The University of Lagos has appointed Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, a professor of Botany, as its new vice-chancellor.
He becomes the 12th vice-chancellor of the university and will succeed Professor Rahmon Bello.
Until his appointment, he was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics and Research, UNILAG.
The Public Relations Officer of the school, Toyin Adebule, confirmed Ogundipe’s appointment.
“He has been appointed; he is our new VC,” he said.


Ogundipe, who is of the university’s Faculty of Science, was ranked first by the Council while the former Dean of the university’s Students’ Affairs Unit, Prof. Kayode Amund, and the former Vice-Chancellor of the Caleb University, Imota, Lagos State, Prof. Ayodeji Olukoju, came second and third respectively.
The newly appointed vice-chancellor is expected to take over from the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rahmon Bello, whose tenure of office ends on November 10.
He is expected to resume on November 11 as the university’s 12th substantive vice-chancellor.
Ogundipe, who was appointed as professor in 2002, was also the Director of Academic Planning and a member of many scientific organisations. He is a life member of International Society of Plant Morphologist, Fellow of Cohort 9 of the Leadership for Environment and Development, and the Linnaean Society, London, among many others.

Hello guys, I've been silently observing. Congrats to the guys who were successful, and to those who weren't, not getting PwC isn't the end of the world. Try other places, KPMG recruits all year round, EY is also there. Don't let anyone deceive you, any big 4 firm offers the same opportunities for training and career development just as PwC does. They all have their merits and demerits as well. I interned with PwC last year and one thing I didn't like was that regardless of your interests, HR decides which unit you are put in. Which in turn determines your future in the firm. Don't let me scare you, but company politics is sometimes involved in this. Apart from that, it's a wonderful place to start a career.

As for those contemplating on which big 4 firm to choose, If its between PwC audit and any untit in KPMG advisory, I advise you go for the latter. First, the pay would be practically the same, no difference. Secondly, KPMG offers free lunch whenever you're in the office, and thirdly, advisory offers more flexibility to your future career path and better training. With audit, you must write ICAN or ACCA. And trust me, whichever one you choose, you would definitely get fed up after 2-3 years if money is your major motivation. Apart from these reasons, whichever one you choose, just get ready to work your *ss off. My advise tho, is that you start to build your career with professional exams Immediately you start cos that would be a major determinant of how quickly you move up the ladder.

Working at Shell might end up not being as rosy as many think. I read the clause that says after 2-5 years of coming in as graduate trainee you become an Independent Shell Contractor. I think that means you only receive salaries and benefits packages for 2-5 years. Then you later become a contractor under shell where you no longer receive salaries but paid only when you have a contract assignment. In the long run the politics involved in securing a contract will be high. I trust Nigeria for that. Then no retirement packages. You just end up being used and dumped.

Please let's spread our tentacles for other opportunities cos I believe there are many companies out there far better than Shell in the long run.

You can also think of starting a business. May end up the best option afterall.

Scammers have now moved to a new level in this country. It's possible they also got the details from NYSC, cos I know those guys have no security or from a NYSC mobilization list posted online by your school which has all your details including phone no. (Cos my sch posted the list on their website). Please do not fall for this.

Two students of the University of Lagos have graduated with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0 in the 2015/16 academic session.

Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Rahamon Bello, who stated this during the 2016/2017 matriculation on Friday, named the two students as: Miss Taiwo Bankole and Miss Ajoke Omotuyi.

It will be recalled that Ayodele Dada made a 5.0 CGPA from the university in the 2014/2015 academic session.
Acording to Bello, both students are from the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics, Faculty of Science and the Department of Systems Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, respectively.
“Both students, females, had also posted a `perfect score’ of 5.00 CGPA, thus matching the record set by Dada in 2014/2015 academic session,’’ he said.

Ive been silently following this thread. Congratz to guys who have made it. Pwc really needs you in their new office as there is so much unsued space lolz. U will really enjoy the place tho. Wish to u guys soon as full staff. Im an intern with them awaiting my NYSC and I must say I have really learnt a lot within the 2 months Ive been there. Its one of the best places to work in Nigeria. And to those who didnt make it. U guys can also consider applying for internship too if u dont mind.
