THE POLITICISATION OF HERDSMEN MAYHEM

It is stating the obvious to assert that, the fragile cocoon of national security is leaving several citizens at the mercy of sundry marauders across Nigeria, particularly the Middle Belt. Equally, it is also not subtle to understand that, dressing each and every attention-capturing event with a political attire is not uncommon. The rampage that is widely imputed to Fulani herdsmen is now fully politicised, and as the Vice President said, politicisation of tragedy and insurgency holds the hallmark of adding petrol into an already burning fire. History has demonstrate how giving rampaging events a political characteristics can truly accentuate terrorism. But on average, people's mental underdevelopment, disguised in politics and ethnicity, wouldn't permit docility to history.

Following this predicament, one must marvel about individual perceptions. The Fulani mayhem did not emanate today. Long before the inception of this istration, this sort of rampage has been at play. It is indeed worth marvelling to realise how individuals are seriously engaging in blaming the President, who coincidentally happen to be Fulani by extraction, for his inaction in a bias effort to favour his ethnicity. Array of Fulani-Made casualties have been recorded from the previous istration combined. To be more demonstrative, in 2013 and 2014, Fulani herdsmen invaded communities across the middle axis of Nigeria and killed several persons demonstrating that the prevailing mayhem is not because the President is Fulani whatsoever. It is essentially the vulnerability of the nation's security. It is perhaps fair to blame the President without attaching his tribe to it, as the rampage did not emanate in May 2015, 2016, 2017 or 2018.

However, I also hold the view of the analysts who are strongly of the mind that 'Operation Scorpion Sting' should be proclaimed in Benue. Although the decision of Mr President to tentatively relocate the head of the Nigerian Police Force to the victimised state is commendable, but declaring the aforementioned military operation may be a good decision, looking at the sense of urgency it deserves. Without taking a judicious measure, it will allow room for further politicisation of the event, which in turn may ignite terrorism.

Furthermore, it is never an excuse for a government to bring into play the lukewarm attitude of its predecessor towards ensuring a rigid security. This is why the authorities in Abuja must, inspite the responsibility of Benue State government, attempt to curb the vicious event in the "Food Basket of the Nation." Any rampage that is capable of claiming more than 100 lives is worthy of serious attention from the presidency. In the past, various military operations such as Operation Lafiya Dole, Operation Crocodile Smile and Operation Python Dance have been employed to ensure peace and tranquillity. Employing Operation Scorpion Sting may just be the answer.

While it is important to recognise the mayhem of the herdsmen, it is also important, perhaps more so, to understand the erroneous attribution of almost every atrocities to Fulani. For instance, when some unknown armed robbers simultaneously robbed the only two banks and besieged the police station in Lapai area of Niger State, people were quick to say it is the Fulani herdsmen who are responsible. Later, that assertion was rightfully debunked. So there is a sense in which one can appreciate and probably embrace the position that say the killings is not by the Fulani herdsmen, or it is only partly by them. And this would interestingly lead one to the role of the media, particularly the electronic media. Understanding people's dependency on information, the media, under animated censorship, are killing people by the day. They are shouting fire where there is no fire. Politicisation is well and alive in that institution.

Going forward, no matter what is at stake, both the state and the federal government must understand that providing a secured enabling environment is its fundamental prerequisite. In other words, it is the first charge of necessity. If the perpetration persists, the government must do more than leaving Inspector Ibrahim Idris and his men in Benue. As a way of preventing this sort of event in the future, the government should not entertain impunity. Those who are responsible for any kind of terrorism must be dealt with accordingly. Nigeria must frown against impunity. Throughout the ages, people only conform more or deviate from perpetration appropriately if there is punishment of imprisonment or death. It is true that politics is part and parcel of all human endeavor, but politicisation to the detriment of security is something that can course a great havoc.

OP may ur family be slaughtered by d fulani herdsmen. Then let's see if u can summon d courage to put up an article like dis.

Most ppl now talk rubbish cos none of their family is a victim.

The president suddenly goes deaf n dumb but wen it comes to dealing with other ethnic groups or a peaceful protest, he sends d military.

Is dat no politicisation by president himself?

The writer of this article surely needs a brain check because even chameleon the reptile is a hundred times better than him.

Many people are talking about Fulani herdsmen because the dumb fellow in aso rock have been keeping quiet and not saying anything about the human lives being wasted even when the leader of the umbrella body miyyeti Allah cattle breeders have come out to give reasons why the attacks are happening and why it will continue until a state legislative law backed by the constitution have been revoked.

Nobody is even asking why he has not been arrested more than 24hours after the Benue state governor called for his arrest.

Buhari would have wiped out an entire generation if it were another ethnic tribe carrying out this dastardly act just as he ordered life bullets against unharmed ipob protesters and labelled them terrorist.

