President of the African Women Entrepreneur-ship Programme (AWEP), Mrs Angela Ajala, has said the association will soon launch a directory for women in export business. Ajala, who spoke at the sidelines of the MSMEs Day, recently, said the directory was to make it easy to reach women entrepreneurs. “We are bringing out a directory for women that are in export. Many times, people want to buy things from Nigeria but they don’t know where to go. Whether ginger, turmeric or garri, they don’t know where to go. The National Directory for Women in Export is going to solve that problem. “It will be placed in all embassies, commercial areas and relevant agencies like SMEDAN, NEPC, NEXIM, so our women can begin to get the visibility they need to get their products out there,” she said. Ajala said the directory, which will be launched at the Annual General Meeting of AWEP coming up next month, will have about 500 women and would be a one-stop shop for information of women into export business. The AWEP president also urged women to formalize their businesses so as to get visibility. “Women should begin to formalise their businesses to give them the visibility they need. Their businesses should be structured and ed with CAC. They want to see your management profile and audited . All the things that are needed to give you proper structure and corporate governance should be in place,” Ajala said. The truth is this innovation is all shades of wrong, it is empowering just one gender over the other. I don't see any all male business directory. To attain full gender equality, we have to be gender neutral and fluid, we have to by gender classification. It's a pity that African Women Entrepreneur-ship Programme (AWEP) is ignorant of this fact. 3 Likes |

![]() Why cant we have yellow pages for both Male and Female, the truth is women are more sexist and mysiogenist Just Imagine if Men decides to have Ministry of Men affiars, or business women directory and watch how feminist would cry foul .. 1 Like |

calm down, there is already a general exporters directory and smaller businesses are sometimes omitted. I guess some are owned by women. Ebirra: |

its a nice idea. But look at the odds. The so called "Directory" is formed and " Marginalization" and "a strata" takes shape where only the ones who tip off the directory management gets the business and only a particular well to do ones would benefit. As nice as it sounds on text or writing or said. I think there are big loops |

Ebirra: Nawa... You see 'Women' in the programme's name and you're still saying they should include men... You can create yours if you think nobody is paying attention to men. You must always try to discredit things about women and ask, 'men nko?' 1 Like |
