Companies Call on Govt to Fix Industrial Layout Road

Companies operating in the Onitsha Road Industrial Layout Owerri, have sent an SOS to the Owelle Rochas Okorocha-led government to take urgent steps to rehabilitate the road leading into Industrial Estate, now that the dry season has started. This ionate appeal was made recently by chief executives of the firms at an indoor meeting with youths of Irete, the host community of the industrial layout.
They called on the state government to fix the road, which for many years has remained imable during the rains. According to them, doing so will enable owners of plots there to move in to develop them. At the same time, firms already in production there will receive more patronage, boost in production and offer job opportunities to our teeming unemployed youths. This they argued, will add impetus to the Okorocha’s second tenure mantra of job, job, job, employment, employment, employment.
The chief executives stated that the road has deteriorated to the extent that during the rains, both the owners and their customers, hardly have access to their respective factories due to the flooding and swampy nature of the estate.
They disclosed that though the road can be accessed by both motorists and pedestrians now because dry season has returned, it is usually an eyesore throughout the rains.
It would be recalled that the first civilian Governor of old Imo State, Chief Sam Mbakwe established the Industrial Estate, providing it with such facilities as security, power and a few roads but it has suffered utter neglect by all his successors starting with the military regimes.
Chief Godwin Mbonu Ihenacho, Managing Director of Gmicord Aluminum Factory Limited told newsmen that as an Industrial Layout, the place should be put in order with basic amenities to facilitate daily transactions. He said that bad roads cannot attract customers but rather scare them.
In the same vein, the Managing Director of Sky Aluminiumn and Coating Industries Limited, Mr. Onuoha Basil, who took newsmen to his factory, disclosed that his industry is capable of employing more than 300 unemployed youths but not when there is no access road to it.
The Managing Director of Cono Star Plastics Limited, Chief Uchay Ohanenye who expressed his enthusiasm to boost Governor Okorocha government’s policy of industrializing Imo State, regretted that the unmotorable road leading to the Industrial Layout has halted activities in some of the companies, some of which have the capacity to employ over 100 youths.
He argued that the best way to generate revenue for the state government was by promoting industries by creating the enabling environment for them to operate. Chief Ohanenye emphasized that the bad road has for so many years posed an impediment to this.
On their part, the youths of the Industrial Layout host community, have commended the industrialists for their role in boosting the economic development of Imo State through their industries. They advised them to have a unity of purpose so as to pursue the rehabilitation of the road by the state government with vigour but ensure that solid drainage system capable of forestalling flood are used in the construction work.

Balkanization of Owerri: Okorocha is a Dreamer

A Nigerian Senior citizen, and a native of Owerri Nshi-Ise, Prince Bob Njemanze on the eve of Christmas in Owerri broke his silence, on the recent development in Imo state following the balkanization of Owerri into five autonomous communities, by the State Governor, Owerri Rochas Okorocha and the selection of their Traditional rulers. Mixed feelings have trailed the action and while some are of the belief that the famous Prince has given his nod to the balkanization, many others hope on him to fight against such Government decision read excerpts!

Q: Given the recent development in Imo state as it affects the balkanization of Owerri, could you please let the Imo people at home and in diaspora know your stand.

Ans: Owerri has not been balkanized. It is a misconception. If anything, Okorocha has lent his weight and credence to the paramount rulership of Njemanze dynasty. Njemanze is not a new creation in rulershsip. The first-, Njemanze Iheanacho received the first colonial master, HOM. Douglas after whom the Douglas Road is named. If I take you through the line of history, Njemanze descendants are through Iheanacho, Okorie, Ekeonunwa, Ikenegbu, Ekwemaraugo and if you have any knowledge of the delineation of streets in Owerri, you can follow this trend into Ikenegbu to Ekeonunwa. Njemanze of Owerri is not a village in Owerri. Incidentally what Rochas has done is lending some official and Government backing to village heads of Owerri and acknowledging them as occupying positions in line with the numerous people, Government has adopted as traditional rulers which is as Boys company played by senior prefect. When you talk about Njemanze and rulership, you should divert your mind to Oba of Benin, Obong of Calabar, Obi of Onitsha, Ooni of Ife and the like. The present day masquerades created by government in the name and guise of traditional rulers are in no way on the same platform with Eze Njemanze.

