South African jazz musician Hugh Masekela had not seen his good friend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti for many years, so when he came to perform in Nigeria, he took the opportunity to visit his friend & the following conversation ensued. Hugh: I heard you got married to 27 women, where are they? I want to see them. Fela: (Hisses) I divorced them. Hugh: You divorced them? Why? Fela: My girlfriends were jealous Here is Hugh Masekela's cover of Fela's song, Lady. Hugh Masekela - Lady https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QjO6rHHqpw 13 Likes 1 Share |

I thought that I first heard this song at the Mandela concert at Wembley in 1988, but he didn't actually perform the song there. He actually performed the song a year earlier at Paul Simon's Graceland concert and this is the video. "Bring back, Nelson Mandela. Bring him back home to Soweto. I want to see him walking down the streets of South Africa (tomorrow)." Hugh Masekela - Bring Him Back Home. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NG3oKb2JQow 26 Likes 3 Shares |

Although I am no oldie from the 70s and 80s... I am a 90s kid, but I know and have heard of Hugh Masekela's musical legend all the way from the land of the rainbow nation, South Africa. He is popularly known as the king or father of South African Jazz music. I loved and got to listen to some of his many songs and tracks.... Not much but just a couple of them and "Bring Him back Home" stands out for me among very few others. Bring Him back Home was a song of hope and freedom. Africa have lost yet another musical legend... Well... So long Hugh. It is well. Meanwhile, Oga Naptu2, thanks for sharing some of his songs... But see as you wan take all the space sef.... Mehn na wa ooo... ![]() 1 Like 1 Share |
