I live offgrid too, disconnected from grid and have been offgrid for months now with no intention of going back to grid.
Do you use high power equipment such as electric iron, cooker and water pump on your solar system? If so, what method did you use and how much did your installation cost?

ceaser:

12 volts electric iron are available. They work with your 12volt DC source like deep cycles batteries or even directly plugged into your solar s.
Kindly let me know where to get such 12 V electric iron. Like how much does it cost? Thanks.

Eeyah, don't be discouraged.

The first preventive measure is to get a pheromone block, it attracts the make and kill them thereby reducing reproduction( females won't have eggs to lay)

Make sure weekly spraying is followed religiously

No weed at all

You can also plant corn round your farm, fruitflies stay on tall plants during the day. With that you can kill some with insecticide

If I may ask, how often did you spray?

Thanks.

Now let me mention the other challenge a that caused loss on the farm.
1. Many water melon plants became yellow when very young and they didn't do well eventually.

2. many fruits started shrinking up as the one I show on the picture here and eventually got spoiled.

Please what is the remedy for these problems?

I guess that's fruitfly, please increase you insecticide procedure.

Check for bad fruit and try to kill the maggots with insecticides, if not they will turn to see fly and cause more havoc. Check d young fruits well for a hole, if any, fruitfly has laid egg inside

Please take quick action cos if not checked you might lose a lot.

Actually, many of the fruits were lost. And the harvesting season is over. Buti wish to plant come next available season and I don't want to lose them like that.

Actually I'm planning to be power independent in my house. But as an electrical engineer myself I know that the limitations of solar system has to do with high power-consuming devices such as electric iron, cooker, etc. Right now my house is not connected to the public power supply but I use my solar system for only lights and sometimes TV.

Now I want to know if there is any low power electric iron available in the Nigerian market. I need to get one just as I'm planning to get the 0.5Hp pumping machine suggested by one of you guys here.
Anybody with useful information can respond thanks.

I guess we should take the discussion off thread so as not to derail. You can get water pump around 35k to 40k. 3kva inverter is around 70 to 80k. 4 units of 100ah motoma batteries
Thanks for the info.

i will suggest a brand from USA you capable of DC / AC powering simultaneously.

This is the current project we doing for fish farmers and irrigation farmers that needs pumping of water daily without waiting for Nationak Grid or wasting much money on Fuel.

For more rich detailed advice.

I use 0.5hp (370w) submersible pump (popularly called sumo) 3kva 48v inverter, 800w solar s, 100ah 48v battery bank. During the day, the machine pumps 500gallon gp tank from empty to full around 20mins to 25mins and there is no strain in battery bank as battery will still be nearfull after pumping.
OK. How much is the inverter and the water pump? How many units of 100Ah battery and what brand?

The breakage is caused by water stress, either 2 much water or too much heat.

Please check your farm if it's not affected by fruitfly, though the picture is not that clear. Are some watermelons getting rotten and you find maggot inside if opened?

Are you irrigating, if not, Is rain still falling in your area, when did you plant?

At the time there was much rain in my area.

When some broken water melon were opened, there were maggots inside them.

What size of batteries and solar s are you using?

I will advise any serious minded person to disregard this error from the OP. He is making false claims. He is d surely an apostate. If anyone wants to know the truth, this thread might not help. Meet the Jehovah's witnesses yourself.

We Jehovah's witnesses don't do such baseless, mindless online argument. If you meet us one on one, we are ready to clarify matters. And you will surely see the truth.

If you use semisynthetic or fully synthetic oil and your mileage is less than 5000 miles in a year, is it necessary to change the oil filter in the car engine? If so, how many changes in a year is necessary?

Chai. Just so typical of the wicked and crazy recruiters. That's how depraved the Nigerian system has become. So pitiable.

OK fine! I don't know the length of damage done on the farm... u can never do water Mellon farming without having in mind fungicides... in as much as pesticiding is necessary so also fungiciding... get a good fungicide and spray on the farm... and it seems u are generous with ur insecticide. there is a specified amount in ml prescribed for all those chemicals, that's what u need to know b4 diving into watermelon farming... wish u good luck as u fungicide for rescue mission or good luck as u try again... water melon is the most lucrative crop once u know the secrets

Not much damage afterall. Only one fruit shows that sign. But to the bolded, can you mention the type of fungicides one can use and how many times before harvesting?

House, please what is the cause of water melon fruit shrinking up like this one in the picture? What is the solution? I just found this one of the very first fruits from my farm.

I use Google Keyboard and it's autocorrect actually studies the words I use and accept them after a couple of use including all the Nigerian slangs.

@op, there's a way. Just get video recording gadgets like a pen recorder or eyeglasses. Then pretend that you are yielding to his proposal. Get all his talks and acts recorded. You can even go into his preferred place or yours to do it. But make sure you don't have sex with him. at that point he will get angry and threaten to sack you. Just give him a copy of the video and tell him your lawyer has a copy (you must give one to your lawyer and be ready). Tell him you will the video online and send one to his wife and family and make it go viral. By that time he will be begging you, I'm sure. if not sue him immediately.

The 10w30 recomemded oil for lexus or the recomemded one for siena engine, which is the recomended for siena sef, or which should i try
Try and use the 10w30 recommended for your car.

no leakages at all and the oil is always guage anf i change it every three months
I asked you to change to recommended oil and observe if there are leakages. Have you done that? I don't understand your "no leakages" comment.
pragmatistm(m): 9:52pm On Oct 06, 2016
Waladade4luv:

10w30 is stated on d owners manual but since I av been using it for long won't it affect the engine if I change it now although I av a Toyota Siena engine inside
I don't think it would affect it. If you use it, try and check for any oil leaks and shortage in the oil level. If there's none as you are using the car, you are safe.

I used the Mobil 20w50 my mechanic put in my year 2000 Nissan primera for around 3months and changed to 10w40 semisynthetic since about 3 years now without any issues. In fact I haven't changed the ignition plugs that came with the engine till date.
