Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Abubakar Bwari, has said that private investment into mining projects is estimated at $2.32 billion in the country. Bwari, who disclosed this during the three-day 3rd yearly Nigeria Mining Week organised by the Miners Association of Nigeria in partnership with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Spintelligent in Abuja, also added that the investment was made possible due to government’s friendly mining climate such as gold mining and refining, lead/zinc exploration and production. He said: “Mining in Nigeria is private sector driven with the Federal Government restricted to regulatory and facilitation roles. There is no better time to invest in the sector than now.” In another development, the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) yesterday suspended the $400 surcharge imposed by some shipping companies on Apapa and Tin Can Island Ports. The NSC Executive Secretary, Mr. Hassan Bello, who disclosed this to journalists in Abuja, said the charge was suspended after a meeting with shipping companies that introduced it in Lagos. “They cannot just charge arbitrarily. The shippers’ council opposed the charges, especially because of the economy. Secondly, the procedure is wrong, you can’t slam charges without telling us.” https://www.akelicious.net/2018/10/private-investment-in-mining-sector.html 2 Likes |

Having a visionary President like Muhammadu Buhari who is bent on diversifying the economy and strengthening all areas is a sure way to prosperity, even though it'll be a gradual and slow journey. The benefit shall be felt by all in an unprecedented way. This is why we need to reelecte President Muhammadu Buhari. Nigeria shall be great again Buhari is still the best man for the job 17 Likes 1 Share |

Increased private sector investment is a good thing as long as the government is regulating. We need to limit the impact of capitalism in this country as much as we can. What about coal? Or has this been abandoned to reduce our carbon footprint in a country that isn't even producing the enough power? Looking forward to a more diversified economy. 3 Likes |

cooldipo: You mean you don't see any prospect in the report? You are the type that would want something directly for yourself from a government before you even agree that it exists. Investments birth physical structures, production plants and factories and jobs and revenues and social infrastructures among other things. |

UjSizzle:Even with the large quantity of coal we have in Nigeria, we are not among the Top 100 carbon polluting countries in the world, so we can actually do whatever we want with it.. Also, privatization is a good thing! Government in developed economies don't own energy utilities firms. They just regulate. 1 Like |
