However let me address your concern about the Southerners and alliance with the Northerners.

--Initially when Nigeria started, Awolowo wanted them to include secession clause into the constitution but the Igbos(Azikwe)declined. Instead they agreed on a law that anyone that tried to secede committed treason.

--When it was time to form alliance, the Igbos (Azikwe) formed an alliance with Azikwe rather than Yoruba (Awolowo). Therefore the Igbos allied with the North

--The Igbos led the onslaught on other tribe leaders hereby getting in through the back door. Killed Yoruba leaders in the coup without respecting southern alliance.

--Ekwueme (Igbos) allied with Shagari (Northerners) in 1979 even when Awolowo was on the ballot. That clearly showed the Igbos preferred the North.

--Ekwueme again allied with the Northerner in 1983. Awolowo was also on the ballot but the Igbo chose to ally with the Northerners.

--Ojukwu himself campaigned on the podium for Shagari towards the 1983 election. Ojukwu used a microphone to tell his people to vote for Shagari. That showed the East allied with the North.

--Sylvester Ugoh allied with Bashir Tofa in 1993 eletion even when Abiola was on the ballot. That showed the East ed the North against the West right.

--1999, Most Yoruba wanted Falae and voted almost 90% for him, but the east chose to collude with the North to vote Obasanjo. Thereby we can say they also allied with the North.

--2015, Yoruba voted for Buhari, which was the first time that we go against anything called southern alliance.
