Ikpeazu reduces tuition fees for Abians in ABSU

The Abia State Executive Council has approved N10,000 reduction of the Abia State University (ABSU) school fees for Abia indigenes in ABSU.

Also approved is the immediate relocation of the Faculties of Law and Humanities to Umuahia while Faculty of Engineering is to be relocated to Aba.

The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Strategy, Comrade Bonnie Iwuoha disclosed these while addressing journalists after this week's EXCO meeting. The Commissioner informed that the reduction in school fees was to encourage poor and needy Abia indigenes to go to school, adding that each student from Abia would prove his identity by presentation of tax receipts of their parents or guidance and biometrically.

Comrade Iwuoha further said that in an effort to improve IGR in the State, government has withdrawn all previous approval given to MDAs which permitted them to collect all forms of revenue, saying that, henceforth, all such money should be paid into the IGR made available by the BIR.

According to the Information boss, rehabilitation of Umuahia water project is on and it will serve Umuahia North, Umuahia South and Ikwuano, while steps are are on to restore water supply in Aba.

Also work has commenced in Ohambele, where 100,000 oil palm seedlings have been planted with hope that Abia will become one of the major producers of palm oil.

On education, the 1st phase of the free school meal programme has successfully been tested and the 2nd phase will take place when schools resume.

The EXCO also approved the enforcement of State and Local government t projects, especially to ensure rural roads are fixed.

Is the school fees that high? I learnt the 10k is not even up to 15%. State universities are just there to siphon money from the masses. Our governors need to look for other means to diversify economy. With this economic hardship, school fees supposed not to be more than 40k.

It's restricted to indigenes of the state. Other indigenes should meet their state governors too for assistant

Abia state must shine whether they like it or not, there are numerous untapped potentials

The Governor should help construct Aba Roads. There are more important things to do than this. Why una no snap Port-Harcourt Road picture put so that people go see how Abians the suffer.

This is really small but still commendable.

A school that pays up to #150,000 per session depending on some courses will no that the discount is nothing, most especially in this harsh period.

For ur information incase u don't know, or in case ur P.A's dem are not giving u current info. Go and see and confirm that there are no more roads in Aba. All roads and I mean ALL ROADS re COMPLETELY dilapidated, no more move ment, a one drop trip is now 3 drops, even the 3 drops dey pain for body. U re here slashing fees.
