pocohantas: This is so wrong on many levels. The guy who attacked you initially is an idiot but that doesn't justify this extremely tasteless retort. You're better than this; always take the high road even when it is so hard to do. Don't drag yourself in the mud with people of low character and become like them. I know it's cliche but two wrongs don't make a right. Always be exemplary because people are watching. Enjoy your day. 2 Likes |

cococandy: This is entirely too harsh. The decent thing to do is to give the directors/owners the benefit of the doubt as regards their explanation. Suggesting a boycott because of a staff's misdemeanor is extreme. Bottomline is they responded well to the situation by apologizing to the aggrieved party and reversing the policy or communicating the policy in lucid to their employees. P.S: In reality, it might be that such a policy was triggered as a result of complaints from customers. Poorly dressed call girls masquerading as patronizing clients can be a turn off to the real paying customers e.g families including children. Still, it is wrong and discriminatory to turn back all ladies because some might fall into the aforementioned category. The situation should have been managed in a better way. |

Couldn't agree more. Rape cases are extremely hard to judge when a lot of time has elapsed after the supposed crime. Some ladies want to gain notoriety from claiming that they were raped by a celebrity. A false rape claim is almost as bad as rape itself and we all know that not all rape claims are true. Alleging or reporting a rape case after a long time is a slippery slope. If it is true, the lady almost never gets justice because it is nearly impossible to get proof or irrefutable evidence at that time and if it is a false claim, the man's reputation is tarnished unfairly. So, it's a lose-lose situation.

I never comment on issues like this but I'll make an exemption on this one. With all due respect, Davash222 made his bed. He was unceasingly condescending towards female folks on NL. He wasn't the only one who benefitted from your giveaway but he was virtually the only one who was trolled and shamed. He deserved what he got. It is wrong to call ladies names and try to shame them because they have a different opinion. The evil that men do....you know the rest. pocohantas: 3 Likes 1 Share |

I don't think you understand the ramifications of what you're proposing. I hope it doesn't take the infection/death of a family/friend for you to take this situation seriously. Forget about the experts, you really think it's wise to allow people go about their normal businesses with only masks as protection? Are you aware of what is going on around the world, the death toll, the chaos and how easily this virus spreads? Do you realize one single cough from an infected person spreads about 3000 droplets? It is because of people who share your mentality the virus has become such a menace. Boris Johnson, Trump and others did not listen to the experts in time and it spread widely before they started taking extreme measures. The English Premier league was one of the last leagues to suspend the season. In US, the NBA was still going on with fans in the arenas despite the fact that they had confirmed cases and it has now led to heaps of bodybags on their streets. It took a player being infected before they suspended the season. Should people start dying in masses in Nigeria before we start taking extreme precautions? If we had taken extreme precautions earlier, we won't even have any cases in Nigeria. Save your energy for more profitable causes like holding the government able and forcing them through our voices to do the right thing by taking care of the low earners. If they really want to do it, they sure can. Stop bringing up insane suggestions that will guarantee mass corpses on our streets. The government is finding it hard to enforce the lockdown, many people are still flouting the rules, how realistic is enforcing physical distancing and face masks (which is not even effective enough) if everyone is going about their normal lives? The lockdown is not going to be forever but it is mandatory till we get the virus under control. Nobody is against mass testing, masks, physical distancing, etc but the lockdown is still the most effective way of controlling the spread. There's a reason why over 100 countries are advocating self isolation. People are dying of hunger but that has been the state of Nigeria even before the virus. No matter how people complain of hunger and hardship, it can never be as bad as people dying in masses to the virus which will happen if we keep on our daily lives. We have to do the least worst thing. I don't really have time for any back-and-forth on this subject. I've come to a realization that people hardly change their opinion even if they know they're wrong. You're entitled to your opinion and it's okay if it doesn't align with mine. Seun: |

I love Rice. I know. I devour variations of rice every other day. Here's a nice combination of the world famous Nigerian Jollof, fried plantain (dodo), goat meat, sauce and a supplement drink to boot.

