It is the end of yet another weekend dedicated to Club football, and as is to be expected, they were lots of notable events that took place in each of the different leagues. One among such is the fact that four different Nigerian footballers were on the score sheet for their individual teams all across Europe. There are 1. Paul Onuachu: The 26 year old was on the score sheet in Belgian Pro League side, Genk's 4:0 win over St. Truidence today afternoon. His 53rd minute goal sealed the win for his team. 2. Victor Osimehn: 22 year Old Victor Osimehn also sealed a 2:0 win in Napoli's game vs Sampdoria earlier today. His goal was scored in the heat of the match, at the 87th minute and pretty much guided his side to a comfortable 2:0 victory. 3. Kelechi Iheanacho: Although his side lost 3:2 to a Jesse Lingard inspired West Ham side earlier today, 24 year Iheanacho scored a the brace that gave Leicester city a fighting chance in the game. In the end, the game didn't end on a favourable term for his team, his impact in the game however cannot be easily overlooked. 4. Nwankwo Simy The 28 year old Nigerian who plays for Serie A side, Crotone FC was also on the score sheet of his side's 3:2 loss to Spezia yesterday. His goal in the 78th minute put his team level at 2:2 and also gave them a fighting chance up until the 90th minute when Spezia scored a lucky goal to take home all 3 points. Simy's goal marks his 14th of the Serie A season, the 8th highest in the Serie A so far this season.

Footballers who had initially travelled for some of the international matches held during the international break, have all returned back to their separate clubs in the different leagues as club football officially returns today. As if to make up for the long vacuum left behind in club football over the last two weeks, this weekend has been blessed with more than 5 strong rivalries across the five leagues in Europe. Although over 40 matches will be played this weekend, these five below are the most long anticipated. 1. PSG vs Lille: PSG will battle their close second on the Ligue 1 table, Lille on Saturday, that is tomorrow. At 30 matches played, both teams are ties at 63 points each. The match will be played on Saturday. 3. Leicester City Manchester City: Another tough clash slated for tomorrow, Saturday. 4. Arsenal vs Liverpool (Saturday) 5. Sevilla vs Athletico (Sunday) Other notable mentions are Borussia Dortmund vs Eintracht Frankfurt, Juventus vs Torino among others. Which one are you watching out for?

The recently concluded international break was one with a lot of notable events and occurrences, one among which is what happened in Portugal's world cup qualifiers encounter with Serbia on the 27th of March. Although Portugal started the lead at 2:0, the game ended 2:2 after Serbia's comeback. Ronaldo's 90+3 minute goal which was clear to many was cancelled by the referee, and Ronaldo in a fit of rage warded of the pitch throwing away his Captain armband in the process The armband was however picked up by a stadium worker, and was later obtained by a charity organisation who put it up on auction to raise money to foot the surgery bills of a 6 month old boy from Serbia with Spinal muscular astrophy. ESPN FC reported earlier today that the arm band has now raised €64,000 (about 28.6 million naira). Even after an an unpleasant day for Cristiano Ronaldo, he still ended up unknowingly saving a sick child. Applaudable

Manchester United and English player, Marcus Rashford took to his Twitter page yesterday to engage his over four million followers. In his tweet, he went "let's chat. Who's got a question?" and as expected, the post garnered a huge amount of engagement with his fans asking a whole variety of questions. A Nigerian Twitter with the handle @Jonyilo also ed the train of questioning when he asked the English player if he listened to afro beats, and who his favourite afro beats artiste is at the moment. Shortly after, Rashford replied by tagging the artiste who is apparently his favourite afro beats artiste, and it was none other than the self proclaimed African giant and Grammy award winner, Burnaboy. It's no doubt the Port Harcourt born artiste is having the time of his life, what with winning the highly coveted Grammy award, and a host of international collaborations with A-list acts including Sia, and Justin Bieber. No Nigerian or even African artiste at the moment can boast of the international recognitions the artiste has been getting.

paulolee: 1. Yeah, Neymar and his injury jinx kind of ruined the expectations of the Barca v PSG fixture. 2. It's really seeming that way based on Athletico's incredible form and dominance in their league. But well, still keeping my fingers crossed for Chelsea. 3. Agreed, the hunger seems to be diminishing but those guys always knows how to turn up in big games.. they really are still the favourites to win the trophy 4. Indeed a tall order.. They are some really tough teams in the way. 5. I agree.. It'll be something of a miracle if they can even get past PSG.. |

The UEFA Champions League football will officially return to continue with its round of 16 draw today, 16th of February 2021. The last matches of the group stages were played on the 9th of December 2020 with 16 teams qualifying for the next stage (round of 16) and sixteen others dropping to the Europa League after failing to finish either first or second in their individual groups. Notable among the teams that dropped are Man United, Inter Milan, and AFC Ajax. Now to the point, as the Round of 16 stage of the competition returns today, here are top 5 things to watch out for. 1. The fiery Barca Vs PSG fixture: This fixture between Spanish Giants Barcelona, and Ligue 1 giants PSG is definitely something to look out for as the Champions league returns. 2. Tuchel's Chelsea vs Athletico Madrid: Chelsea's new manager Thomas Tuchel is having a rather good run with the club since ing having won 5 and drawn 1 out of his 6 encounters so far. But can the German lead Chelsea past Athletico Madrid in this round of the UCL? Definitely something to watch out for. 3. Will Bayern Munich continue their Dominance in Europe as they face Lazio? In winning the last UCL, Bayern Munich overcame some tough rivalries from different European leagues including EPL's Chelsea, LaLiga's Barcelona and Ligue 1's PSG. Now they face Lazio in the round of 16 draw. Can the German giants continue with this fiery dominance? Guess we'll see about that. 4. Cristiano Ronaldo's potential sixth UCL trophy? The 36 year old have been a key player in winning a record 5 UCL trophies. 1 with Manchester United and 4 with Real Madrid. Can the Portuguese lead his team past Porto and go on to win his 6th UCL trophy and his first for Juventus? Let's watch out. 5. Could this be the season the UCL will "come back to Camp Nou"? Back in 2018, after being officially made the club captain, Lionel Messi in his address to fans who had gathered at Camp Nou promised to do everything he can to win the UCL for Barca that season. As is the case, Barcelona couldn't go close to the trophy that season, or the two more seasons after that. Could this be the season where he finally fulfills that promise? Could he lead Barcelona past PSG in that quest? Let's Sit tight and watch it all unfold
