Ghana Currency Achieves Single Digit Value Against The Dollar (2820 Views)
Okoroawusa: 7:25am On May 31 |
9 Cedis is 90000 Cedis. When Cedis was redominated in 2007, it was 10000 Cedis to USD. Four zeroes were removed to make it 1 Cedis to 1 USD. Now it has depreciated to 90000 Cedis and you are all clapping. I never knew we had this much Gen Z on Nairaland. 8 Likes 1 Share |

DatIgalaDude: Ghana redecimalised their currency and removed 4 zeroes from it overnight, pure mago mago that caused a lot of suffering and political careers to end over there. If Cardoso redecimalises Naira now and we start going through the short and medium term pain that arises as a result, in a bid to get to single digit value, you will not let us rest. When you hear news like this, to put it in context. We have nothing to learn from Ghana finance wise despite PDP and Bubu runing the country and Naira to the ground. 3 Likes 1 Share |

brain54:You can buy Ghanaian yam and palm oil in supermarkets in Europe and America. Why is it difficult for Nigeria to do same? |
brain54(m): 8:00am On May 31 |
Obaaderemi2: Ghanian yam and oil are processed goods...? Dundee. You expect me to be arguing with you now. When you can't get the simple point I am making and keep quoting me out of context! 2 Likes |

Sibrah:It is a big achievement as more Ghanians will stay back in Ghana to make it grow with lesser brain drain. |
Sibrah: 8:32am On May 31 |
guobe:thats untrue. You are just assuming it. Nigerians are not running away because $1 goes for N1,700. They run away because they can earn in dollar and when converted gives them what they cannot earn within Nigeria. |
guobe: 8:32am On May 31 |
papyjaypaul:If the leaders know what they are doing they should know the current exchange rate is responsible for making things expensive in the country and something needs to be done even if it is partial redomination of the currency. |
guobe: 8:34am On May 31 |
Sibrah:Not true,if the exchange rate is 1 dollar to 10 naira ,I bet you there will be no need for N8gerians to go overseas especially if they have a good job. |

Okoroawusa: Thank you so so much. A lot of economic and historical illiterates here. If ghana's currency is doing so well, shouldn't their cost of living also be reducing? Everything you can buy in Nigeria is sold for twice or more the price in Ghana. These people just read something and the next thing is to start bashing their own country without even understanding the implications of what they read. It's terribly annoying. 2 Likes |

Okoroawusa:I have always tried to educate those around me concerning this issue but it seems they have already decided on what to believe or what not to. Just about 4 years ago when I was staying in Ghana, that was when I realised that the whole Ghana Economy is centred around Accra and it's not bigger than just Lagos economic. It's disrespectful comparing Ghana to Nigeria aside security and electricity. Then, noodle that we would buy in Nigeria for ₦400 was sold in Ghana for an equivalent of ₦1,200. If I were Tinubu, I would damn the consequences and redenominate the naira, remove just 000 and make the dollar to a naira become $1 = ₦1.60 Kobo. Make we see if these illiterate go still see something to talk about. Though, it's embarrassing and shameful that the dollar is exchanging at ₦1,600 as at today, it should have been around ₦500 at least. The CBN needs to work on this, it doesn't sounds well to the ears 2 Likes |
Sugarboyy(m): 9:24am On May 31 |
Christistruth02:Theirs is even worse because it was 4 0000 that they removed and not 3 000. Meaning Nigeria economic is still far better than theirs at $1 - ₦1,600 because If we decide to remove 3 000 now, the naira will become ₦1.60 Kobo to a dollar 2 Likes |
