In the statement dated April 15, 2025, the legal body expressed deep concern over the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the State House of Assembly, following the emergency rule declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and approved by the National Assembly.

According to the lawyers, the appointment of Vice iral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) as Sole was initially justified as a means to secure vital federal assets and restore peace. However, they claim that the actions of the Sole have exceeded this mandate.

“Rather than foster peace as promised, tension has steadily escalated while democratic institutions have been dismantled with military-style impunity,” the statement reads. “Boards, agencies, and councils have been dissolved and replaced in violation of due process and existing laws.”

The group particularly decried the appointment of Local Government s in contravention of the Supreme Court’s July 2024 judgment, which outlawed unelected caretaker committees in local councils.

They also slammed the Federal Government’s release of state funds to the Sole without an appropriation law in place, calling it “a selective implementation” of the Supreme Court’s February 2025 judgment.

Another major point of concern was the relocation of the NBA’s Annual General Conference from Port Harcourt to Enugu, which the branch leaders attributed to the political instability and heavy-handedness witnessed in Rivers. “The loss to local businesses, particularly in the hospitality sector, is colossal,” the lawyers said, lamenting that the state missed the opportunity to host over 30,000 lawyers from across the country.

They also condemned the reported assault on peaceful protesters and journalists on April 7 by security forces at the CFC Flyover in Port Harcourt. “Such actions are unacceptable in a democracy. Our Human Rights Committees are ready to pursue legal redress for the victims,” they declared.

The lawyers made five key demands:

On May 18, 2024, during the commissioning of the Andoni section of the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro Unity Road, Governor Fubara announced and approved the construction of a road leading to Oyorokoto. That moment marked the beginning of a transformation that is already rewriting the story of that region.

The project—a 13.5km engineering marvel—is not just a road. It’s a lifeline.

In the dead of night on Sunday, October 29, 2023, chaos struck the Rivers State House of Assembly as hoodlums invaded and set ablaze the hallowed chambers of the Assembly Complex. The fire outbreak severely compromised the structural integrity of the building, making it unsafe for lawmakers and workers alike.

However, the deteriorating condition of the Assembly Complex was not a new concern. The 9th Rivers State House of Assembly had previously expressed worries about its poor state. During the commissioning of the official residence of the Speaker in July 2022, the former Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, openly criticized the deteriorating state of the hallowed chambers. He maintained that project execution was not the responsibility of the legislature but of the executive, promising that his istration would construct a befitting legislative chamber for the lawmakers.

GOVERNOR FUBARA’S PROACTIVE INTERVENTION

True to his leadership style, His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, swiftly moved to assess the damage caused by the fire and to explore possible measures to restore the facility. However, what should have been a routine inspection turned into an orchestrated assault on the Governor himself. Shockingly, overzealous security officials attacked the elected Governor of Rivers State, firing tear gas and water cannons at him. This unprovoked aggression was later revealed to be a ploy to shield certain lawmakers who were attempting to execute an ill-fated impeachment plot against the Governor.

Despite this brazen conspiracy, Governor Fubara remained undeterred. Upon assessing the destruction, he immediately directed security agencies to launch a full-scale investigation into the incident. He also tasked the State Ministry of Works with conducting an integrity test on the facility to determine its viability.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has clarified that Senator Samuel Anyanwu has not been reinstated as the party’s National Secretary following a Supreme Court judgment delivered on Friday, March 21, 2025.

...Barr. Woko urges Rivers to handle crisis like Lagos

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has called on the people of the State to keep standing firm on the side of the truth following the ongoing crisis in the State.

Gov. Fubara, who made the call during the inauguration of the rehabilitated Fire Service Station at Rumuodomaya, Obio-Akpo Local Government Area, on Friday, March 7, 2025, insisted that those ing his istration were doing the right thing.

He said: "I want to appreciate the people of Obio/Akpor for their , I can feel it here. I want to appreciate the of the good people of Rivers State believing in us knowing that your trust is the right thing and that you are standing on the side of truth.

He assured that his istration will continue to do what is right and thanked God for the opportunity given to him to continue in the effort of providing services to the people.

Gov. Fubara said that the fire station is remodeled, rehabilitated and equipped to show that the interest of the people remained most important to his istration.

