You really should worry about your own country, Ghana. Don't you have enough problems sourcing money to pay your debts for Nigerian gas etc?

As for Nigeria, oil is only a small part of the economy.

''The petroleum industry in Nigeria is the largest on the African continent. As of 2014, Nigeria's petroleum industry contributes about 14% to its economy. Therefore, though the petroleum sector is important, it remains in fact a small part of the country's overall diversified economy.''

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroleum_industry_in_Nigeria

you got your facts from wikipedia? i could tell yuo were such a lazy student in school .. please get information from much more credible sources .. grin

this is more like what the situation is:
- oil revenue contributes over 90% of Forex earnings in Nigeria ....
- the Naira has been shielded from market volatility through currency pegging ....
- due to slump in oil prices, not enough Forex is being earned to sustain the overvalued Naira ...
- as a result the Naira depreciated at the parallel market (which is a true reflection of the exchange market) and further widened the gap between the interbank/official rate and the market rate. An avenue for the greedy bankers and Forex traders to make huge money by just clicking the mouse
- the CBN/government thought they could outsmart investors. Instead of fully floating the Naira, they moved the peg from 199 to about 283 (now 305)
- Investors, not being mumu, could sense some mischief that the Naira is being controlled, hence did not bother to invest much into the economy
- Now the economy is in recession, manufacturers can't access Forex at the interbank rate to source inputs for production
- business are being restricted from remitting their funds
- International funds transfer has practically been stopped.

If the economy is indeed as diverse as your source 'wikipedia' revealed, why are all these happening? Is it that the economy is built on a foundation of straw or is a case of old-school economic policies adopted by the CBN/Government?

Nigeria has been the largest producer of oil on the continent. however in of oil reserves, a country like Libya may come on top. Even with that Angola is in a better position in of oil production given the size of her population. The most favourable factor for Nigeria is her huge population which provides a larger market for business. However the huge population presents its own challenges in of infrastructure provision and security.

comparing Ghana and Nigeria GDP is like .. Comparing a man that has 2 million and gave birth to 20 children vs a man that has 1 million and gave birth to 2 children..

Is not about GDP and size of land mass but size of population that needs to be catered for and quality of life of every single individual..

NIgeria wealth per individual always stems from the idea of traders who like the Lebanese move their trade to other countries with cash at hand....creating the idea to foreigners that Nigeria is rich like we see some Lebanese...

Take away this traders which i believe majority are igbo men..lets look into NIgeria and see how rich they are.

I seriously dont understand these bokoharam people.
What is the sense in comparing a country like nigeria to Ghana ?
Its not even logical
Apart from GDP Ghana is far ahead of nigeria in everything positive.
Ghana tops all west African countries in HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDEX
Ghana has the best Schools in West Africa
Ghana has the best infrastructure in West Africa
Ghana is the most organised country in west Africa.
Ghana has the best city in west Africa
Ghana is the safest country in west Africa
Ghana has the lowest poverty level in West Africa
Ghana is the best footballing nation in West Africa
All the best and biggest hospitals in West Africa are found in Ghana .
All the biggest shopping malls in West Africa are in Ghana
The most intelligent people in west africa are Ghanaians.
Ghanaian students and schools always tops in West African Examinations.

Literacy rate - Nigeria 59.60%; Ghana 76.60%

Access to improved water - Nigeria 68.50%; Ghana 88.70%

Acccess to electricity - Nigeria 45%; Ghana 80%

Mobile penetration - Nigeria 83.00%; Ghana 133%

HIV Prevalence rate - Nigeria 3.17% Ghana 1.40%

Maternal mortality per 100,000 live births - Nigeria 814; Ghana 319

Infant Mortality per 1000 live births - Nigeria 71; Ghana 36

Life Expectancy at birth - Nigeria 53.4 years; Ghana 66.6 years

HDI - Nigeria 0.51; Ghana 0.58

GINI index - Nigeria 43; Ghana 39

Visa free score (port) - Nigeria 44; Ghana 61

IN A NUTSHELL GHANA IS LIKE AMERICA TO nigerians and other west africans.
Every nigerian wants to be in Ghana but there's no way a Ghanaian will even dream of travelling to a country like nigeria .
In Ghana we don't fancy private universities but nigerians and other west africans have taken over .
Comparing a good for nothing country like nigeria to Ghana is a very big insult to Ghana.

Here are the photos and profiles of the 4 Nigerians who are to be executed in Indonesia for drug trafficking.

Martin Anderson: 50 year old Martin Anderson (above) was arrested in Jakarta in 2003 on a charge of possessing about 1.8 ounces of heroin and was accused of being part of a local drug ring.

He had traveled to Indonesia on a fake Ghanaian port and has been incorrectly identified as Ghanaian.https://nairaland.unblockandhide.com/2278519/photos-profiles-4-nigerians-executed

Stop grasping on air. Crude oil is what makes Nigeria thick. Recession you're experiencing now is because of low oil price and disruption of oil flow. What will happen in the case of zero oil production or alternative energy to oil? I repeat the entire population of Nigeria is unproductive. A country that imports virtually everything including tooth pick is grossly unproductive. When you tell yourself the truth and accept it is when start thinking of a way foward. Stop deceiving yourself.

Preach oh,keep preaching the gospel of truth.Companies keep leaving Nigeria left and right because of poor economy, bad trading environment and serious lack of foreign exchange.
