happy Sunday farmers in d house. my 200 black layers are now 21 weeks old and we already have 26 eggs today. presently they. eat a bag 25kg of grower feed. the question is when I'm I to change to layers feed. thanks |
kelvin961: 2:57pm On Mar 15, 2015 |
fishleg123: Pls change now.....u ought to VE changed wen they VE laid 5%.....but not withstanding..... Just change now......pls wen changing to layer's mash let it be a gradual process..... |
fishleg123: 4:02pm On Mar 15, 2015 |
kelvin961:pls, how I'm i to make d change a gradual process. is it by mixing grower and layers mash together. if so, what's is d ratio to use. thanks |
kelvin96: 4:48pm On Mar 15, 2015 |
@fishleg123 .....if not for the fact dat it has gone far from 5% i would ve advised u use 75% of grower to 25% of layers mash....then 50%-50% grower/layermash ,then d next day u will use 75% of layer mash to 25% of growermash and then layermash fully....but the way it is now if i were u.....i will just use 50% -50% 2moro den full layers mash d next day. ......Goodluck

fishleg123: 5:06pm On Mar 15, 2015 |
if I may ask, Mr kelvin96, pls what's is d different between layers mash and grower mash. why must one switch to layer mash. thanks. |
kelvin96: 5:51pm On Mar 15, 2015 |
@fishleg123, layers mash has higher energy and in some cases it has higher protein too....your birds at this stage needs more protein dat will enable them form eggs and extra energy that will strengthen dem while laying this eggs....if u continue with grower it will wear dem out and before u know it ....they will be stressed up and it can led to anytin.....hope u know what dat means.

kelvin96:thanks so much for d info. I've collected 31 eggs today. I will start giving them d layer mash as soon as possible. thanks. |
Eggcelent(m): 8:25pm On Mar 15, 2015 |
fishleg. First, congratulations on getting to this point successfully. In addition to what kelvin96 and/or kelvin961 said earlier, layers mash contain higher calcium content which is needed for formation of egg shell. Continuing with growers mash beyond a certain point means your birds may develop ricket as they draw calcium from their bones to make egg shell. Meanwhile, opinions differ on when to switch to layers mash. I'm of the school of thought that the best time to switch is when the birds are between 30 - 40% daily laying capacity. However, the consensus is that the change must be gradual. Success.

Dear All, I have eggs to sell from my farm around Asejire (i.e. along Ibadan - Ife road, before Ikire). I am ideally looking for regular customers who can lift around 200 crates in a week. Please if you have anyone who is an egg dealer who is interested please do get in touch on Xxxxxxx. I have small customers who buy 15, 20 or 25 crates at a time but this is not very good for cash flow and hence the need for customers who can buy in higher numbers. Thanks. |
obnelly: 10:22am On Mar 16, 2015 |
SGN:You may quote me anywhere those customer buying 15,20 and 25 crates are more reliable than those buying 200 crates.when you have gluts you will understand what I am saying. Bulk buyer buys when its cheaper so during gluts most of them visit farms with the cheapest price. |
SGN(m): 10:37am On Mar 16, 2015 |
@obnelly I agree... but I also have another issue - and that is I am not physically present there to manage the day-to-day activities, so a lot slip through because of that, and I think consolidating many customers into a few can help put thing under control a little bit and help the cash flow. Thanks for the response. |
laposta: 11:22am On Mar 16, 2015 |
@SGN Don't do it that way. If a bulk buyer does not honour his or her purchase in any one week, you will be running around to spread out the massive stock you have on hand. You can work with one bulk buyer and so many other buyers that can help absorb the shock if the bulk buyer disappoints. |
davidzfarm18(m): 12:04pm On Mar 16, 2015 |
fishleg123:Congratulations. In addition to all that have been discussed. I suggest you change very gradually. day 1. 80 growers to 20 layers day 2. 60 growers to 40 layer day 3. 40 growers to 60 layers day 4. 20 growers to 80 layers you switch completely at day 5. pls ensure you give them multivitamins. equally their consumption has to increase considerable in the next 2wks. meanwhile. if they are alreadily eating 1 bag at 21 wks pls check to ensure that the feeds are not being wasted. their consumption should be at 21kg per day now and increase to 1 bag in the next 3 wks. Except the feed is low on energy. 1 Like 1 Share |
