Well taking care of parents is african culture. It's also due to poverty and lack of social services for retired old people. He sounds like he hates his parents though. Maybe they were cold and wounded him emotionally.

Jewish culture is the best concerning generational wealth. They believe they must build an estate in their lifetime & it on to their grandchildren (not even their children), it's why u never see a poor jew; Even if he's an immigrant. They dont abandon them in retirement homes.
