Bought my car in Lagos with Lagos plate number and took the car to the north. Police always ask me to park and ask me "from where" "to where". Even KASTELEA in Kaduna always stop me. Since a month ago that I got a Kaduna plate no, my hometown precisely, police don't stop me, even the KASTELEA guy that stopped just asked, "are you from GWT or its just a number. We ended up introducing our selfs and our respective villages. I believe Abuja ABC is the most respected number in Nigeria. I don't know how much Lagos no is but Abuja ABC is even more expensive than all plates even when compared to other Abuja nos. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

I would advise you get the plate number of the state where you will drive around in most of the time. Police at checkpoints tend to target vehicles with out-of-state plate number. So, a lot of your time is wasted at police checkpoints. But if you will be driving across the country a great deal, i think Abuja plate number is cool. If your movements will be mostly in a particular geographical zone, get the plate number of a state in that zone.

Yohh: No advantage of a particular state motor vehicle number plate over another. A board called t Tax Board was formed in 2004 (Personal Income Tax Act) led by FIRS and all States board to harmonize all taxes, including road tax and motor vehicle documentation fees. Meanwhile, Lagos State as the commercial nerve centre and port of entry for 99% of vehicles generate over 80% of vehicle registration in Nigeria. Lagos State is the first state to computerize the motor vehicle License documentation making it seamless and can be done even by banks across the state. Other States should have catched up by now but .......... Funningly, Lagos State hasn't fully computerize the Certificate of Road-worthiness. Craftily, Lagos State added SMS fee #200 claiming they send 3 SMS messages which is never sent, isn't SMS even #4 and bulk SMS cheaper! (Calculate #200 on each of the millions of vehicles ed and renewed in Lagos). Also Radio License fee should be collected by Local Government, Lagos charges #500 for that annually. In essence, it is more expensive to and renew vehicle documents in Lagos. 3 Likes 1 Share |

If your runs are more to Southern states, u are good with Lagos plate but if u are to come to Northern states or says Nationwide Abuja plate is for you. My car has Abuja plate n I 'command respect' in south than Lagos plate guys do u know what, because they don't know who's who with Abuja plate 5 Likes 1 Share |

Yohh: The main reason is that police hardly disturbs. They have 80% assurance that your vehicular documentation is complete as there is no hiding place for you in Lagos 6 Likes 2 Shares |

naijaguy123456: In addition to this, Lagos has a more straightforward process of reregistration. ie if u buy a Nigerian used vehicle, it is easier to either DIY or find someone who can handle it for u. I know many people who has turned down offer of buying a good vehicle because they could not find a way to get a proper change of ownership. I believe we already know proper change of ownership can only be processed where d vehicle was ed. Presently, I am making effort to someone who can assist a client process change of ownership in his state, if I dont succeed by Monday, he may not buy d vehicle. But Lagosians and non Lagosians ve no such problem. Simply buy vehicle with Lagos numbered plate from anywhere, to Nairaland, search for Pattybf or any of my colleagues n d job is done. Lagos has more documents, verifiable. The renewable documents gets reminder. 4 Likes 1 Share |

matuskyoo7:Gbam! And if the car is to be sold, Lagos number is a turn off, because it is a testimony that the car has seen very bad roads.especially if it's a public transport vehicle. |

After the guys looked at me well even though I didn't use military power or anything I was just cold they ended up letting me go and even described the road I know for me Same won't HV happened if am using Kaduna number 2 Likes |

I prefer Rivers PHC plate numbers. There is a kind of excitement on security operative faces whenever they sees one at check point.

Ikeja, Lagos plate number speaks volume and police officers do respect it. Get that instead; KJA997FM for example! !! FKJ, Lagos is not also bad because it could be easily mistaken for KJA. I got both; that of KJA and FKJ which implies I'm talking from experience. Uniform men didn't even harass me on the road when I drove one of them from Lagos to Abuja last month all alone in the car.
