U mean Physics with Production Technology option? Well breaking it down; Servicing firms employ physics graduates alot. They work as MWD/LWD Engineers, Wireline Engineers some are even Petrophysicists and Pore Pressure Engineers. And also Production technology (P. Tech) is d next big thing in d oil industry these days.
Sir,what are the chances of getting job as a MWD trained personnel in 9ja!

All three guarantee job security and attractive pay package. Drilling and subsea are particularly great.
There are various services offered in the oil industry. Except for consulting and a few other services, it's capital intensive to set up an O & G firm except you do it with other partners that are willing to provide required funds. What type of O & G firm do you intend to set up?

i think if u read wat i posted "strong lower" u shud b sensible enuf to know something wud a gone wrong for someone on upper credit to fall on strong lower bsides she neva even asked for d grade neither wad she ready to rrad through d c.v. dats by d way.
I only submitted d c.v @ her office and cald to confirm if d c.v had gotten to her table and she tld me to start coming not knowing she hadnt scaned through d c.v self.
its true she said she needed an experienced person @ dat time however i neva pleaded for her to collect me by force i only needed a voluntary job or internship.
Either lower or ,you would get to that position God has destined for you,by strength shall no man prevail,do your best and leave the rest. Most importantly right here in Ph getting a job(majority I have seen) got their jobs(he got in biochem,he worked as a contract staff in spie and few other offshore jobs I think he has d swimming cert and h.se cert,he recently did instrumentation course though he his out of job for now) via an inside man;getting your cv in the right hands who are part of the decision makers who can vouch for you .I don't need to work in an oil and gas firm to make it in life neither do I need an american visa as majority thinks!
Diff strokes for diff folks, some wld get to the top by their own step and sweat, many others would get to that same top with the help of Gods divine connection to influential persons. Finally in all we do let's pray to God for direction . Very soon I look forward to testify to the name of God who has never failed me despite my shortcomings!

if u need a good job prospect, go for chemical where u can work almost anyway. but if u want to be limited to working in oil company alone, go for petroleum. the two have better chances of being employ by oil companies at entry-level position.

Sir, I just concluded My Msc Physics(Atmopheric Physics) in september 2015 at the famous university of Ibadan and I had B.Tech in Pure and Applied Physics(2:2) and am 26yrs now I usually see some Job vacancy online in relation to oil and gas but am always afraid because they always ask for 5-6yrs experience I usually apply since I have finished my msc, what's my chance of getting such job without having such experience but I've gone for field work on VES, some Geophysical prospecting method, Logging while drilling and Measurement while drilling, how to use terrimeter and magnetometer and more also I've my CCNA, I can analyse data also using some statistical data like spss, ferret and excel, I also use programming language such as c++ and python... I've not apply for any job except now that I've finished my msc.. pls I need ur advise.

My brother in SS3 is an oil&gas dreamer... Can you advice him on what course to study in UNN? He is considering BioResources Engineering as it possibly relates to all these gas flaring issues etc.

What course would you advice him to fill in for his JAMB as First choice?
Bio Resource Engineering?
Geology?
Suggest yours too

Thank you sir.. Will communicate to him even though he is literally in love with Bio Resource Engineering. Lol

As regards me.. I'm 21 with a BSc and MSc in Architecture. Set for youth service this month. Any opportunity in the O&G sector with my degrees/course of study?
Am planning on enrolling for NISP cert courses which includes HSE, etc during my service year in Oyo.

Since he is considering an engineering discipline, let him consider the traditional engineering courses such as mechanical , chemical or electrical engineering. The traditional engineering disciplines remain the most versatile disciplines not only in the oil industry but in other industries as well. Bioresources engineering is relatively new and is very much restrictive for now. Bioresources does not have anything to do with crude oil and natural gas but rather deals with renewable energy sources such as bioethanol, biogas, wind, solar, etc. However, this advice is only applicable if he is truly ionate about engineering. Geology will also restrict him to only certain industries such as oil and gas which is already saturated with many qualified geology graduates still looking for opportunities.

However, advise him not to be obsessed with the oil industry. Instead he should study a course he is really ionate about. Oil and gas is certainly not the end of life, as one can live a fulfilled and even richer life doing something else. There is absolutely no guarantee he will end up in the oil and gas industry irrespective course studied.

Both courses are okay. However, do not be obsessed about ending up in the oil industry. Think more of where your ion lies, your strengths and where you can add value.
I am always concerned when I see young ones focusing only the oil and gas industry cos statistics has shown that most people will not end up in the industry. As we speak, the total number of both regular and contract staffs in the payroll of Shell, Mobil, Total, NNPC, NLNG, Agip, Chevron, Schlumberger, Halliburton and a few other notable oil firms is definitely not up to 150,000. This is in a country that produces more than 400 or 500 thousand graduates yearly through the NYSC scheme with millions already looking for opportunities in the industry.
Focus on the right priorities, develop yourself and you will most likely find yourself in the oil industry even without giving it much of a thought.
