I am ruled by hediots... I have no problem with this trend.

But if I were a govt. schooling in my state, you will need to learn my language as a course in your first 2-3 years...

But reasonable states are doing it., my governor is sheepishly running around with his big lips doing nothing but stealing

Tetiary institutions in Lagos

This is vague. Does the law mean all tetiary institutions in Lagos which includes Yabatech and UNILAG and other private institutions or Lagos state owned ones only?

Can this law be held in federal secondary schools like Kings and Queens college?

He said anyone seeking ission into the Lagos State University, Lagos State Polytechnic, Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Lagos State School of Nursing and Lagos State College of Health Technology, among others must have credit in Yoruba language.

Am not all for the law because I think it is discriminatory in a country like Nigeria but then that it is the law...

It's a good law only if it is postdated for two or three years to allow those who have just finished or about to finish secondary school get ission. It will take a while for every secondary school in Lagos to hire Yoruba teachers
Godsaves18(m): 10:26am On Feb 12, 2018
So me that wrote WAEC in 2010 and did not include Yoruba language, does it mean that I can't do my post graduate in LASU?

Henceforth, Ambode should address citizens in Yoruba with subtitles in other language(not forgetting sign language), if he does any different then this law is bogus and will not stand the test of time.

Besides, how many Nigerians converse in local languages these days?

As long as it affects only your state institutions. But your pool of talents are restricted. While nice, it's over ambitious.

Federal schools are not mandated to apply this in their ission process

Federal tertiary institutions are exempted but all primary and secondary schools; public and private must include Yoruba as part of their curriculum. This bill is a major one.

the first time i will critise Ambodes istration on a policy that is awfull for national integration. well nigerians dont care about stuff like this so am not surprised. this automatically shuts out all candidates from other regions from applying this schools. shamefull.

How is it backward? Must you seek ission into universities in Lagos? If you're not satisfied then find another choice.

You think I'm your mate that is seeking ission into school?

tdayof:

It's not like LASG give a damn about your opinion.

That's very possible. Politicians usually don't care about from people before making stupid laws. But as a taxpayer that pays millions of naira in taxes to the Lagos State Govt every year, I have the right to air my opinions on this law.

What a backward and retrogressive law.
If you want to 'preserve the Yoruba language', why not restrict this only to Yoruba people? Why is this not optional?

This is hostile to others, and disregards the fact that we have a national language in English to eliminate issues such as this. Essentially, this law makes it legal to go to a meeting in the Civil service and have the entire meeting conducted in yoruba language, to the exclusion of any present non-yoruba speaker.

Heck, you can even no use this law to hold lectures in LASU in 100% Yoruba.

Imagine if every tribe copies this and you then need to have a credit in Igbo language to even apply to Imsu angry

Disgraceful that there are some people here ing this shite.

I knew this was going to happen one day. Because no matter how educated a Yoruba person is they find it very difficult to speak English or pronounce another tribe's name. I won't be surprised very soon primary school teachers will be teaching all subjects with Yoruba and when they eventually travel to another place for youth service You See them finding it very difficult to communicate with good English. I'm Oduduwa is disappointed with this law where ever he is grin

Yes

Japan and China don’t give residence permits to foreigners no matter how many years you have lived there simply cos they don’t want any foreign influence on their cultures

Ehhmmm, partly yes, they taught with their language in schools and it makes understanding of the subject easy... Trust me, a little move can make a big shift... If this is well harnessed throughout the country in a civilized manner, it will make for a new era and turn things around...