He explained that the essence of the project is to safeguard the lives of the people and the property of every citizen of Rivers State.

Inaugurating the project, the Special Guest of Honour, Chief Hanny Woko, called for an end to the ongoing political ime in Rivers State, saying that it is giving the state a bad name.

Chief Woko asked the people of Rivers to emulate Lagos State where he said politicians quarreled but immediately found a solution to their problems.

He said: "I want to use this opportunity to call on every reasonable Rivers son and daughter that there should be an end to every conflict. Rivers State has been always in the news for the negative purpose and we condemn that. We should borrow a leave from our sister States. The governors are governing their people without any friction anywhere.

"Yes in human relations there may be room for frictions but what is important is to put the State first. No personal interest should override the collective interest of the state. I urge everyone using this opportunity to borrow a leave from Lagos State.

"They quarreled but they came to a round table to sort out their problem and the state moved on. Rivers State should emulate Lagos. Right now our state is in a turmoil but we thank God that God will continue to give His Excellency the wisdom to manage this crisis and I am absolutely sure that he will come out unscathed and he will serve out his two tenures as statutorily provided in our constitution."

Chief Woko commended the governor for all his laudable projects and for touching the lives of Rivers people despite the ongoing distractions.

According to him, "It is important to know that at the heat of this time you are still going about commissioning projects. There are projects already lined up for two weeks. You have come to serve Rivers State and be assured that Rivers people will protect this democracy and you.

"There is no pretence about it, the love is organic and we will make sure that we will continue to you. As an Ikwerre man this state gave us the privilege and honour to serve for 16 years and some months without any disruptions. Equity and fair play demand that we allow our Ijaw ethnic group to serve out their tenure."

Giving description of the project, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Samuel Anya Gov. Fubara the rare initiative of rehabilitating the facility built by the Rotimi Amaechi's regime and abandoned thereafter without use.

He said the facility has 54 office spaces and accommodation as well as 34,000 capacity water tank to provide fire fighting service to the people.

On his part the Head of Local Government istration in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Ichechi Amadi thanked the governor for prioritizing the interest of the people in remodeling and rehabilitating the Fire Service Station.

He noted that despite distractions and adversities the governor has continued to deliver life impacting projects as the Fire Service Station will mitigate the often fire disasters that have in the past devastated the people.

In a remarkable show of commitment to grassroots governance, the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers has declared its readiness to sponsor the forthcoming Local Government Council elections scheduled for August 9, 2025, should the state government be unable to fund the process due to a lack of federal allocation.

Speaking at the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) stakeholders' meeting held in Port Harcourt, the Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, represented by the Amanyanabo of Oproama, HRH Barr. (Surv.) Tubotamuno Asifamabia Dick-Jaw III (OPOLOBIA IV), commended RSIEC for its timely efforts in organizing the elections. He emphasized that the commission's actions demonstrate a commitment to the people of Rivers State, who are eagerly anticipating a fully functional local government system.

The traditional ruler further revealed that the council, comprising all traditional leaders in the state, has given its full blessings to the electoral process. The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has scheduled a general stakeholders meeting to unveil the timetable and guidelines for the 2025 Local Government Elections in the state.

The meeting, set for Wednesday, March 5, 2025, will take place at RSIEC Headquarters, 239-243 Aba Road, Port Harcourt, by 2:00 PM prompt.

According to a statement signed by the Chairman/Chief Electoral Commissioner, Hon. Justice Adolphus Enebeli (Rtd), key stakeholders expected at the meeting include leaders of ed political parties, traditional rulers, security agencies, religious organizations, media representatives, professional organizations, civil society groups, NGOs, community-based groups, and the electorate.

The highlight of the event will be the official presentation of the election timetable and guidelines, setting the stage for the Local Government Elections across Rivers State.

All invited stakeholders have been urged to be seated at the RSIEC Auditorium by 2:00 PM sharp to ensure a smooth and timely engagement.

For years, the Mile One Fire Service Station stood as a shadow of its former self, a neglected relic of a system that had failed to prioritize emergency response infrastructure.

Dilapidated buildings, abandoned equipment, and an overall state of decay made it a mere shell rather than a functioning lifesaving facility.

