It is only in yoruba land that we see something like Emir of Ilorin instead of oba.....I don't think Afonja is resting in peace for such enslavement.

elmisti:From my knowledge about this things, it isn't culture that changed the kwaras,it is religion, both Islam and Christianity. the esie soap sculpture museum is still in kwara state, www.vanguardngr.com/2012/01/esie-stone-images-in-igbomina/ and a host of other Yoruba practices, and yes kwarans practice and acts Yoruba with no atom of Hausa, maybe a few though but not the majority. 4 Likes |

These people are local govt workers and were protesting over non payment of salaries. Constitutionally, it is the duty of local councils to pay them as the state govt also caters for the salary obligations of its workers. Despite this, the Kwara state government under Gov. Ahmed is making frantic efforts to ensure the problem is resolved. The State govt is proposing to take over funding of Junior secondary education from the Local governments. This will be reduce the financial burden of the LGs. We should understand that the salary crises is not peculiar to Kwara only, it affects almost every state in the country. Few days ago, local govt workers in Edo State protested over nonpayment of their 17month salaries. In Nassarawa, workers are still on strike and the governor has told them to accept 50 per cent cut in their salaries. In ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Delta, Plateau, Kogi, Niger, Oyo, etc, the salary situation is almost the same. There is a need for the national and state govts to take measures to revive our economy, else, the salary problems will persist. The sad reality is that no amount of demonstrations or protest by workers will solve the problem. It is time government at all levels think for ways to improve the economy. This is my humble opinion. You're entitled to yours as well. 1 Like |

elmisti: I schooled with the grandson of the late Oba of Lagos, the present Emir of Ilorin, the son of the Oba of Efon Alaaye and other royals. We all spoke Yoruba when we were not speaking English. The Gambari guy couldn't speak a complete sentence in Hausa or Fulani even to the Hausa and Fulani guys in school. I think this goes to show who is what. 5 Likes |