Q. Why did you say there is no balkanization?
Ans: There have always been village heads in Owerri and these village heads have been with the various families. As at today the village heads of Umuororonjo is Chief TOS Oparaugo – Amawom: where the Eze incidentally is from is Chief Dennis O. Dike, Umuodu-Chief Ikeafuaka Anozie Emeto; Umuoyima, Chief Cyril Ukaegbu. These headships of villages have remained with these families from inception of the clan called Owerri and Njemanze the main Umbrella of rulership in Owerri as Ozuruigbo and as at today the 5th and the 12th descendant of that clan of rulership.

Q. Don’t you think that Government could rely on laws to achieve this in Owerri?
Ans: The issue of laws is a privilege of the House of Assembly and the present day House of Assembly is guided by their quest and demand bordering on greed and property but that does not remove the fact that sitting on the Assembly they are free to make anything they think is law but to sustain it might be an issue. Thereafter, only misguided people might think that what has been done in Owerri has anything to do with the image of position of status of Eze Njemanze as the paramount ruler of Owerri.
Okorocha himself said to me that Eze Njemanze remains a paramount ruler of Owerri. It is easy to misguide or mislead Okorocha for he is a leader who dreams dream and he is in a hurry to leave out his dreams leading to a situation where his emotion can run wild and out of contest with reasons. A leader must never say he was mislead.
If the village Heads of Owerri must be recognized as Eze in line with the present day balkanization of Traditional rulership, it must not be done outside the families that hitherto held the position to avoid variance and acrimony I hear the one nominated as village Head for Umuonyima is a brother in-law to Eze Agunwa Ohiri, the present day Eze Imo. Some of these mis-applications lead to the exhumation of certain sentimental facts that have long been buried for peace and harmony. For the origin of Uba family of Umuoyima is not completely Owerri and this may raise issues that are better buried, Certain positions and appointments must not be determined as patronage.And I say this because I over heard the governor bemoan over losing over 2000 cases and in fact suspended virtually every Director in the Ministry of Justice while not realizing the fact there is appointment of Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice who although is said to be a senior advocate was ill-equipped to run that Ministry. He is placing the blame on every wrong premise. His appointment of his bother was a bane of mismanagement of the cases and wrong advice that created the perception of a Governor who never respected the rule of law. If I were to advise, he should return those directors to their places of work and this time around, appoint a seasoned lawyer to run the affairs of the Ministry of Justice. A similar situation is gradually brewing in Imo State University and by the time the issues come up, they will blow up all those who are behind the Governor for now and lending him uncalled for backing, will leave him a paper tiger. I personally remain grateful to him for restoring the image of the Njemanze dynasty Owerri problem as a family has been domestic.
When the Eze’s palace got burnt, the governor quickly came to rescue the situation but misguided by quest and avarice, the wife of the traditional ruler stopped the contractors believing that her brother Emeka Ihedioha with Goodluck Jonathan will build for her, a paradise on earth, for peace and harmony in his home, the Eze toed this line of taught Okorocha still was not deterred, he offered the Eze accommodation till date in one of the Government comfort zone Guest houses, if he had no regard and respect for the paramount nature of Eze Owerri. He would not have attended any of these purported over 600 Ezes, set their homes ablaze and see if they will not be walking in the streets in search of roof over their heads. Njemanzes have no conflicts with Okorocha. I advise that as he is giving out the Staff of Office to the other four Village Heads; Dike of Amawom on who most of the lands presently occupied by Government and even the ones government is desirous of is also being accorded recognition as Eze. It will be wrong for any one to go to the neigbouring town of Egbu where my brother comes from and think of Eze Umuokfo, Umuanyalu, Mpama, what you have there is Eze Egbu but there will be nothing wrong if Government makes provision of salary and maintenance for the various Village Heads in Egbu and titles them in any form so long as it does not affect the position of Eze Egbu. The issue of Eze Egbu, Eze Owerri is sacrosanct.

PAPDA Takes Up Over 2000 Shops at Mgbidi International Market

The Phones and Allied Product Dealers Association (PAPDA), Computer Village Business People in Ikeja, Lagos, have purchased a total of 2500 shops at the Heartland Gateway International Market under construction in Mgbidi, Imo State.
The g of the purchase agreement was done recently at the office of M.I. Okoro & Associates, the marketing firm to the project, in Ikoyi, Lagos State.

