The Lagos state Emergency Management Agency LASEMA, has given an update of yesterdays Lagos tanker explosion that reportedly cost over 9 lives.

The emergency agency in a statement released this morning, said a minor was among the 9 persons burnt beyond recognition.

On getting to the scene of the incident it was discovered that a Mack tanker truck loaded with 33 liters of Motor Spirit (PMS) moving inward Berger at about 5:23pm, fell and spilled its content on the road resulting into fire outbreak. Further investigation by the Lasema Response Team.

Unfortunately 9 bodies were confirmed dead and recovered from the scene (8 adults and 1 minor) and 4 persons sustain various degrees of injuries and taken to the hospital. A total number of 54 vehicles were completely burnt as a result of the inferno.

The Agency's LASEMA Response Team, men of Lagos State Fire Service, LRU fire, LSNC, NSCDC, FRSC, LASAMBUS, LASTMA, SEHMU, LSPWC and Nigeria Police Force from Alausa and Isheri Division were the responders present at the scene. Effort on going to recover all burnt vehicles off the road. Recovery operations ongoing.

People had about 120secs to get out of their cars.

Hmm, all these dangers can b averted if d right thing is done. These heavy duty trucks should move only in D night, create alternative means of transportation for containers(sea), gasoline(railway) etc. We shouldn't just pray alone because prayers won't work if u don't put in efforts. Nigeria is a crawling country with d most prayerful citizens.

Even though I'm a born again Christian, the nonsense we Christians do on that road is enough to attract the anger of natural disasters. Christians have claimed Ibadan expressway as their entitlement hereby causing traffic jams with irresponsible church programs that would have been banned in Saudi Arabia or other sane countries. If that tanker driver had not encountered traffic jam due to Christian churches on that road, he would have swerved into the bush and this wasted lives will be saved. Federal government should please ban churches on Lagos Ibadan expressway