But today, that narrative has changed, thanks to the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In a few hours, the newly rehabilitated Mile One Fire Service Station will be officially commissioned and restored to its full operational capacity, to the glory of God and for the service of the people.

REMARKS AT THE VISIT OF THE OF THE RIVERS STATE CAUCUS IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

FALSE NARRATIVE BY SOME RIVERS STATE LAWMAKERS IN THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY, ABUJA: THE TRUE STATE OF AFFAIRS AND SETTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT ON THE SITUATION IN RIVERS STATE.

PROTOCOLS.

1.) Our attention was recently drawn to a visit as well as a Press Conference by some Rivers State National Assembly in sympathy with former Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule and his group-Committee of Former Lawmakers.

2.) At the press conference, the group claimed "to put a stop to the falsehood and misrepresentation of facts on the judgments of courts as it affects the Rivers State House of Assembly and the Governor of Rivers State".

3.) However, contrary to the false claim by the group, the truth of the matter is that the objective of the Press Conference was to mislead the public on the true situation in Rivers State. It thus becomes necessary on our part to set the records straight and put the public in proper perspective, because lies unrebutted soon overtakes the truth. Besides, as Mark Twain once said, "A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes."

4.) To set the records straight, the true position regarding applicability of the judgment of His Lordship, Hon Justice Omotosho in the case of RIVERS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY Vs. THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA (SUIT NO: FHC/ABJ/CS/1613/2023), is as follows:

a.) The judgment of Hon Justice Omotosho does not touch on the status of Rt Hor Martin Amaewhule and his group of 27 as former of the Rivers State House of Assembly;

b.) Rt Hon Martin Amaewhule and 26 others had lost their seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly following their voluntary defection/cross-carpeting which happened on the floor of the House of Assembly in the full glare of the public on 11th December 2023.

c.) In a plethora of cases including DAPIANLONG Vs. DARIYE (2007) 8 NWLR (Pt.
1036) p. 332 (SC) and A.G. FEDERATION Vs. ABUBAKAR ((2007) 10 NWLR (PT 1041) 1 at 178 (SC), the Supreme Court of Nigeria had declared that the proper and only interpretation to be given to the provisions of Section 109(1)(g) and Section 68(1)(g) of the Constitution of The 1999 Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended is that an elected lawmaker in Nigeria who after an election on the platform of a particular political party, defects to another political party, AUTOMATICALLY loses his seat in the affected legislative House from the date of his or her defection.

The pronouncements of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in these cases, having not been set aside nor overruled in any subsequent judgment of the Supreme Court, remain the law till date on issues of defection of a member of a legislative House in Nigeria. Also, in the case of ABEGUNDE Vs. ONDO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY (2014) LPELR-23683 (CA), the Nigerian Court of Appeal reiterating the law as affirmed by the Supreme Court, made it clear that loss of seat upon such defection is both AUTOMATIC and MANDATORY.

d.) The legal effect of these provisions and the Supreme Court judgments is that, as of 11th December, 2023 when Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule read out the letters of defection of himself and 26 others on the floor of the Rivers State House of Assembly, they lost their seats and automatically and mandatorily became former of the House.

e.) The only legal implication of the above is that, Hon Martins Amaewhule and his group of 27, remain former of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and accordingly are no longer entitled to parade themselves as of the House or to partake in any business or affair of the House.

f.) It is worthy to note that neither the fact of their defection nor any issue relating to their defection nor on their status as former lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly was raised, submitted or discussed in the proceedings leading to the 22 January 2024 judgment of Hon Justice Omotosho.

Instead of placing before the Federal High Court, the truth and material facts about their status as ex-lawmakers, to afford the Honourable Court an opportunity of deciding on the real issues, the claimants in that case (Hon Amaewhule and co) craftily invented lies and falsehood calculated to mislead the Honourable Court. Unfortunately, it is common knowledge that, Truth exists, and it does not go away just because one has invented lies. In Elvis Pasley's words, "Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain't goin' away." No matter how fast a lie runs, the truth will someday overtake it.

g.) Another material fact is whether the Oko-Jumbo led lawmakers can carry on with businesses of the House after the others automatically and mandatorily lost their seats by virtue of their voluntary defection.