Present at the g were the President, Phones & Allied Products Dealers Association (PAPDA), Chief Godfrey Iyke Nwosu; the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Graceland Channels Ltd, the developers, Pastor Nat Omoruyi; Special Assistant to the Governor of Imo State and Liaison Officer in Lagos, Mr. Alfred O. Ononugbo; and the Principal Consultant M.I. Okoro & Associates, Dr. M.I. Okoro; President, Imo State Town Union, Lagos, Pastor Okey Anorue; Lawyers, among others.
By this, the Computer Village Business People, Ikeja, have shown interest in the re-energizing of Imo state economic activities in Eastern Nigeria.

The re-energizing of Imo state economic activities is to be achieved through the development of 10,000 lock up shops, warehouses, housing estates and other facilities.

Mr. Ononugbo, who represented Governor Rochas Okorocha advised the business people to have “an integrity-driven market. If our people buy a product for N30,000 then give them a product that is worth N30,000.”

He urged other business people to take advantage of the market and stake their claim, saying the government was prepared to give them incentives like tax rebate to enable them function properly.

He assured them of security and that the governor was keen on getting the market and other business components in the state on track. “It will be regrettable for anyone to place politics with the destiny of the Igbo Race.”

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Graceland Channels Ltd, the developers, Pastor Nat Omoruyi said the market is open to people from everywhere in the country and beyond.

Omoruyi said the site was being cleared and that some pillars have been erected at the market.

The Imo State Government in its rescue mission initiative and vanguard for a One Mega City State, has engage Graceland Channels Limited to Design and Develop a Commercial City in Mgbidi to serve as the commercial nerve point of the state. Mgbidi is strategically located, being the Gateway into Imo State (The Eastern Heartland of the Nation). It is barely 30 minutes drive from Onitsha and about 10 minutes drive to Owerri. It has a large expanse of land (covering 28.097 hectares), which the past governments of the state, with foresight, had acquired to build an International market to serve the sub region and beyond.

The Computer Village Business Group on their own have invited banks to partner with them by providing mortgages from their teaming population under special funding arrangement so as to finance their initial 2500 lock up shops.

The group was delighted that other trading groups and associations were consulted to be part of the development and also to do business in the Market City.

According to Chief M.I. Okoro, the market was being built with input from prospective owners, as against the situation where shops would have been fully developed and commissioned before inviting business people to come and purchase. “Trading groups are called from inception to contribute their inputs, since they are the final s of the shops being developed.

“This approach yields better results because by inviting the Business group to participate from the start gives them a better sense of belonging and respect to their existence. That is why the Market city must succeed.

“The Government of Imo State and the Igbo Nation have commended the effort and vision of the Computer Village people for the example they have shown by partnering with Imo State government to develop Igbo land.

“The Igbo Nation, both Home and Abroad hereby call on the rest of Igbo business groups all over Nigeria and abroad to begin to come home and develop their business in Igbo land just like the people of Israel left Egypt for the promise land noting that there can never be any place like home.

These economic activities will take place at a new development, which is the Heartland Gateway International Market, Mgbidi, Imo state.

His idea is to locate the International Market at a border town central to Anambra, Delta, Enugu, Rivers and Imo state of Nigeria for the convenience of movement of people, goods and other materials in one hand and “Think-Home Investment Concept.”
Okoro said, “This development is the first of its kind in the South East of Nigeria, which is aimed at re-energizing the economic activities of Eastern Nigeria and is expected to create countless jobs, employment and other creative entrepreneurial activities.
“These economic activities are capable of reducing high rate of youths restiveness and crime that have been traced to unemployment as well as releasing the potential values of any available piece of land in the immediate environment and neighbouring states.

“On the other hand, the International Market is focused at attracting investments to the Eastern part of Nigeria where Igbo people who have been busy developing other parts of Nigeria can come home and do business with the rest of Nigerians and other international communities in Igbo land.”

On completion, the International Market will be the biggest, most modern type of market in Nigeria and Africa.
This International Market is expected to play host to over two million people doing business in the market city.
This teaming population coming from all parts of Nigeria and the world would demand for land for various developmental projects like- housing estates, Warehousing complexes, Hotels, Industrial and allied activities, schools and colleges and any other activities that may require the use of land.

The increase in the demand for land purchase is expected to increase the value of land in the area.

He said Governor Anayo Rochas Okorocha earmarked about 200hectres of land to Graceland Channels Ltd for the development of over three thousand housing units for both residential and commercial occupations in Mgbidi and immediate environment.
The land supply will help accommodate the expected teaming population as a preliminary measure to tackle the demand for housing, and also to complement the Heartland Gateway International Market.