Look, there is no easy solution to this menace, however you look at it. Any step taken to resolve/manage this issue will affect people's lives and businesses adversely. It's all about doing the least worst thing. Since we started our lockdown soon after our first confirmed case which was earlier than most countries in Europe and US did, hopefully our lockdown shouldn't last for months. However, for the time being, the government need to provide something for the low earners. They've failed at this so far, just as they've done in almost every sphere of governance since time immemorial. Lordswazz: |

Seun, I think you need to do more research about this virus and listen to the experts. First of all, everything is secondary when it comes to human lives. Business, economy etc. Human lives are priceless. We cannot gamble with human lives because we want Nairaland or other companies to grow or not lose money. The use of face masks, according to experts doesn't stop the spread of the virus effectively. How do you even think government can enforce face masks and social distancing? Do you think we have the manpower to station law enforcement officials at every nook and cranny of the society? In market places, football centres etc, is it realistic to practice social distancing effectively? The whole purpose of the lockdown is not only to minimize the spread of the virus effectively but also to ensure that the medical centers designated for treatment of the virus wouldn't be overwhelmed. If everyone s the virus at the same time, people would be dying en masse because we don't have enough medical centers. Despite the lockdown, it is still spreading at a high rate and the numbers are growing, how much worse will it be with the use of only facemasks and everyone is still going about their normal businesses? The companies creating these test kits, most of what they're developing is still experimental at best and the results aren't 100% correct. Keep in mind that most of these companies are just trying to make quick profit so it would be unreasonable to patronize their products. Imagine someone uses the kit and is tested wrongly, and therefore doesn't self-isolate, wouldn't it keep spreading through such people to others? Medical experts and scientists some of whom have spent their entire lives studying about viral diseases, its prevention, containment etc have recommended self-isolation/quarantine/lockdown to most governments. It is better to follow their guidelines. Stop imagining solutions you think will work when in reality more knowledgeable people on the subject say it wouldn't. We cannot prevent untimely death in its entirety but it is important to try to minimize it as much as possible. Anything that's taking lives in a short period of time with reckless abandon and spreads like wildfire should not be taken lightly and extreme precautions are necessary. Having said all this, the main question that should be asked is why the government isn't doing more to sustain poor folks at home. Even if the government says that it doesn't have the means to take care of all its poor citizens, many individuals and companies have donated. If the govt asks for help from foreign countries, there will surely be lots of donations, why are they not making the funds available to the common man during this isolation period? The US made funds available to most citizens earning below $75,000. Our daft governors are sharing eba and soup (which will digest in two hours) when there are better avenues like sending money to the s of low earners through their BVN. Asking these questions should be your focus, not undermining the recommendations of renowned medical experts. Seun: 7 Likes 1 Share |

Majority (about 80%) of people who the virus do not need medical care or attention. They recover on their own. Most people sick with the virus are asymptomatic i.e. they show no symptoms of the disease. Others exhibit mild or severe symptoms such as difficulty in breathing, fever, cough, tiredness etc. The people in the latter category are the ones who require medical care. You can research more on the virus online. Titugirl: |

Great deed. There is nothing as powerful as a mother’s love. A mother is your first love, and your love forever. Moms know us the best and love us the most. I lost my Mom many years ago and it still leaves a hole in my heart till today but what gives me hope is that, one day, we will be reunited to part no more #MummysBoy #MomsAreTheBest #ILoveMyMom

It could be for a variety of reasons. Her opponent (Coco Gauff) may have undergone intense practice sessions and improved her game since the last meeting. Also, in sports, on some days, you're just not on your 'A' game. It's unexplainable. It just happens. Anyone into sports can attest to this phenomenon. The human factor. The difference is the really great ones oftentimes find a way to win even on bad days through sheer will, experience, wits and whatnot. We just witnessed Serena (arguably the G.O.A.T in women's tennis in the open era) getting bounced out of the Aussie Open by a Chinese underdog who she trounced in straight sets (6-0, 6-1) in well under an hour last September in a major. Uncharacteristically, she made 56 unforced errors in her latest shocking defeat. Indeed, it could be that Gauff now has understood Naomi's game better, having had the experience of playing her under the bright lights and has learnt from her past mistakes and prepared a solid game plan to thwart her opponent. That, my friend, is the beauty of sports. Seun: |

makydebbie: Hi makydebbie, I know I'm late to this Basketmouth SBGV saga, nonetheless, I want to address your comment. I agree it's in bad taste to make jokes about rape. I am not in of such or any other jokes regarding sensitive issues. He deserved to be removed as an ambassador of SBGV. However, his jokes do not imply that he is a rapist or that he s rape. As far as we know, he has never been convicted or found guilty of rape or aiding such a repulsive act. We should realize that comedians are paid actors. They are on our screens to offer humor and comedic relief. Whatever they say or do doesn't necessarily reflect their persona off the stage. In the same vein, actors act in movies as killers/murderers. It's all acting and done for the purpose of entertainment. If one is not comfortable with the boundary of their jokes or the movie genre, it is within your rights to stop watching their shows/movies or patronizing them. Some bodies can also choose not to sponsor them as a result. To make it seem like they endorse rape/murder/violence because of their entertainment acts is totally unwarranted and unfair IMO. P.S: Basketmouth recently put out a statement saying he was offered to take on the ambassadorial position and he chose to do it without being paid. I have quite a number of Bible verses which I hold dearly. This year however, I've fallen deeply in love with this one as well: 1 Peter 5:10 - But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you (KJV). 18 Likes 1 Share |