This issue was not raised nor discussed in the Hon Justice Omotosho judgment which is thus inapplicable in the circumstance. However, the rule that applies in the circumstance has long been laid down by His Lordship, the Hon Justice Walter Onnoghen, JSC (as he then was, while delivering the lead judgment in the Supreme Court case of DAPIANLONG V DARIYE when he declared that "There is no doubt that there existed in the Plateau State House of Assembly 14 vacant seats as a result of cross carpeting.

It is my view that until the vacancies created by the carpet crossing are filled by the process of by-election, the Plateau State House of Assembly can only transact such legislative duties that require the participation of less than 2/3 majority of ALL the of that House, which duties definitely excludes impeachment proceedings", This position is yet to be overruled by any court in Nigeria, and thus remains the law.

h.) The Press Statement by the said Rivers Abuja Lawmakers in sympathy with Hon Martins Amaewhule and his group of former lawmakers during their visit which, claims that "there were several reliefs aside from the presentation of the 2024 budget sought by the Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule led Assembly before the Hon. Justice J.K. Omotosho" in FHC/ABJ/CS/1613/2023 (RIVERS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY V. THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA).

Contrary to the above false claim, the truth they have chosen to continue to hide from the public is that none of the said "several reliefs" in that case touches on the two material issues in the matter, namely:

The legal effect of the defection of an elected legislator in Nigeria; and (b) whether the remaining minority lawmakers can carry on with businesses of the House. The judgment of Hon Justice Omotosho does not affect issues not submitted for determination in the case.

i.) In deciphering what the Court decided in the judgment in FHC/ABJ/CS/1613/2023, it is the contents of the judgment that will be looked at and not what the parties assumed the Court to be saying. This position has been affirmed by the Nigerian appellate Courts. See for example AYITO Vs. COMMISSIONER OF LANDS & HOUSING (CROSS RIVER STATE) & ORS (2021) LPELR-54588(CA) (pp. 28 paras. D).

The misleading overtures of Amaewhule and his group cannot make the judgment of Hon Justice Omotosho to become relevant to issues not decided in the case. Hon Martins Amaewhule and his co-travellers appear to have lost sight of the trite position of the law, that a case is an authority only for what it decides which was emphasized in the Supreme Court case of OGWUCHE Vs. AGBO & ORS (2023) LPELR-60207(SC) (Pp. 23-24 paras. F).

The judgment of Hon Justice Omotosho is an authority and relevant only for what it decided. The law is that judgment must always be read in the light of the facts on which the case was decided, and must not be stretched beyond the facts presented before that Court. See OBIOMA Vs. STATE (2020) 3 NWLR Part 1710, Page 45 at 61 Para D-G per Kekere-Ekun, JSC.

5.) It is laughable that the group of former lawmakers led by Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule are now claiming that their defection "never took place." It is unfortunate that these dishonest characters "in the words of Prof. Lumunba are they truly Honourable or Horrible ?." had in 2023 found themselves into the House of Assembly of Rivers State as lawmakers but unfortunately, by their own VOLUNTARY defection on the floor of the House on 11th December 2023, got themselves out of the House. Evidence of their defection is everywhere for the public to see including an affidavit sworn before Hon. Justice Okoronkwo. These afterthought and feeble attempts to deceive the public are a waste of time as most of the Nigerian public and legal stakeholders in Nigeria are now too enlightened and too knowledgeable in the situation in Rivers State to be misled by the dishonest antics and laughable volte-face by Amaewhule and his group of ex lawmakers.

6.) As one who has sworn to defend the Rule of law, the Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara will continue to uphold the Nigerian Constitution and the Rule of Law in Rivers State. The Governor has never disrespected and will never disrespect the Court of law.

7. We therefore call on the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the National Judicial Council, the Chief Justice of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, all institutions in Nigeria, as well as well-meaning Nigerians to ignore the mischievous and deliberate misrepresentation of the facts and the effect of the judgment of Hon Justice Omotosho on the situation in Rivers State by Hon Amaewhule and co. It was George Washington who advised that "The Constitution is the ultimate guide which we must never abandon." In his own words, Abraham Lincoln has this to say about the supremacy of the Constitution: "Don't interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties."

