I bought my present car from a mechanic. It had a brand new inspection sticker on it so I didn't bother to check the items covered under the inspection seeing as he could loose his license if he was caught putting a sticker on a car that didn't deserve it. Boy did I make a mistake. So far I've replaced all of the brakes except one caliper, every fluid in the car, both tie rod ends, both ball ts, and the control arm bushings. The engine cradle is rusted though I think I can save it, I'm running diesel oil to help quell the bottom end knock, and the AC compressor seized after the refrigerant leaked out.

My advice, don't buy a car from a mechanic.

Or if you do, go over it with a fine toothed comb.

CAVEAT! THIS IS NOT GAZZUZZ RELATED

REASON 2 I would be cautious buying a car from a body shop. During slow times some shops buy two wrecks and convert them into one "good" car. Maybe if it has a frame, but not a unibody. Or has the art advanced?

REASON 3
I know a dozen mechanics who don't work on their own cars all for the same reason, they don't want to work on cars on their down time .

REASON 4 There's a saying, don't buy a car off a mechanic because when they flog it off to someone they know what they can get away with meaning a very short time down the track you might find out that you're stuck with a car which has a blown engine, they can “bodge” it up.

The other one is to never buy a house off a builder !

God bless you op.. Most people wouldn't think of selling their vehicles In Nigeria until it has started giving them headache. And guess who they go to for disposing the cars?... Mechanics. Who will sell it at a higher rate and give the seller peanuts.
They will claim a higher value for a vehicle not worth half much.
Seriously this shii is for real. If you want to get a car without headaches, buy directly from the owner or save up more to buy toks

Some mechanic workshops also import cars... But guess what? It's all about the profit margin... Go figure
