Challenges:
Since the sales of forms kicked off on Monday, 15 January, many applicants and their parents and guardians have expressed dissatisfaction with the challenges posed in their efforts to generate their electronic pins for registration.
Abiodun Omole, a guardian to an applicant, said his nephew could not generate the required profile code for registration “even after following the laid down instructions, and repeating the processes many times.”
He said the message he consistently received is “No record found. Send email with NIN and name to [email protected]. Then try again in 4 hours.”
“I have sent the mail more than five times without any response from NIMC. This is disappointing and frustrating,” he said.
Similarly, Musefiu Alabi, said the information supplied for his daughter by NIMC is at variance with what was provided at the registration point.
“The local government area for her state of origin provided during her NIN registration is quite different from what we found at the point of registration. For my son, the date of birth is 25th but we saw 23rd. We are aware changing such requires as much as N15,000 and takes time to take effect,” Mr Alabi said.
He narrated the frustration of many other applicants at a registration centre in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, saying; “These children shouldn’t be made to face this kind of crisis because they are seeking ission into tertiary institutions. Things ought to have improved better than this mess we now face.”
Findings by TIMES revealed that there are numerous other challenges with NIN requiring data updates or correction but many applicants have gone ahead with their registration on the JAMB portal because their parents and guardians said they could not afford extra costs for such services.
“Is it the time for the correction or the money involved? The money required to correct data with NIMC can be used to obtain two UTME forms. Isn’t that crazy? We are not just serious in this country,” another parent who does not want to be quoted told this newspaper.
JAMB pledges intervention:
JAMB has said it is aware of the challenges faced by applicants, especially in connection with their NIN verification and linkage, and pledged swift intervention.
The Head of Public Affairs and Protocol for the examination body, Fabian Benjamin, said JAMB is surprised by the volume of complaints, and that a meeting has been scheduled between the leaderships of the two organisations.
“Both JAMB and NIMC will meet on Monday (today) to address the concerns and I can assure you that these issues will be addressed,” Mr Benjamin said.
He, however, advised applicants who observe incorrect details in their NIN records to halt their UTME registration until the information is updated and corrected by NIMC.
Meanwhile, efforts to get the reaction of NIMC on the development were unsuccessful as calls to the telephone line of the Head of its Public Communications Unit, Kayode Adegoke, were not answered.
LEARNPYTHON:
As long as there is hunger in the land, there's no way we can effectively tackle insecurity and criminality, whether or not the right equipment is available.
If you go to the market, it is difficult not to be depressed. How are people surviving?