In the words of Booker T. Washington "A lie doesn't become truth, wrong doesn't become right, and evil doesn't become good, just because it's accepted by a majority"

At an inauguration ceremony in Abuja on Thursday, January 30, 2025, Hon. Prince Solomon Abel Eke, Rivers State Commissioner for Power, represented the state in the Steering Committee on Renewable Energy in Nigeria, a program championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in collaboration with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

The initiative, led by the Ministry of Power, seeks to improve healthcare services by ensuring round-the-clock power supply to PHCs across the country, with from the European Union (EU). Commissioners of power from all 36 states and the FCT were officially inaugurated as steering committee chairmen to oversee the project’s rollout in their respective states.

Speaking after the inauguration, Hon. Solomon Abel Eke reaffirmed that his participation was on the directive of Governor Sim Fubara, who is committed to securing maximum benefits for Rivers State.

"Governor Siminalayi Fubara is determined to make sure Rivers State is not sidelined in national development programs. I am here to protect our interests and ensure our people enjoy the benefits of this initiative," Hon. Eke stated.

The visit followed the ing of Makinde’s elder brother, Sunday Makinde, who died in the early hours of Friday after a brief illness at the age of 65.

Leading the delegation, Chairman of the forum and Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, commended Makinde for his resilience, noting that despite his personal loss, he remained committed to his duties. He assured Makinde of the forum’s unwavering during this difficult time.

Jubilation filled the air in Okarki, Akinima, and Ubarama communities as the Rivers State Government officially commissioned the rehabilitated power line reconnecting them to the national grid. The long-awaited milestone marks a turning point for the residents, who now look forward to brighter nights and a surge in economic activities.

The project, spearheaded by the Ministry of Power under the leadership of Hon. Solomon Abel Eke, underscores Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s vision for sustainable development and improved quality of life for all Rivers citizens. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Eke described the initiative as a testament to the istration’s unwavering commitment to delivering essential services.

“This achievement reflects His Excellency’s determination to provide a 24-hour power supply and drive sustainable development across the state,” Hon. Eke declared.

The power restoration project saw the replacement of vandalized high-tension poles, electrical wires, transformers, and other critical components. Hon. Eke applauded the proactive leadership of Hon. Iyekor Ikporo, Chairman of Ahoada West LGA, for his swift action in addressing the community’s power challenges.

“The Chairman’s dedication to bringing light back to Okarki Kingdom within a short time highlights the importance of responsive governance,” he said.

Traditional rulers, community stakeholders, and excited residents were present to witness the historic event, with many expressing gratitude for the transformative impact of the project.

The Commissioner revealed that the Rivers State Government has ambitious plans to stabilize and diversify power supply across the state. Beyond grid restoration, the roap includes integrating renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and waste-to-energy solutions.

“We’re not stopping here. The Ministry of Power is committed to ensuring every community in Rivers State benefits from stable and efficient electricity,” Hon. Eke assured.

He also urged community to safeguard the newly restored infrastructure, warning against vandalism that could hinder future progress.

“This powerline belongs to you. Protect it as a legacy for generations to come,” he implored.

As the first sparks of electricity lit up homes in Okarki, Akinima, and Ubarama, the communities celebrated not just a return.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the undisputed leader of the party in Rivers State, following a critical consultative meeting in Port Harcourt.

The closed-door session at the Government House saw NWC extolling Governor Fubara's leadership and lauding a recent court judgment nullifying the controversial PDP congresses in the state, which had led to the emergence of Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron. Following the court ruling, Hon. Robinson Nname Ewor was appointed as the acting chairman of the party.

Speaking to reporters, PDP National Treasurer Ahmed Yayari Mohammed described the visit as part of efforts to realign the party and strategize for a comeback in 2027. He emphasized the party’s commitment to unity, stability, and repositioning under Governor Fubara's watch.

"We appreciate the Governor's doggedness in stabilizing the PDP in Rivers State. This is part of our broader strategy to ensure that the PDP is ready to take over governance, both at the federal and in more states, come May 2027," Mohammed said.

