- A pro-Buhari organisation has called for the withdrawal of the Bishop of Sokoto diocese from the National peace committee - The organisation accused Bishop Mathew Kukah of partisanship by alleged display of for PDP's presidential candidate - BMO's request followed a recent meeting between former president Olusegun Obasanjo and Atiku Abubakar The Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) has called for the withdrawal of the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Reverend Matthew Kukah from the National Peace Committee led by former Head of State, General Abdulsalam Abubakar. The organisation made the call in a statement issued by its chairman Niyi Akinsiju and secretary Cassidy Madueke on Tuesday, October 16, in Abuja. The group said the call had become necessary because of Kukah’s alleged open display of for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. It noted that the Abdulsalam Abubakar-led committee was one that should be seen to be non partisan because of the role it was meant to play in the run-up to the 2015 general elections. “We are surprised, like many Nigerians, to see Bishop Kukah in the company of the opposition candidate at a reconciliation meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo,” the group said. It recalled that Kukah had later on claimed to be the strategic mind behind the reconciliation which was targeted at bringing the two parties together to fight President Buhari istration. “This is not expected of a clergyman who is seen in some quarters as the alternate head of the National Peace Committee. “He has shown his bias and as such cannot be trusted to be non-partisan,” the group stressed. It dismissed claims by the Catholic Bishop that he was not aware of the political nature of the gathering as tales that no one would believe. According to the group, Kukah is the key figure behind the reconciliation, a step he took knowing that Atiku was a PDP presidential aspirant. “And if it is true that Bishop Kukah is insisting that he was only exercising his right to free movement. “We are also demanding that having shown his hand, he has no reason to sit on a that is meant to be non-partisan,” the group maintained. It added that it fully s President Buhari’s onition that religious leaders abstain from partisan politics. Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that Bishop Kukah had denied endorsing Atiku Abubakar. The bishop also explained his role in the October 11 meeting in Abeokuta that ended in the historic reconciliation of former president Olusegun Obasanjo and his former deputy, Atiku Abubakar. Bishop Kukah said he only facilitated reconciliation between the two men. He also claimed that he was not part of the event which saw Obasanjo endorse Abubakar for the 2019 presidential election. https://www.naija.ng/1198625-atiku-obj-meeting-bmo-seeks-kukahs-withdrawal-national-peace-cttee.html 1 Like 1 Share |

I blame OBJ on this! He made it look as if the Bishop wasn't for the peace deal but for Atiku's endorsement.

Reconciling Obj and Atiku was a peace move. Go and sit down and plan how to win this election you can't win. Stop chasing winds

Saw this post somewhere. I'm reposting. I wish this "BMC" was a single known person,.but that not withstanding, by statements like this, they're destroying the little sympathy some Catholics still have for Buhari. The role of Catholics in the election of Buhari in 2015 was massive. They are also very patient set of people. They also speak last after massive consultation. Insulting a revered Bishop Kukah, who is definitely a stakeholder of the Catholic Church in Nigeria will be a stupid idea. Come to think of it, could it be that Atiku has infiltrated the BMC? |

Ibegtodiffer: So one should not tell a Reverend or leader when he has gone wrong? It's not an attitude of a leader like that to show he is one-sided. If eventually, crisis comes up during the election (we don't pray for that) so do you expect one to bring someone who has shown his interest in one of the candidate to be a reference? 1 Like |

..and replace him with Rev Kumuyi. Didn't he visit PMB recently. Clowns! I think Kukah should even be commended for initiating seeing to the fruitful end of the reconciliation of the two prominent Nigerians. Isn't that also a part of the mandate of the National Peace Committee? |

LibertyRep: So the conflict going on in Plateau State, between Christians and Muslim doesn't call for their reconciliation effort? Why didn't they reconcile Buhari and Atiku? Saraki and Buhari? Kwankwaso and Ganduje? Obasanjo and Buhari? You can fool the gullible with this your population.. |

CilicMarin: You can't be sure what efforts are in the offing as regards the cases you mentioned. After all so many of us weren't aware of the efforts to reconcile Obasanjo and Atiku until it became public. |

mahdino: I don't agree that reconciling people is wrong. I'm sure you will agree that every Nigerian has the freedom to choose a political leader he wants. So assuming Bishop choose Atiku (which is not the case here), is that a bad thing. Fr. Mbaka choose Buhari in 2015, Kumuyi choose Buhari in 2018,. are those bad things? Let's be a bit objective na. |