Akposy: This looks great. Nice combo. As for the fellow derailing the thread and constituting a nuisance in a public forum, I suggest two options to disinfect his toxicity: ignore him permanently, report his posts. Indulging his childishness makes him feel important. A good number of folks here (including me) have tried to stop him from bashing people and unfortunately, he remains unrepentant. As a result, he has to be blacklisted. 8 Likes |

Bro, I partially agree with you on your take because I feel it is rare (although not impossible) to find a wealthy man CONSISTENTLY doing house chores. I don't think it's out of pride tho (many rich folks are more humble than you think) but because of a busy schedule or other reasons. However, it is also important to make your woman feel loved and not over-burden her. Also, I don't think it's necessary to be condescending to lady folks here. You can respectfully disagree with someone's opinion. Even if they sell bags, hair etc on IG, it's honest living. Majority of today's big entrepreneurs had mentors and started really small. Even if you're the richest person in the world, you can still be a decent human being and be nice to everyone. The kindness and love you spread around comes back around to you. Lastly, life is not black and white. Every family is different. In some families, both partners are busy with their jobs & work-life and no party does any house chores consistently. If you tell a woman to know her place because she cooks and cleans for you, she, in turn might take the perspective that you're her slave cos you work your ass off daily for her and the kids while she's at home watching TV and enjoying herself. Women are a gift to men and should be cherished, not subjugated. We need them badly and they fill a vital role. Each party in a relationship or family has an important role which must be fulfilled and that role varies depending on your schedule or your likes. Some men enjoy massaging and cooking for their wives. It doesn't make them lesser men. It's all about compatibility, one's likes, accepting your role and feeling comfortable doing it. To each his own or so they say. Iogobenz: 25 Likes 5 Shares |

This year belongs to internet fraudsters without a doubt. The day isn't complete without a front-page news of another set of 'yahoo-yahoo' boys apprehended by EFCC. Wonder if someone influential in government just woke up one morning after being scammed and called Magu while shouting on top of his voice: 'Go after Yahoo boys!!! Arrest them ALL!!!' Cos, I mean, why now? This internet scam thingy has been going on for ages in this country. I a plethora of them doing their business freely back when I was in college. Why did it take so long for the government to really decide to clamp down on it? At the end of the day, poverty and crime are inseperable. They go hand in hand. If the government really wants to reduce crime rates and fraud, they need to start doing things to improve the economy and lift the masses from extreme poverty, if not, I'm afraid there ain't enough prison cells in the country for people who are willing to break out of the rat race by hook or by crook. 14 Likes 1 Share |

Seun: Nope. Still don't like some aspects of it along with many others on the forum. This is what I miss most: The demarcation lines between posts especially on the homepage. Everything looks clustered and bland with this new interface. Evolution is important and I totally endorse positive change and constant improvement but I still feel some key features should stand the test of time especially the ones most s feel more comfortable using. I suggest you take a survey or use some other viable means to decipher what features s miss a lot from the old interface. Cheers! 1 Like |

A saying goes thus: 'Every publicity is good publicity'. I don't necessarily agree with that premise but one thing is certain: bad people often receive a lot of goodwill. At the end of the day, if everyone decides it's okay for indecent people (like our politicians) to be placed on a high pedestal, it shouldn't change the fact that bad deeds and attitude shouldn't be exalted or rewarded. It doesn't matter if you're against the world and everyone accepts wrong deeds as normal level like it was in Sodom and Gomorrah. Always try to do the right thing because you're the only hope for humanity.

If you have the wherewithal to purchase a car, but you don't have the common sense to check the boxes listed by the OP before making your purchase, you probably deserve any car problems you might encounter in future as a result of your negligence/naivety.

I empathise with you in this difficult time @OP. Have you ever heard of rhesus factor? If there's rhesus incompatibility between the baby and the mother, it can lead to a miscarriage. It may be also due to other medical problems. I would advise you seek out help in a healthcare center. I sincerely hope that things turn out for the best in your family. Keep your head up, do everything you feel is necessary and leave everything in God's hands.