The NWC also used the opportunity to back Sir Ude Okoye, whose position as National Secretary was recently reinstated by the Court of Appeal. Mohammed reaffirmed that no legal hurdles exist to challenge Okoye's role, calling for continued from governors and stakeholders.

PDP NWC AFFIRMS GOV FUBARA AS PARTY LEADER IN RIVERS

In a calculated attempt to tarnish the reputation of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Lere Olayinka, the self-styled Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, stormed News Central TV with a cocktail of lies, half-truths and shameless distortions. This desperate smear campaign demands a bold response to expose the true mastermind behind the political turbulence rocking Rivers State.

Lere harped on the current situation of the Rivers State House of Assembly, highlighting the presence of only three (3) active . Yet, he conveniently glossed over the real story of Martin Amaewhule and his co-defectors who cowardly abandoned their constituencies and their mandates by defecting to the APC without due consultation. These former legislators, by law, automatically vacated their seats, but Lere lacks the courage to it this truth.

When asked about Wike’s involvement in Rivers State’s political turmoil, Lere could not deny the undeniable. Wike is not only a major player in this crisis but also its architect. His meddlesome tendencies and attempts to control the state from Abuja have been met with stiff resistance from Rivers people who are fed up with his overreach.

Lere’s claim that Wike elevated Governor Fubara from "a mere cashier" to governor reeks of pettiness. It’s an insult to Fubara’s track record of service and to the Rivers people who overwhelmingly voted for him. The truth is, Governor Fubara was instrumental to any success Wike claims during his time as governor, especially in financial prudence and project execution, Lere can challenge me to a debate if in doubt.

Mr. Lere falsely accused Governor Fubara of disobeying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The irony, however, is glaring. The real defiance came from those who President Tinubu called his "newborn babies," only to disown him days later. Aside the impeachment attempt, Wike’s ill-advised push for these individuals to defect to the APC is at the root of the political mess they currently face.

Lere’s ission that Fubara is the governor and wields the "red biro" underscores one truth: GOV. SIM FUBARA IS IN CHARGE. While his employer may attempt to pull the strings of discord, Rivers people have declared unequivocally that the era of external interference is over. Sir Fubara is taking bold steps to restore dignity and prioritize the state’s interests.

Also, Lere’s attempt to draw parallels between Rivers State and Kogi State only highlights his lack of understanding of Rivers politics. Rivers people are not Kogi people. They will not accept a situation where commissioners or key appointments are dictated from only one man, as Wike attempted to do. Rivers people have spoken, and their stance is non-negotiable.

Lere’s laughable claim that Governor Fubara is dining with those who opposed his emergence shows a lack of political depth. Almost everyone standing with Wike today—including Magnus Abe and Chidi Lloyd—at one time opposed his own governorship bid. Politics evolves and alliances shift. Governor Fubara is focused on governance, not on petty vendettas.

Assuming, without conceding, that Governor Fubara did not address Rivers people during the campaign, the blame lies squarely on Wike, who perhaps never allowed him to speak. He almost succeeded in extending this overbearing tendencies into the governance of the state, but Rivers people are saying “No” to this meddlesome interference.

The glaring contradictions in Lere’s rhetoric can tell you why Fayose failed woefully in Ekiti State despite all his noise. Just like his principal, Lere has mastered the art of bluster without substance.

When pressed on what Wike wants from Governor Fubara that he isn’t getting, Lere could not provide an answer. The truth is simple: Wike desires absolute control, but Gov. Fubara and Rivers people have drawn the line.

Lere Olayinka’s interview on News Central TV was nothing but a desperate attempt to deflect attention from Wike’s political blunders and meddlesome tendencies. The records are clear: Governor Sim Fubara is focused on the interests of Rivers people, while Wike and his cronies remain trapped in a web of personal ambition.

The good news is that Rivers people know the truth. Governor Fubara is acting decisively and Rivers State is moving forward under his leadership. No amount of propaganda or falsehoods can change this fact.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (F.C.T) is clearly having sleepless nights. His frustration with the internal politics of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) is spilling into the public domain, and this time, the stakes are fatally high.

At the heart of the drama is the landmark judgment from the Rivers State High Court, which nullified the purported PDP ward, local government, and state congresses. This ruling effectively cleared the path for the Hon Nname Robinson Ewor-led executive to take charge. But here’s the catch: only the PDP National Working Committee through the National Legal Adviser, as a party to the suit, has the legal standing to appeal this decision.

