If the maximum value of y = 1+ hx -3x^2 is 13, find h
|
Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by Nobody: 4:05am On Oct 15, 2017 |
EngrBello: the maximum value occurs when the derivative (dy/dx=0) hence differentiating we have h-6x=0; => x=h/6. so substitute x into the first equation, we get ymax=1+h(h/6)-3(h/6)^2= 1+(h)^2/6-(h)^2/12=1+(h)^2/12; => ymax=1+(h)^2/12; but we were told from the question that ymax=13; 13=1+h^2/12=> 12=h^2/12. Hence h^2=144, which implies h =+12 or -12. 1 Like |

efficiencie(m): 11:02am On Oct 16, 2017 |
EngrBello: let u=4x and hence y=3cosu du/dx=4 and dy/du=-3sinu=-3sin4x but dy/dx=dy/du * du/dx dy/dx=4 * (-3sin4x) dy/dx = -12sin4x 1 Like |

A bag of rice feeds 15 students for 7days.How long would the same bag feed 10 students
|
efficiencie(m): 3:04pm On Oct 18, 2017 |
EngrBello: 4 days and 16minutes |
ratioxyz: 6:25am On Oct 19, 2017 |
EngrBello:It's indirect proportion so the right answer is (15 x 7)/10 =10. 5days = 10days, 12 hours 1 Like |

efficiencie: Just a tip to answering maths and physics questions: There are some questions that we may not really be able to solve, but we would be able to predict the answers. This question is one of them. Without solving, one would automatically know the answer to the question above would be greater than 7days. Because, If a bag can feed 15 students for 7days, Then that same bag would logically feed a 'lesser number of 10 students' for a period of more than 7days. This would be highly useful to jambites. It's one of the tips to scoring high in UTME ![]() 2 Likes |

There still no valid answer to the simultaneous equations below without manipulation... X + Y = 5 X^X + Y^Y = 31 please, anybody with the right solution should help a brother. |

Hello house. Sorry for derailing but I have a small problem in Chemistry that needs urgent attention. Make up 50ml of HCL concentration at 25ppm from 100ppm thanks. |
Mechanics96(m): 11:54am On Nov 15, 2017 |
Xsem: He must have started with 52 cards; Let the no of cards he started with be x x- 1/4x +6 = x-7 4x-x+24= 4x-28 x=24+28 x=52 |
