TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN I am a writer. I can draw inspiration from anything and everything. This evening I came across sam's transcript and I was inspired to write a story about an approved visa. I did and I shared it here tonight. I am sorry if I mislead anybody but I refuse to apologize for the smile/ laughter it put on your faces because believe it or not, you all deserve to be happy. My real visa interview is in a couple of weeks from now and I pray I'd also get a white paper like I did in my story. Then I'd be truly worthy of the congratulatory responses I have received so far. Ultimately, I do what I do because this is one place I can be myself. This is home, you are family ![]() ![]() ![]() 18 Likes 3 Shares |

TALE OF AN APPROVED VISA Written by Miss Sharwama ![]() ![]() ![]() I my heart pounding as I had my bath at 4:30 a.m. yesterday. I was so afraid, I couldn’t even sponge properly. I kept asking myself, “Sharwama after all the noise you have been making on NL, what if you get denied?” “What if you stutter and can’t make eye with the VO”… As I applied cream on my chocolate skin, I hearing a very gentle voice “Sharwama be still and know that I am God, I have gone ahead of you to make the crooked places straight”. This really gave me courage. My uncle drove me to the embassy; my interview was at 6:30 a.m. and I got there right on time. I followed all the processes and protocol kini and then I came face-to-face with the visa officer. I paid no attention to the window number. I said a mental prayer “Father, the hour has come, glorify your daughter” and the Lord spoke to me “Sharwama, I have glorified you before and I will do it again”. VO: Good morning and how are you? Sharwama: Good morning. I am not sure how I feel; I have butterflies in my stomach. VO: (Smiles) I understand how you feel, this won’t take much time. me your I-20, port and SEVIS receipt (I did) VO: Why do you need this visa? Sharwama: I want to pursue a masters in Biology Program at East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, Tennessee. I can’t do that if my visa isn’t approved. VO: I see here that your sponsor is your mother but you also have a graduate assistantship, I am impressed! Sharwama: I am glad you are. VO: I will be approving your visa (hands me the white paper with circled location. Gave me back my I-20 and SEVIS receipt. Said the whole tyonteugdfvcvnm, jklpewszxcvbnmi but I didn’t hear anything. When she was done talking, I was still staring at her. The next person was already behind me) VO: You can leave now Sharwama: Is that all? You didn’t ask why I chose ETSU, the schools I applied to, what I have been doing since, you didn’t ask my study plan or even what this degree would do for me or my plans after completion? (She was about interrupting but I burst into tears) Sharwarma: Do you know how much the bank charged my sponsor in order to print statements of her multiple s? Or the stress it took to colour-print my GRE and TOEFL scores? I nearly had an accident you know. So what would I do with these papers now? Maybe you don’t know this, but I spent the last three months of my life, waking up in the middle of the night to rehearse for this interview and all you did was ask THREE questions? Would you please interview me again? Her mouth was wide open, her eyes were all out of the socket, and she was in utter shock! Next, a security officer approached me. I knew he would show me out. As he led me, I tightly held on to the white paper and my documents. For some reason, I turned to the VO and saw her smiling at me. I wiped my tears and smiled back. Right there in that moment, I knew she would go to bed with memories of a crazy girl who had her F1 visa approved effortlessly and just couldn’t believe it. Yes, I tasting something in my mouth, kinda tasted like Ribena and I kept licking my mouth till I opened my eyes and saw Martins, my little nephew with Ribena in his hands. It was 7:30 a.m.; I jumped out of bed, knowing I would be late for work. I hurriedly had my bath, brushed my teeth, there was no time for the normal early morning pooing. I ran out of the house, stopped Keke and entered. As he drove me, I couldn’t help but smile. Although, I knew my boss would query me for coming late, I was grateful because my beautiful dream was worth it… Written by the girl who keeps seeing V.O’s in her sleep. I'm not sure how I feel about this at all. I cringe when I imagine the impact your "persuasion" would have on your self-respect and integrity. What would she think of you? Besides, Americans value honour, I do not see her accepting. Perhaps you think so little of the I-20 but it's a vital legal document. Whatever is written, binds. Please do not do this. I have read transcripts of people whose visas got approved and they didn't even have the almighty funding. I wish I could write more, but what do I know. May His wisdom be with you my friend. brainy02: 7 Likes |

Abort! Abort mission! Don't even think about it! Don't contemplate it! Do you copy? I repeat abort!!! As long as the school didn't request a deposit before issuing your I-20, please abort! Keep that money and use it to bolster your financial credibility for your visa interview. Once again my friend, ABORT!!! yemyem4uall: 3 Likes |

