Good day everyone, I wanted to find out two things:
1. For some pple that have landed lately, did u use any cargo company to send food items to Canada upon arrival and I hear it’s tax free if u are a PR. How true it’s dis?
2. For our brothers in Ontario, what is the health insurance like cos me and my spouse are to king of moving to Alberta or Ontario but the three month wait for health insurance is putting us off? Thanks

As in, I had to go back to read the original post because I am like what prompted that kind of rude and off-topic response?

I wonder why it is convenient for people to just write what they dont know about. I live in quebec and thank God I am "struggling". I won't argue much but it is better to experience than to draw conclusions from the experience of a few people. Yes Nigerians are leaving Quebec in droves to Ontario or elsewhere because of the language barrier. I was the only English speaking guy where I was employed I took it with open arms and learnt my French on the go. Now I speak fluent french and now I have the whole of Canada right in my hands. Applied and Got another job with Air Canada. French speaking was the edge I had. I moved to Manitoba as that is where I am stationed. Depending on what you want, u can make ur decision. My kids also speak better French than me. I did not limit myself or my kids in a country where we plan to live for God knows how long. Please if because of the experience of few people u are drawing conclusions be careful. As a rule if I have not experienced anything I dont comment, you can't be living in Lagos and be saying the way El Rufai is ruling Kaduna is bad. You know nothing.

I've been of the opinion that people should stop talking "about Canada" but talk about their particular province or region where they live. Canada is bigger than the whole of West Africa if I'm right. You can't be living in Sabo-Yaba and be talking about Cameroon or Ivory Coast.

I've only lived in Mississauga and Milton since my arrival, and worked in Toronto, what gives me the authority or audacity to talk about even Oshawa in the same Ontario, not to talk or Quebec or Manitoba that is three hours away from where I am by flight.

I've always turned people down when they ask me to tell them about "Canada". I can't tell you about Canada. Canada is nine times bigger than Nigeria. I can only speak about my experience based on where I've lived, stay or work.

Morning seniors.

Got PPR and should be coming with my family by summer. Stuck between choosing Alberta and Ontario. I heard rents are cheaper in Alberta, the minimum wage is higher than ontario and they pay less taxes. However, I am concerned about job opportunities. Studied law and i don't know if there are readily available paralegal jobs in Alberta that i can do while i take steps to getting enrolled to their Bar. Wifey studied Economics, and is looking at Roles whiles she gets additional qualifications.

So what do you advise? Ontario or Alberta?

I am just like you. Heading to Ontario. Final Decision. I may not know much about Canadian Jobs yet but as a colleague also starting my licensing process with NCA and planning to do a Paralegal Course, I can tell you that Paralegal is also a regulated profession in Ontario. I don’t know about Alberta. So it might be tough to find a Paralegal job in Ontario as one who doesn’t have the required license. You may look into Law office Assistant while you write your Exams. My too cents.

Please is there any WhatsApp or telegram group page for those in Ontario cities? I need some help settling. Will land this February as a PR and need some information regarding accommodation. Please kindly share the group link if you have any. Thanks

I am also torn between the two. I'm an ant.

I have booked my ticket to Calgary and decided that I will make a decision at some point on if I will just end my trip in Toronto as the flight es through Toronto. But if I continue on to Calgary, since cost of living is cheaper, I will not lose much to book a flight back to Toronto if all the interviews are there.

I will book airbnb for only two weeks in whichever location and move if required. That means my cargo items need to wait a month or two till I am sure of my permanent location and I will not get permanent accommodation until I am certain.

What are my chances of making it here by next year. Then I would have completed my PhD. I would also be 31 by then. I'm thinking of coming in as a Lecturer or HSE officer because of NEBOSH.
Also which will be easier provincial nomination or main express entry. I'm also single.

Do you have a family/relative in Alberta or Toronto?

That's another factor you may want to consider

I have ACCA so I intend to convert to A. Why not Calgary? Lower cost of living, more chilled lifestyle, open spaces etc.

I can live in city centre and not have long commute like from GTA to Toronto downtown. All based on research sha.

At the end of the day, I really don't know for certain where I will end up. I have about a month to decide.

Any ideas for what else to consider?

Hello guys, this would be my first time traveling to Canada . Please I would like to find out from anyone's experience if am likely to encounter issues if I carry anti malaria and anti allergy medications?

Nope

Depends on ambition. Do you want to run things and rub shoulders with the best? Bigger pay and prestige? Or you're just OK with making a living and living a chilled life? The choice is yours...

Commute isn't a big deal, 35mins train from Mississauga to Downtown Toronto.

All this talk about lower cost of living is relative and a trade-off with competitive pay and unlimited opportunities.

Enjoy...If you choose Ontario, hit me up make i buy you 2 bottles of your favourite when you land... grin grin

There is a beautiful bright basement suite available. It’s a 1 Bedroom with dining & living area. It has a separate (side) entrance and parking for 1 car. The living area has a Sofa & coffee table. There is a dining table with chairs. The bedroom has a queen-sized mattress. The bathroom is head over shower. The suite is semi furnished- Fridge, Kitchenette with two burner stove (no Oven), microwave, basic dishes, pots/pan and access to laundry.
This basement suite is situated in South West Calgary. There are 2 CT train stations nearby (5 and 10 minutes’ walk), with a couple of bus stops littered around. The Westbrook Mall (housing Walmart, Dollarama, Family Doctor among other Stores and food outlets) and Nicholls (Public) Library are also nearby. There are also a couple of Banks (RBC, Scotia & TD) in the vicinity. Calgary Police Service, Fire Department and a Registry are less than 5 mins away. This is available for a monthly contribution of CAD 800 inclusive of the following amenities (Internet, water, heating, electricity). Please note that smoking (of any kind) and pets are not allowed. The place is available now. If interested, kindly me. Thank you