Aaron Chukwuemeka, a known ally of the minister and an eager player in this unfolding drama, has no legal basis to wade into the matter—he wasn’t even a party to the suit. This legal technicality has left the minister scrambling for relevance as his influence over the PDP National Working Committee wanes.

And now, the Minister finds himself in a tight spot. His grip on the PDP’s internal politics appears to be slipping, and with this latest court ruling, his political strategy seems to be unraveling faster than he can salvage it.

It’s no surprise, then, that his recent lamentations have taken on a tone of desperation. What else could one expect? The cracks in his political fortress have widened, leaving him to confront an uncomfortable reality: the structures are fast collapsing.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 pledged the release of N50Million as his istration to widows of Nigeria fallen heroes on a note that no amount given by the nation can pay for the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives to preserve the country for the living.

Gov. Fubara, who addressed guests, legionnaires and of the armed forces, who gathered for the occasion of 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at the Government House Parade Ground, said the money will enable the widows handle pressing issues such as school fees, house rents and their businesses and as part of his istration's social welfare.

He said the ceremony is to reflect on and celebrate the bravery of veterans, whose dedication safeguarded the nation's territorial integrity and preserved its sovereignty.

The governor, who highlighted the past and present security challenges in the country including internal threats from terrorism and armed insurgency, commended the armed forces for standing firm and defending the country.

He observed that despite the ongoing ceremony, many servicemen and women remained on the front lines, courageously combating insurgencies and other threats to security.

He said such ensuing battles came with tremendous cost as thousands of soldiers had paid the supreme price, and many others returned with life-altering injuries

The governor noted that only the brave could forsake the comfort of family and home to protect the lives and freedom of millions adding that without their heroism, the country would not continue to enjoy peace and freedom.

Sir Fubara commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts in prioritising the welfare of the Nigerian Armed Forces and pledged his loyalty, and collaboration.

In a solemn speech Gov. Fubara asserted: "But beyond our words of tribute, this day reminds us of our responsibility towards you and your families, especially the widows, children, and aged parents left behind by those who made the ultimate sacrifice."

He added that, "As a government, we remain committed to the welfare and well-being of the Nigerian armed forces, both serving and retired, and their families"; emphasizing that in Rivers State, his government has fulfilled past promises made to the Nigerian Legion, and assured of his commitment to implement targeted policies and programs in order to improve their living conditions."

He said, "We will prioritize the inclusion of families of our fallen heroes in our social welfare and investment programmes", and used the occasion to call on well-meaning citizens and private organizations to extend their to the families of the veterans and fallen heroes in order to help them overcome the economic challenges they often face.

According to him, "The peace and security of our nation remain a collective responsibility. Let us all work together to our armed forces and security agencies in overcoming the challenges we face and ensuring that every corner of our country is peaceful and secure."

Gov. Fubara further called on the citizens to rally around the armed forces and work together to strengthen the national unity, adding that there must be concerted efforts to ensure that every section of the country feels included and valued, fostering a stronger and more cohesive Nigeria.

"I won't end this address without ing the widows of the fallen heroes. To that effect I on behalf of the government and the good people of Rivers State pledge the sum of N50million solely for the welfare of the widows.

"This sum shall be redeemed tomorrow to enable them handle pressing issues such as school fees, house rents, and also their businesses as well as other sundry matters. It is our modest way of appreciating the sacrifices made by their departed ones".

Gov. Fubara also used the occasion to pay tribute to an expatriate, Mr. Gibson Reuben, Managing Director of Rivers State Cassava Project Limited who lost his life on Monday in an accident at a bridge in Eleme section of the East- West road.

In his remarks, the Acting State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Rivers State chapter, ACC Kuu Promise, thanked Gov. Fubara for sponsoring the occasion and ing the welfare of veterans in the State describing the governor's gestures as major lifeline of livelihood and sustenance of their children in schools.

Promise appealed to the governor to assist legionnaires in locating their office within the Isaac Boro Park Military Cenotaph, the memorial ground where the fallen heroes are honoured annually.