Congratulations on your ission my friend. ETSU takes the financial statement seriously, like they are really strict about it but they are also very understanding. You have two options. 1) Even if your dad is out of the country, he can always request an online bank statement. All my sponsor had to do was call her officer and request the SOA be sent to MY email address in PDF. I forwarded the document as received. END OF STORY. 2) You should be able to change your sponsor. That means you would have to complete another affidavit of form and your mum has to append her signature. A note of caution: your I-20 will contain your sponsor's name, as in it will be boldly written on it! You can't change it after that. So please take time and consider your options because of your visa interview( between your mum and your dad, who has more financial credibility in the long run) keji157: 2 Likes |

PRE–VISA INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT: A NECESSARY EVIL An article by Miss Sharwama ![]() So me and my guys we are at the bar drinking beer and enjoying Mama Nkechi’s barbecue. Life is good after all. Suddenly, Remi asks me, “Babe do you like football” and I am like “Hiaaa! What kind of question is that biko? Of course I love football” He goes further to ask “What’s your favourite team”, I smile and reply “Man. City?” Remi asks why and I respond “Because the sky is blue and Serena Williams plays for Man. City. Did you know she scored the hat trick that won them the AFCON championship!!! Remi instantly drops his bottle of beer, snaps his fingers in surprise, the other guys are laughing out loud and me, I burst into tears, feeling so stupid. I have succeeded in convincing them that I am neither a genuine football fan nor a fan of Man. City! This is similar to what happens when you attend a F1 visa interview unprepared and you end up not convincing the visa officer that you are a genuine student. So why do you need a transcript? Good question! To fill you with substance. Dieticians say we are what we eat, but in academia, we strongly believe, you are what you read, you are what you know, you are the skills you have. So the pre-interview transcript is meant to equip you with the necessary information needed to prove genuine studentship, to show that you are sound enough to deal with the rigours and academic demands of the school/program. For example, some students applied to schools without doing intensive research, they know nothing about the requisite curriculum, they simply applied because their friend(s) did too, or because a friend got funding or because the school doesn’t require GRE or is non-selective or they read about it on Nairaland( or other media platforms) or someone suggested it. But if such a student were to prepare a transcript, they would have to read extensively about the school, research more on the program, courses to be taken before completing the degree, and be able to answer why they chose it, why that school or program stood out for them or even why they chose the country! They would be able to talk about their career goals and future plans? Do you see where this is going? Information is power! So yes, the transcript is a necessary evil. It is evil because most students end up cramming it, regurgitating it word for word, back to back and when they are asked what is not on the transcript, they begin to fumble and stutter ( they never expected it). Now, I must draw attention to this truth: knowing what to say is never as important as how you say it (your body language, your tone/pitch), how you sell the pieces of information. So knowledge is important but the ultimate test is the delivery. This is why I don’t schools in Nigeria offering first class graduates lecturing position simply because of their intellectual capability. It is one thing to know, it another to teach/express what you know. Do you see how important delivery is? Again and again, the transcript is neither to be crammed nor memorized. Every VO can tell the difference between a human and a robot. The transcript is meant to be your com, pointing you in the right direction, helping you stay on course. It is meant to be your flashlight if you ever encounter any darkness. It is NOT the Alpha and Omega of your interview. The transcript is meant to boost your confidence and NOT BE YOUR CONFIDENCE, it is meant to resonate the can-do spirit within you. It is meant to ginger your swagger so when you are on that queue even if the persons ahead of you got denied, your morale will still be high. Yes, you have done your homework! Ultimately, on the day of your interview, please remind yourself, you already have SUBSTANCE; you just need to have a CONVERSATION. Most people love a good conversation and sometimes we go to bed with a big smile on our face, simply because we ed an amazing conversation we had with someone earlier. BELIEVE in yourself, BREATHE, LOOK, SMILE, CONVERSE. May the force be with you! Written by the girl who‘s yet to have a conversation with the VO. Inspired by anxiety ![]() 20 Likes |

Sending love and light to your friend from someone who found ing her port photograph extremely challenging as well. The thing suffer suffer me I no lie you, the site just dey speak big big grammar every time, the kin port e no gree collect. I even run con here come beg for help too sef. Las las, e collect ![]() At the end of the day, my experience taught me few things: 1)The site dey craze for daytime sometimes, the madness dey cure as from 12 midnight down, e go be like say dem pour am ice water. I pray she has a personal computer ![]() 2)Let her ensure she has a strong network connection. 3)Does the port photograph meet all the standards specified? 4) Is she trying to a scanned version or the original soft copy? I ask because scanning altered my port quality, it shrunk the size, made it less clear and all that, the site kept rejecting it. If it's a soft copy, was it sent through WhatsApp/Email or directly to a storage device? I ask because WhatsApp is the enemy, it compresses pictures, diminishes the quality and all that, except you deliberately send the picture as a DOCUMENT(that way, the quality remains unaltered) I may not have been able to answer your question or provide the necessary help, but I pray this information would be useful, one way or the other. At all at all na winch, I dey go sleep ![]() ![]() ![]() Allylic: |
