Fellow NLs,

Greetings. Please help make a decision.

Which will pay off better. The intention is to do an online degree in either Masters in Management Information Systems or MBA in Finance from a foreign University. Current background and work experience cover both - More in Information Systems (5years) but recently in financial planning (2 years).
Great Excel spreadsheet skills and database development with a strong love for developing automated spreadsheets/database for data tracking and operations management. Have a first degree in Business istration too. However, I am finding financial modeling very interesting. Which ever, I need something that will guarantee me a good income.

All sincere responses will be highly appreciated please.

Do an MBA by all means possible. Financial planning is a good one for the direction of the economy.

Businesses in Nigeria are now awake to the Private Equity style of running organisations wherein the capital structure is lowly leveraged and a lot of planning and forecasts are necessary for additional Equity/debt. That being said, with the rate of FDI into the country and alot of new businesses are springing up, your Planning and Analysis skills are necessary, as modern and result-oriented employers now prefer people with business management/ Entrepreneurial/innovating skills. This is because, you are now required to do your forecast like the 'business owner' e.g understanding how the Lease or buy decision for a Capex item affects profitability, liquidity, Human Asset, Sustainability, Corporate governance, etc. "gone were the days of....'my work is financial analysis, why am i concerned with recruitment?'... "

Expertise in Info Mgt is something you can acquire with experience even as an Analyst or low level officer. So also, MBA is garner-able by experience but at Management level.

MBA can be studied and used in your work as an officer to attain Management cadre quickly. Either ways, u will need an MBA by study or by experience if you plan to attain leadership in an organisation. [s]I am not sure everyone needs info mgt to attain that, rather a professional qualification might just be sufficient[/s]. Its like saying, you wanna opt for MSc ing when there is ACCA/ICAN.

Hello Sir.

I know this is a very old thread of yours. I hope you were able to make the right decision as to which direction to go through.

I have a degree in Business istration too. But can you tell me how I can break into information Systems?
