Treasury Bills In Nigeria (5058170 Views)
amjustme2: 11:02am On Oct 04, 2017 |
I am no economic analyst, but if this is true, then we could see a loaf of bread for N7,000. Inflation is coming, maybe worse than we have seen. Maybe your N100,000 Tbills principal could only buy 1 a pair of moderate shoe, by the time the tenor has elapse. Unless this recklessness cease immediately. The economic policies of the present istration is alarming, don't scream at me. I am entitled to my personal opinion. Feelamong the 'father' of this thread raised this alarm about a week ago of this development. Diversification is the key now. That's why many people, including me have embraced crypto, after devising a means to manage the risk, at least volatility is better than inflation. katamo: 4 Likes 1 Share |

priscaver: Its true that some brokers and even banks don't do TB less than 1M but others do. So the best thing for you to do if you still want to invest in TB is to ask your broker to transfer that money to your bank . Since it seem you only have GTB and UBA, the money should be transferred into your GTB for you. Some UBA branches don't do less that 1M too so I do not know where yours belong but with GTB you can do invest in primary... Their secondary is not like FBN or even stanbic.. From my own experience getting secondary in GTB most times is based on luck. Good luck |

katamo: Nice point, sir. But no matter how bad it gets, TB will always be better than leaving your money in the bank insofar as you will get your money back. 1 Like |

@ 15% we are not still doing badly......unless it drops below 12%. my risk endurance ratio is very very low. I cannot fit to take risk with years of savings. 7yrs exactly. |

feelamong: Its not a joke. Look at demand and supply. Well, just like feelamong stated, we have been there when rates were 9%. I have even bought far below 9% in the past. The reason i have always referred to the over 18% as happy times. Just swallow the pills, for happy times are over but may come again sometimes in the future. |

U1: Agreed. You will essentially be losing money if you leave it in a bank as the interest you will get will be lower than the inflation rate. Here are a couple of ways for people in the group to brace for higher inflation: 1. Stay away from long-term fixed income investments - T-bills will be fine because rates will adjust upwards to for inflation. 2. Real estate is usually the best asset to invest in in times of high inflation, and often sees its greatest price appreciation during such periods. 3. Invest in sectors of the stock market that benefit from inflation including energy/oil, food, building materials etc. 4. Invest in gold and other precious metals. Other in the group, feel free to add to this! 2 Likes |

katamo:How do one invest in gold and other precious metals? |
katamo: 6:53pm On Oct 04, 2017 |
Mup4life: You can invest in exchange traded funds that invest directly in actual gold or gold stocks. Here is one that used to trade on Nigerian stock exchange from Absa, the South African bank, that buys actual. (Caveat: This is not a recommendation! Just meant to give you an idea of what gold ETFs do). http://etfcib.absa.co.za/Fund%20Documents/NewGold%2030062017.pdf One other option I forgot to mention is to convert your cash to other currencies and think about investing in non-naira denominated assets as inflation will result in the naira falling against other currencies. |

Please I need some clarification, what is the implicatiom of stop rate. I have some money that I intend to put in TB. For 1 month now FCMB has not been able to get me 363 days tenor so I ask, is it a message ? I am presently embarking on a building project, should I go ahead and divert the money to the building project or invest in TB ? Which do you all tjink is more profitable decision. Cement is presently 2,550 what if the price comes down ? It will be painful if the price comes down and I had bought for housing project at this price. So essentially from the data available and analysis, would you advise me to invest the money in the project or rather invest in TB. |

Santino1: The party is almost over, sub 10% is very possible by December 2017. Guys should strive for multiple streams of income and learn to keep their options open and flexible. |
