Exactly my story one year ago. My MD/CEO text me a job link to apply. As I got the text I was confused and so worried that i'm losing my job. I encouraged myself with the thought that the text wasn't meant for me. As I was in that state, my phone rang and behold it was my boss. He said, did u receive any text and I said yes. And he said don't u like to work there? I answered, sir i'm still ur staff and beside i'm not complaining but if it is your wish I work there no problem. At that point he didn't say a word for like 2mins. The next thing he said, did u know u are qualified to be the Governor of the state. Don't worry apply and also come with your documents to my house in the evening. To cut the long story short, I hammer the job. No interview but given a report written by another person to edit. MD might mean well or testing the guy's loyalty to humble beginnings. My response to the MD would ... No sir, I'll stick with you to greater heights. Except of course your company is not making money and MD is good enough not wanting you to suffersuffer.

sometimes some bosses hav ur best interests at heart.... Dnt feign negative loyalty wen such arises...

I will encourage you to apply since your MD suggested it.
However, I will ask you to carry him along in the scheme of things. When you've applied, tell him. When invitation come for interview, tell him. And when you are going for the interview, tell and when you are back, tell him the outcome of your interview performance. Don't be surprised that he might be a shareholder in the firm he is encouraging you to apply.

He might just want you to grow bigger or feels you have more potential than what you are currently doing.

Trust me, if he is planning to fire you, he will not send you any gaddemn link.

Do a background check on the company, it could be that he values your expertise as he plans to move there too... is that company hiring?

Look before you leap, you may be on your way to better days or this is just Doomsday Conspiracy.

We still have good people in Nigeria who mean well for others. I understand your fear because such virtue is scarce!
But there could be other factors responsible for this of cause will help you to make a decision because at the end, you know your boss better since you work and interact with him.
I hope these help:
1. The organization could be his, unknown to anyone and he needs your potentials there not where you are currently.
2. You might be a professional doing your work diligently which some boss with low self esteem perceive as "too know" he might feel you are exposing his flaws and want you out of the way!
3.If your boss is the type that is always looking for excuses where there is none or find it difficult to pay workers at the end of the month, it might actually be a trap!
I know someone like that that pays part pension for her workers so she started employing new workers without any agreement to pay for pension while tailing the old ones so at any slight mistake or she got information that you were seen at an interview, she sacks you!
If after this analysis, you still cannot place him any where even whichever decision you take,
I suggest that you meet with him while thanking him for his confidence in you. Pose a question to him I.e what have I done to deserve such generosity from you sir?
From his expression/interaction, you will know what to do!

If your MD doesn't want you. ..he would simply fire you. You are still employed.... he is telling you to apply....not to quit then apply. He is telling you what you should be doing on your own....trying to move up in your profession...trying to progress....and here you are asking. He may fire you for not applying....cause it shows you are not the type who wants to move to higher levels... so why would you move his company to higher levels?

It means you have a good boss. my immediate boss has forwarded different vacancies to me and even asked later if i have applied.
