You can actually contract a firm via Alibaba to manufacture OEM products (TV,cars,bikes,phones,etc) for you and just label it with a brand name which you can choose by yourself.

IVM ride was exposed as being exactly a carbon copy of another local chinese car some time ago but for the IVM logo.
Guess their defense? That they had an agreement with the company. This is basically Chinese OEM at best.

Until they start doing the design, research, etc, this is trash at best!

I don't know much about Solo, but I have used a Zinox computer ("that naija laptop", and have boarded an Innoson bus on a 7 hour journey, and can proudly tell you that they are both top notch and excellent machines. On the other hand, if you can swear you never used those loud, near-zero quality Chinese phones, or never used those fm/mp3 players, as well as used any of the machines you are gleefully bashing, and found them inferior, then I'd both take back my comments, as well as apologise, otherwise, GO TO BLOODY HELL!!

On the flipside, I am very happy that Igbo businesses are now adopting Igbo products. I discovered this earlier this year when I travelled home (Nnewi) and saw an Innoson branded Cutix Cables PLC vehicle, as well as GUO, Orizu and Peace Mass Transit companies all using Innoson's vehicles to run their businesses. Now, our amiable daughter has brought Innoson to the world.

No power, no steel, no mineral industry. Even USA import lots of the OEM from china, can you see trade war now between china and USA

We have to start somewhere, over time we will get better, provided the government does it own part.

I think we should all be critical thinkers and provide solutions in order to improve the existing status.

Zinox is a well known trash.

Any product you buy brand new lives for months without issues except you put it through the test of class. That is where the big dogs stand out.

Those voting machines are used once in years and dumped. The next election, new ones are acquired. So they are not really put through the test of class which usually sees most of them crashing unnecessarily the way Zinox laptops do.

The OEMs that the USA and developed manufacturers buy are based on the product design that these companies have thoroughly and painstakingly worked on. If you're building a house, you buy blocks or mould them yourself, you buy rods, etc based on the design, and then you unleash your powers.

Guess what we have in Nigeria? "I like that car, Mr. OEM car manufacturer, I would love to order 1000 pieces of those. But make sure you dissemble them and not paint them when shipping it. I want to assemble them myself".


Can't these guys be original by getting a good designer? Even if it's a freelancer. There are people with bad ass car designs here in Nigeria.

Get the design, do the painstaking research, then hit up the chinese OEM guys. This is what Apple and the rest do. Then when Apple is done with all the originality, a funny company in China will come and copy and put their own logo on Apple's work Then call it "kPhone"

We don't have the tools, but China does. But we have the brains here who can pull off mind boggling designs. Let's design it and give the Chinese guys to build exactly to our designs. We should stop rebranding OEMs. It makes us a mockery to the world. It's better to just be on crude oil and farming than to keep making a global fun of ourselves by doing absolute copy and paste.

We will gradually get to that level when we design and conceptualize our products. This is just one individual trying to do something. In the short run he seem to get all design & research input from china. But I look forward to better auto industry in Nigeria like in SA that even produce OEM and assemble as well.
