While plastering make the pond sloppy towards the drainage for easy flow of water while flushing .

In addition, while constructing the drainage pipe ensure that the pipe is slightly above the base of the concrete to avoid 100% drainage of water. This is so because incase of accident leakage overnight, there will be little water left to keep the fishes not too stressed. Tnx

Please guys I don't know if there are people in here who have experience in Poultry farming, my hubby and I have some cockerels we are raising for Xmas, we feed them with the remains of local feeds used in feeding our fish ( dust), believe me the birds are so grown now that u hardly believe they're three months old, and there's not been any case of mortality, Now we have just acquired some set of 4 weeks broilers for Xmas sales, I will like to find out if we can feed the broiler chicks with dust owing to the fragility of the birds, cos we have heard the presence of blood meal in the local feeds meant for fish can cause death in the chicks....

Thanks, the pond will actually be concrete to to 4 ft before adding few blocks at the top.

At the initial stage, please use the normal feed to rear them when they are still small. As time goes by you could give them the dust from the local feeds however to be on a saver side, add oxytetracycline to the dust. Peradventure, there is any disease in the blood meal, the drug is capable of taken care of it.

* make sure the plastic pipes used for drainage is the big type. Ie that type used for sewage.
* make sure that the pond floor slopes towards the drainage pipes buried at the edge of the pond, so as to allow total drainage.
* make sure that cement use is well sufficient. Let them not manage especially the cement to be used in the inner covering of the pond should be high, it will make it last .
* make your gutter layout that can accommodate all the ponds to be built both now and the future.
* have a map of where the overhead tanks is going to be that can supply your ponds with water in any emergency need .
* have a place designed for the Iya eleja... Market women so they don't come too close to your ponds. For safety reasonsreasons
That's my 1kobo suggestion you can also take the pictures as a guide( plus or minus as you want)

i m based in Enugu. i have just two questtions for you

oga Ayosat u too correct, about having a place for the market women we all need to adopt that approach. let them have a their own corner, give them some sample of the fish and negotiate price first before draining of water.

Good day all. I'm new to this fantastic thread and I would like to say well done to everybody on their great work and thank everyone for sharing their knowledge.

I'm am soon to start digging earthern ponds and would wish for some kind people to share some information if they wish. I shall tell you my plan and and criticism or guide nice would be much appreciated

My partner and I have been discussing the size of each pond and decided 60 x 30 m
I understand this is quite big and have been thinking recently that going smaller nights be best but what do think? The reason for this size is of course to have more fish. From my understanding I have calculated 2 fish per square meter. So 3600 fish per pond. Water supply is plenty.