People should stop writing rubbish just because they want to fill their hungry belly.

The writer has spoken the truth. During Obasanjo regime an Igbo writer remarked, during the crisis between Fulani's and Tivs, said minorities in the North will continue to suffer because they ed the north in fighting Biafra etc he even added they the north in rigging census and would suffer for that. The point I am making is this same set of people have latched unto the herdsmen crisis as their trump card for 2019 elections because they intend to use divisions to win elections. But God will put them to shame like he did previously.

Please forgive me for posting this here, this is citizen's campaign and it has begin already.

we must be more smart in the 2019 election. everybody must vote

To every presidential aspirant, here is our requirement checklist if you actually want us to cast our votes for you in the coming 2019 election.

We don't care about what political party you belong to anymore -whether old party or new party, popular or unpopular; we don't care about what religion anymore; we don't care about what tribe or region anymore but
You

1. Must attend not less than 3 presidential debates: how do we know you're mentally stable and not a slowpoke if you cannot give reasonable responses to simple debate questioning?

2. Must undergo medical qualification tests: both the psychiatricals and others. The result must be verified by a notable medical and must be made availale to the general public.
People do medical tests even for secondary school ission, so why not for presidency aspiration.

3. Must have of governing plan (just like a business plan or a master plan) and make it available to the general public through the all the social media channels.
Bank cannot commit their cash to people without a good business plan with clearly written goals and objectives, figures, strategies and a guarantor, so how much more should we commit the life, future and properties of more than 150millions Nigerians to you without a plan.
In the plan must also be indicated your personer track records of successes.

4. Must have more than secondary school education. (There's nothing new about this)

5. Must have at least one of your children educated in a public university in Nigeria (not private): by this we will surely know that you believe in the future of Nigeria and that you will work towards her betterment.
This is a price not too much to pay if you realy love us.
We are tired of insensitivity of government towards the development of standards of educational setup in Nigeria, the strikes and industrial actions.

6. Must be a patronage of Nigerian made products and services and you must believe in capacity building of Nigerian indigenous businesses to provide exportable products and services to neighbouring countries, Africa and the world at large.

7. Must be wide reader and self development enthusiast: If you don't constantly feed your mind with transformative, educative and informative ideas through books, you don't have a business doing with presidency in Nigeria.
We are tired of archaic approaches to human governing. We need mordern, liberated and future oriented leaders to lead us in Nigeria, not power mongers, who just want to be in government for power, fame and monetary gain.

8. Must be within the working age range (younger than 60 years): "what's good for the goose is good for the gander".
Towards old age, people become less and less physically, socially, mentally and psychologically fit to cope with occupational demands, not to talk of rulling a nation of more than150million citizens, so retirement is compulsory.
The retirement age in Nigeria civil service guided by decree No. 102 of 1979 that dealt with pension and gratuity pegged the statutory age of retirement for public officers at 60 years, while it is 65 years for judiciary officers and 70 for academic staff of universities. However with reform of civil service decree No. 43 of 1988, retirement age has been put at 60 years or 35 years in service.

9. Must have no public record of hate speech, tribalism, nepotism, crime against humanity, pending corruption charges or history, and or affiliation with any millitant group or religion fundamentalist group or terrorist group :
We will never ever think again that people will change. Ascenssion to power only gives people the chance to express their true self.

10. Must have done something contributary to the development of your immediate environment: this is simple, is'nt it?

11. Must be well educated about the constitution of Nigeria. We are tired of reminding the government what to do and what's not to do. We are tired of reminding the government about what's in the costitution they swear to uphold. This is 21st century.
The INEC in collaoration with the National Assembly and the Judiciary Counsel of Nigeria should create an online platform where common citizen can get proper education about the Nigerian constitution. They should maku use of shot animated videos and other training material. Certificates should also be awarded.

a problem Nigerians often have is their inability to put certain scenarios/issues within definitive contexts...

for instance, while it is true that not all attacks in the MB are actually committed by the Herdsmen, the APC when it was in the opposition, made political gains out of every mishap suffered by the previous government...

for instance, of the present istration, including pmb himself, often took positions that were at variance with the then government that was trying to contain the BH sect... they were almost almost applauding the BH for every attack it carried out because it made GEJ look bad...

it was same with gas pipeline vandals...

rather than rally round & condemn the economic saboteurs who were purposely blowing up gas pipelines supplying gas to power stations, the APC preferred to castigate GEJ even when it knew full well that criminals were sabotaging the nation's power drive...

today, the APC is having its own battles & pmb must face the music squarely...

OBJ brought the OPC (Yorubas) under check in the south west...

GEJ put a stop to insistent clashes and a brewing militia war in the ND...

pmb needs to rein in the herdsmen & BH in the north...