In a bid to open up the Eastern region of Nigeria for effective economic emancipation and to position it to compete with the world economically, Okorocha launched the development of an Industrial Park with some foreign partnership.
The foreign partnership with the Imo State Government is expected to cost over five billion US Dollars and is already sited at Egbema, Imo state.

Abia political stakeholders urge Buhari to reappoint Adighije at RMFAC

UMUAHIA—MAJOR political stakeholders from the three senatorial zones of Abia State, have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to approve the reappointment of Senator Chris Adighije as the state’s representative at the Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Allocation Committee, RMFAC, noting that he brought positive changes to the state in his first tenure.

According to them, “Senator Adighije really worked hard for the interest of Abia State and deserves to continue for the greater good of the state.”

Rising from an emergency meeting in Umuahia, the stakeholders which cut across political divides, urged President Buhari to “hearken to the voice of Abia people and reappoint Senator Adighije,” who they said was a good ambassador of the state at RMFAC.

Among Adighije’s achievements, according to them, were refund of N12.7 billion said to have accrued to the state from the 22 oil wells formerly ceded to Rivers State, as well as a recovery of N266 million wrongly debited to Abia.

They also said that Adighije “started and completed the process that led the Federal Government to refund another N7.6 billion from Isimiri Oil Field from Rivers State, and upgrading Abia State in the national revenue chart from third position to 26th position.”

Tension in Abia community over alleged disobedience of court order

AGITATION by the youths of Lokpaukwu Umuchieze community in Ummnneochi Council Area of Abia State is grad­ually building tension in the area. The cause of the tension, which is threaten­ing the peace of the state and the granite-rich com­munity, is the alleged dis­obedience of a court order by two mining companies.

A visit to the communi­ty last Friday revealed the youths were spoiling for war over the alleged dis­obedience to the Federal High Court Order, which stopped the two mining firms, Asphalt Unity Con­struction Limited, a Leba­nese company and Pioneer Sinochino Investment Venture Limited, a Chi­nese company from oper­ating at the Aguokeakpu quarry land of Amaubiri/ Umutu in the community.

Meanwhile, leaders and major stakeholders in the community have urged the Assistant Inspector General of Police to wade into the matter and en­sure the court order was obeyed to avoid break­down of law and order.

Trouble started follow­ing disagreement between the 35 landowners of the mining field and the two mining firms, over which of them has the legal right of mining the particular site, which led to the mat­ter being taken to court.

As a result, Justice F. A. Olubanjo of the Fed­eral High Court, Umua­hia, in his ruling in the application, ordered that the parties maintain the status quo. He went fur­ther to explain that the or­der meant that “whatever acts have been completed remain so until this court otherwise so order.”

The youths, who spear­headed the agitation, said they had observed that Pi­oneer Sinochino had been flouting the court order by operating on the site despite the court order.

They alleged that the company entered the dis­puted area from an ad­ing land and had been mining stones and granite despite the court order.

Confronted with the allegation of flouting court order, Public Rela­tions Officer of Pioneer Sinochino, Arinze Nwa­for, denied his firm was flouting the court order. Throwing more light on the matter, Nwafor said the court order stated that status quo be main­tained, and that they were already operating in the disputed area before the order, hence they were still within the order.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has reiterated his commitment to see to the actualization of the Abia International Industrial City (ABIIC) project located at Osisioma.
Ikpeazu made the pledge while receiving development partners of the Project and Management of Acroideation International Limited who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Umuahia;
He said the project was significant in that it was borne out of the need to establish key sectors of the economy of the state, adding that the project would establish the foundation for the development of competitive domestic products for exports thus launching the state into the rich field of global economy within time.
Ikpeazu further said his government was ever ready to provide the enabling environment for business to thrive, as his government was desperate to develop the state.
He said the state government was looking for any opportunities, windows and investors to unleash the state entrepreneurial spirit, adding that Abia State has a lot to offer Nigeria and Africa.
Governor Ikpeazu also said the state door is always open to businessmen who have ideas to help it move forward.
He encouraged the company to move in as quickly as they can, “Our target from 2016 is we will not allow Nigeria to import shoes for our military. Abia State is producing shoes, adding He would like to see shops in London, New York with made in Aba shoes on their shelves.
